Very nice job but why didn't you fly it? I can understand not just letting it go but at least let it go with a string attached and then pull it back in. Nice, but very anticlimactic.
Come on, let 'er loose! Anything bigger than that and I would buy my polyethylene factory direct in rolls (actually I think I would do that anyway, it's impossible to find thin enough trash bags).
In a clean summer day in tropical areas, a square meter of area irradiated by have 1000W of energy. Sun have great power. If technology could allow to collect it with efficiency...
Thats nealy identical to the 50 bagger I recently built. I got up early for the calm air. I let it up 250 feet and back down about 3 times. I was bringind it down to take it in for the last time of the day and the string snapped. I learned from that. next time I'm using a thin light poly rope. I'v got 300 feet of it ready and am now building a 100 bagger. Keep your eye peeled for it on youtube. Nice work on your own there. I'm using a good size fan for inflation with a closable flap.
Well done balloon - so many trash bags can take a lot of work to put together. It would make a nice R/C solar balloon if you can get a few servos, receiver, battery pack, and maybe an ESC and motor to power a fan as well.
I plan on getting a old camera that can contentiously record for a while and attaching it to the balloon. Although, once its down I dont see how it would be able to go back down with just a few servos. I plan making more videos of this too.
If you get a servo that has enough torque, you can make a sort of extended arm about 1-2 feet long so the servo can pull down a string attached to a vent at the top of the balloon. Basically you could use the controller to pull the servo all the way down which would move the arm down and pull the vent open to release air. After closing the vent, the balloon will slowly re-inflate but a motorized fan would make it go faster.
oh, yeah. i was going to add a vent on it, but I decided that the more simple it was the less that it could go wrong. To deflate i have the all three corners tied down with weights and the mouth of the balloon is on the top. The air naturally goes out. Although it takes about 25 minutes to deflate....
If you do take the time to add a vent that is sealed with velcro, it will be worth it. It's much faster to deflate when you pull a cord and the balloon starts to collapse right away. The bigger the vent, the faster you can deflate it.
I made one exactly whoch its 8*8 tetroon it was the same size exactly

How many mils are the bags? I've got 240 39 gallon trash bags yearning to lift me up, but they're .90 mils. Too much? I don't know.

You can bet that would set off some alarmed reactions at any nearby radar stations if launched.
