Hmm the cards seem to be very thin and flimsy, other than that it seems like a great game. But I think I am the only one in my group of friends that is interested in this type of game :-/
@thedicetower I'm not even a Star Trek fan (I side more with it's hated enemy, Star Wars) and I found this to be thoroughly awesome. Massive props for all the detail they added in this game. Could *someone* please explain why they haven't done a Star Trek video game this amazing? Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to do. Really the only thing I think this game is lacking is a secondary component that allows you to beam down to planets or onto enemy ships for some die rolling phaser combat.
This just got linked to by Penny Arcade... that's great that Tycho keeps checking out your videos Tom! Going to really get a ton of people to look at your channel!
It's a ton of fun - finally got a chance to play this game. My only complaint is that the rulebook is pretty vague. We ran into several situations in which we didn't know how to resolve some (minor) points. I'm sure there are clarifications on BGG, but otherwise, I really enjoyed it.
Order mine from a store this morning so hopefully will get this week. Though it won't be my "all time best" IF/until they release Romulans and Cardassians.
Love your reviews guys. I think that you must know that in my country (creators of Stronghold :D) your approval in board games is really highly noted. So keep on doing great reviews.
P.S.
Tom, are you losing weight? I hope it's nothing serious just healthy living.
Thanks for the great review guys, good job. Maybe this is an opportunity to finally think about a battle report of sorts? Also if the designers are viewing this, maybe you have an opportunity here to improve the quality by releasing a deluxe/limited edition version of the game as it seems a shame that component quality is a slight negative.
@ReverendGamer Descent is a better value for money, but you must remember that Star Trek Fleet Captains is a licensed game and part of the price of the game is to cover the cost of the licensing fees.
Thanks for the review guys... I saw this at GenCon, but the price point put me off even doing a demo. Now..... I'm going to have to check this out. darn it
I'm glad I subscribed. Now I get a mail every time you guys upload a video. Great review. I was wondering what do you think about Runewars. I checked and did not see a review about it.

Really wish the models were painted, but at the same time, I'm looking forward to picking up some model paint and getting down on Sunday nights haha.

7:54 - So the choice is between adding Wesley Crusher to your crew and using him as a shield? Not a very difficult choice.

@tesseraktik
haha. We might lose medical support from his mom if we use him as a shield though.

I still don't understand the $100 price point. Descent is a $100 game, and it has almost 100 miniatures, plus cardboard and cards!

Great review. Sadly, I very seldom play 2-player games, so this wouldn't be worth it for me. Looks nice, though.
bexarath 6 months ago
@bexarath they said it can be played with teams (2 vs 2)

@wr00t still just too small for my usual group, and I generally dislike team-based games.
