I wish someone would put up some scenes from the Met production of the opera several years ago. Florez was paired with a Russian contralto who was every bit his equal. It would be nice if he would sing it again, perhaps with DiDonato. It is certainly one of Rossini's best operas.

Simpatico il basso, ma canta Mustafà senza agilità, con vocione granitico e gusto obsoleto, davvero quasi inascoltabile. Soprattutto se affiancato a Florez per il quale, in questo repertorio, non esistono superlativi adeguati.

Florez is great here. 28 years old and simply magnificent in voice and in appearance. When you have the finest lyric tenor voice in a movie star body what more can you want?

I enjoyed this duet and I am not all that keen on JDF. I can find no fault in him but, with the notable exception of the legendary Tito Schipa, I just don't much like the tenore di grazia voice.

This is so amazing! I'm really sad there aren't a lot of complete opera recordings with Juan Diego Florez available in the US. He sings bel canto so wonderfully! I like the bass too, I've never heard of him before but he does a great job. He's not campy, and that's really nice to see!

Mark Doss is AWESOME. Why he isn't a major star is beyond me. (Not that he doesn't work in great places with great people, but he should be a *NAME*)
