This slap back is totally justified. She hit him first completely out of the blue. What happened next was his fight or flight reflex kicked in and he hit her back. Its completely natural, as soon as he was slapped that adrenalin kicked in and he did what instinct tells him to do. If you start violence expect to get a little back.
Then all those other assholes jumped in and beat him up 10 on 1. Hopefully he sued them.
