  • YEAH FU MANCHU!

  • someone's in the wooooooooooooolf

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I LOST THE GUITAR I CAN'T FIND IT! :D

  • Nice bit of SRV. I mean, tonally it bears no resemblance to SRV's tone, but solid use of Pride and Joy!

  • whats the song he plays somehwere at 2:00?

  • @mitchellakan00b Queens Of the Stone Age - Someone's in the Wolf

  • Nooooooo. GC, musicians friend, sweetwater, amazon all say it's discontinued D=

  • Wow, that guitar is really versatile.

  • street fighting in the beginning

  • Someone's In The Wolf!

I love watching Andy's videos just to see what riffs he plays. Not to mention, his Someone's In The Wolf is dead on.

  • One of the best demos I've seen. Very appropriate choice of songs.

  • adam's apple by aerosmith!

  • This dude awesome! Queens Of The Stone Age, Queen and Soundgarden-riffs! Great! I think i'll buy the wooden body AMG100.

  • Too bad the lighting for this video is so crappy, I'd love to get a better look at this cool guitar, although Andy does contrast the tone options well. It appears that all the improvements Ampeg made to this model were a big hit, as the limited production run was purchased quickly.

  • someone's in the wolf! niiiice! ;D

  • I'm probably going to get one of the AMG100 models simply because they are cheaper... which one would you say would provide better sustain and all around good sound, the alder, mahogany or ash? I was interested in the ash or alder mainly just because they are different and the ash especially because it has a maple neck?

  • nice tone

  • what would you compare this to more, a les paul or a strat? and would it be good for playing hardish rock, velvet revolver type stuff ?

  • does he use a pick?

  • its one of those things i want but i will not pay for it

  • Is there a difference in this newer model than the older, original guitars?

  • @sciencekiller7689 Yeah, actually the newer ones are improved. For example, the neck bolts on the old ones were under the pickguard, now they turned them over to be adjustable from the rear. Also the Wilkinson Bridge makes a lot more sense than the rosewood piece in terms of adjustability. You can get all the information you desire if you google danarmstrong + org

I've got the newer one (like the one demo'd here but with the standard pickguard) and I love it.

  • anybody knows if this guitar is also suited for heavy music ( like metal)??

  • @saltywoody This guitar rips for Heavy Music Greg Ginn Played one in Black Flag

  • Shame this guitar doesn't have a neck pickup with all that sustain..

  • Someone's in the wolf. I dig it!

  • tone for under the bridge was horrible, but great on all the others

  • How much does it weigh?

  • @sumkindamonstr92 it suppsoed to be heavy from what I heard its made of dense plexi glass

  • Hey, guy9122. The song is from Aerosmith's third album, "Toys in the attic" and it's called "Adam's apple". Third song on the record. Check it out, it's a great song. By the way, Joe Perry uses an Ampeg Dan Armstrong in several songs, mostly the ones he plays with the slide, such as "Draw The Line" and "Let the music do the Talking".

  • damn nice playing

  • what song at 3:02 ?

  • I love mine, Bob Balch from Fu manchu Turned me on to them.

  • I saw mastodon live and I swear they were using this.

  • fu manchu :)

  • Andy, your reviews are great and your playing is even better. Thanks for all the time and money you've saved me!

  • yay pride & joy (SRV) at 4:05 :D

  • plexi guitar... i bet theres no sustain

  • ok, for one, you can hear it for yourself and two, he actually mentions how dense it is, which creates more sustain

  • are you stupid?

  • and three, i have the standard model and i can tell... there's a hell lot of sustain

  • standard? the AMG100? arent those made of wood? naturally the sustain would be better. I dont know, it just doesnt make sense to make a guitar out of this kind of material which is without a doubt a sustain killer.

  • Not true. The Plexi models are legendary sustain machines. Check your history, dudes.

  • Denser body = more sustain.

  • shouldve played some black flag

  • i can see through his guitar

  • What's the song at 1:50?

  • The song's "Someome's in the Wolf" by Queens of the Stone Age on the album "Lullabies to Paralyze". Great song and a great album too. :)

  • and he's playing it because Troy was playing one of these in the video for Sick Sick Sick off the album Era Vulgaris

  • I had one of the originals in 1969. Not nearly as refined - it had a little wood bridge and two interchangeable pickups that looked like 3 Musketeers bars. Sorry I sold it.

Ironically, my daughter's boyfriend also used one in Fu Manchu.

  • qotsa song is someones in the wolf... looks like its in open g similar to fun machine

anyone care to share what fu manchu song that was? big fan of the band, it sounds real familiar but i cant put my finger on it!

  • its eatin' dust ;) great song and bad memory

  • So how is that QOTSA song called, it sounds kick ass! Andy is god btw.

  • The single coil sounds almost like a humbucker though, it has that 'quack' to it like a Gibson normally has.

  • WHOOO Someone's in the wolf. Didn't see that one coming.

  • Hey,

    whats the song at 3:03?!

  • under the bridge RHCP

  • I never really noticed before how good of a guitar player Andy actually is. Check his right hand, never uses a pick! Hat off for you Andy. And I love the Fu Manchu there at the end... to me, nothing is more Ampeg Plexi than Fu Manchu.

  • i only thought asians spoke the way they speak but obviosly they write the same way

someone need to learn him english

  • i always wanted one but the weight makes my les paul studio feel like a cardboard guitar. great fu manchu at 4:50

  • i just got my normal non limited edition plexi and it has the same bridge as the limited???

  • great review! whats the amp?

  • under the bridge rhcp 3:50

  • those guitars are sweet, his technique is pretty perfect

  • Brilliant description.

  • anyone know how much I would get one of these for? im having trouble finding it anywhere

  • what's the song at 3:50?

  • what a job !

  • STEVIE!!

  • QOTSA! WOW!

  • I'm surprised you did not pick a Foo Fighters song.

  • not really the right sound for pride and joy

  • that was fantastic when he did QOTSA-his playing without a pick is pretty virtuoso. andy is incredibly talented. awesome.

  • he is really talented.

But calling him virtuoso because he can play hybrid?

    lol

  • That is major cool.

  • 4:02 - 4:40 BEAST

  • Someone learn this guy how to hold a pick.

  • Someone learn this guy how to use grammer.

  • Shutup, hes way better than you'll ever be

  • Whatever works for him. You should see Marty Friedman

  • wtf... andy has demoed over 200 guitars, amps, and pedals, perfectly playing at least three songs but usually more like five per video. im pretty sure that his technique is just fine tardo.

  • Someone 'learn' this guy how to write English.

Anyway, there's no "right" way to hold a pick, only a conventional way. Use whatever you're comfortable with, that's how you should play. I personally use a pick the conventional, normal way, whereas my guitar instructor holds it between his fingertips much like this guy here, Andy.

  • If you look well he doesn't use a pick

  • Take a care about yourself, asshole.

  • He.Does not.Have.A Pick.Jackass.

  • someone learn you good grammar!

  • "learn this guy"?? don't you mean "teach this guy"? Illiterate piece of shit

  • i think it was a joke.. good job picking up on that, just a tad subtle :)

  • It doesn't even matter how Andy holds his pick. That man is a genious and his playing style is brilliant no matter how he does it! Fingerstyle or picking!

  • @AlexGuitar1987 His picking is fuckin terrible and he's not very good

  • @TheMullerFan He seems good enough to me! And I'm playing 15 years. Perhaps your being a bit pedantic?

  • @TheMullerFan your pretty picky about your Ampeg players.

  • @TheMullerFan idiot...

  • Someone learn this guy how to grow a prick.

  • Hum sorry guy but BB King holds it the same way

  • see-through style sucks!!!

  • don't buy it then!

  • Someone's In the Wolf - love that fuzzy QOTSA tone with the flick of a switch!!!

  • Wow! a see through guitar. Sounds nice when you play it. I have Ludwig Vista Lite drums that are plastic. The sound is better. Thank you for showing the Ampeg.

  • under the bridge... nice xD

  • lol andy's right hand technique is sick

  • Queens of the Stone Age!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • Nice QotSA at 1:50! Nice work Andy. Can't say the guitar is my cup o' tea, though.

  • that thing is ugly, kill it

  • Who cares? It sounds nice.

  • Impressive! It seems quite versatile!

  • i ordered one of these a week ago:P still waiting for it to come:D

  • not the LTD, sorry. the basic plexi

  • that half cocked wah setting is what zappa used to get put into some of his guitars as a custom mod :D awesome, nice midrangey tone

  • Impeccable taste in amplifiers - I own both them both. :)

  • I want it :O

  • Yes, QOTSA!

  • The single-coil mode has a bit more of a tele-twang rather than a stratty tone. Still a brilliant sounding guitar.

  • This guitar is insane!!

  • i want that

  • i wannit. now if only i had 2 and a half grand.

  • the last riff that was the blues was sick. could you give me a hint maybe where i could find the notes or tabs? it doesnt matter i read both

  • Pride and joy by Stevie Ray Vaughn. You should be able to find a book at Guitar Center or online somewhere.

  • Dude, it sounded like abit of improv over 'pride and joy' by stevie ray vaughan. Check it out.

  • awesome qotsa andy. as always!

  • Really nice looking guitar !

  • Pride and Joy FTW!!

Did not see that one coming. Great demo as always.

  • has anyone ever played one? are the bodies very resonant? sounds pretty good from here

  • not resonant at all. Acoustically, they are very dead sounding. But plugged in i do think they sound pretty dang good. And really, thats all that matters...

  • the only thing I don't love about all your demos is that you never post the price of anything. But thats a minor concern.

  • that's not hard to look up...

  • They are around 2,600.00 USD on Amazon. A whole hell of a lot less than I would have thought.

  • The price is on the site, if they sell it, which they normally do.

  • They want you to visit the website so they can get money for ads. Also, while your there you might see something else you like and buy it.

  • dave grohl guitar?

  • I think I've seen him use a guitar like this before, but I have no idea if it's the same thing.

  • I think you're talking about the red model, that has a mahogany body.

  • Nah, I'm thinking of the one from the music video for "All My Life"

It looks like the same guitar as this one.

  • uses the dan armstrong guitar for the "times like these" video as well.

  • yeah grohl uses it

  • USED it for the One By One Tour. Now he's got a signature Gibson that I've never seen him without (unless of course he's playing his Taylor acoustic).

  • Looks good.

  • gotta love those acrylic guitars

  • sweetness guitar

  • if i could i'd buy that guitar

  • I really wish I could afford the limited edition... sounds great

  • I would put lights in it LOL!

  • nice guitar lol

  • too bad it only has a bridge slot- imagine if you could switch from H-S to S-H

  • want. bad.

  • Thats bad ass

  • nice
