But be reasonable--you know perfectly well what I mean, not that water as matter is destroyed, but that it took energy treating the water for it to be potable, pumping it, etc. and it just seems a bit unnecessary. Especially because cats will drink from trickling faucets easier than when they are full-on. (I admit, it would not have been funny otherwise though).

@waitingforapril Simply because the water comes out of the faucet and down the drain does not mean the water is "wasted." Matter is not destroyed, water being no exception. The water still exists in the pipes underneath en route to the treatment facility, just as it existed before it exited the faucet.

I accept your apology and I don't know where you live but in our country (NZ) we do not filter sewage for reuse (horrors) We have such a surplus we can not use it all. So much of it just flows out to sea through rivers and we use it with gay abandon and do not even consider it as waste. It falls back as rain filtered natures way. And unfortunately we can not help the people in Africa with it.

I had a cat that would love to sit in the bathroom sink and drink. He would meow outside my bedroom door in the middle of the night until I got up and turned on the faucet. It was hard to get him out of the sink. Eventually I would close the drain so it started to fill up and he'd finally jump out. My current cat is afraid of anything that could be a possible container for water, even if there isn't any water.
