Your lucky you got a nicely preserved rat. My group and I had to open up two rats before finding one that wasn't decomposing as much on the inside. It was smelly and nasty but interesting at the same time. :)

@KvnSix this helped me pass my biology test in the HUMAN biology section too. As many mammals are very similar. In a way, yes. learning how to cut open a rat. but also about all mammals. You now have multiple people telling you to chill so please have some self dignity and stop complaining. if you would like to start a petition to stop students from learning, be my guest. ill keep cutting these fuckers open till i know exactly how they work.

i don't disagree with animal dissections because it is a tool of learning, but the way you dissecting that poor creature left a really bad taste in my mouth. i did rat dissections (as well as other animals) in college, but we did them professionally, they were brought in by a company the school ordered them from, the animals were preserved with formaldehyde

we had proper dissection kits, we didn't use household items/tools, and we had a proper dissection board

they were just playing around with the body, it was "gross" (btw, that is how you spell it!)

While most of what you said is true in your three comments, I don't agree about this: specimens used for dissections are usually fresh when it concerns small animals - frogs or rats for example. Especially when you keep in mind that here are usually nearly a thousand med students in their first year who do that kind of dissections. =)
