And Ong Bak 2 jumped to the top of my favorite martial arts movies. Just an amazing movie that seperates itself from the rest. Ong Bak 3 was a let down after all that action. but thats what happens when you go from tony jaa directing to someone else.
Tony Jaa hands down. Tony Jaa's fighting style is to devestate opponents with elbows, knees, and bone breaking. His to me comes off as a more realistic fighting style.Whereas other martial arts movies pertain to the hollywood style martial arts with flashy but not as effective strikes. Tony Jaa does use his flying knee a decent amount. but at least people can agree that it's pretty effective
im a fan of tony because because his fight more realistically are than donnie!!! donnie's fights are unrealistic!!! In his fight he can fly sometimes: D
Jet Li is past his peak. i mean he was great around the 03/04/05 but he put on some weight on expendables lol. Seen donnie in WUXIA? hes getting better and better
PLEASE can someone tell me what movie that donnie yen was in, I love watching fighting movies like this, and I haven't seen that movie with donnie yen in it. Please someone, can they give me a title :)
@JERAESKWAD who? donnie what??? never heard of him.. he isnt a bruce lee of any generation. there is no one to match up. not to mention that Jet li puts him to shame.
@RX7DVL Dude...Jetli is just an action star, no real shit. He hasnt made anything good since fearless and his name is just someone who can fight in movies..his life as an action star is dead..Look up IP man.. dude its donnie yen and its insane
Regardless of real world fighting abilities between these two awesome guys. I will always prefer Donnie Yen above all other martial artist actors. He puts these little flourishes on his fighting styes. Donnie just has this SWAGGER about him.. Like a little shuffle in his step or winding up a punch. I don't really know how to explain it, but I know people know what I mean.... :)
If anyone doubts what Im say all you have to do is watch the behind the scenes of both that is if you own the real Chinese and Thai copy's this is not a debate its a fact. And as far as speed goes lets just Wait for Jaa's HK film with Sammo Hung comes out to judge that. It how the films are shot HK style or Thai style both are great and fun to watch. no one is better or worse just different.
@RickSomchaiAgain I like HK style better simply for the fact that they've done this for so much longer n have pretty much perfected their art at this point. I've watched Ong Bak 1,2 n 3(really wish I hadnt seen 3) and already know they take more beatings in the making of films. HK cinema doesnt concentrate ONLY on power they're much more versatile than Thai cinema. Jus look at the difference between IP man n Flahpoint. Two very badass movies yet very different choreography.
@kottonmouth1200 Agreed Thailand only mainly has one style because its based on Muay Thai witch in real life is Ring fighting as Im sure you already know. Tony Has mixed Martial arts skills but as you can see even from his Kung Fu in OB2 was rooted still by Muay Thai OB3 yes WTF=\ Would be nice to see him Move on to better things and different choreography like Yen Woo Ping or Sammo Tony is the only one true guy who can hold that style choreography is an issue for him.
@kottonmouth1200 But as far as speeds I seen that dude hall ass Thailand want him to remain as is because he represents there nation, Am waiting to see him In HK with Sammo i think the Thai fighting will still be there but the choreography will be changed up for sure thats why dude is pushing so hard to get there, he wants change and thats good but I still would enjoy a real kick or two if you get my drift.
@RickSomchaiAgain Thats exactly what Jaa needs to expand his credibility as a martial arts superstar... Collaboration. He's got more potential than alot of martial artist to be a pioneer in the genre even up there with Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee. Same goes for Yen. I cant wait to see what Jaa has in store for Tom Yum Goong 2 especially since it's supposed to feature Jeeja.
@kottonmouth1200 TYG2 should be good for sure and the first 3D fight film i ever seen so yeah more then likely better the the first. Jeeja is the same style as him with some hard hits too and the acrobatics together should be second to none.
I hate to say this but Donnie is not better they are not even the same styles.. Jaa is a stunt man as well and they shoot the films different in HK then they do in Thai. Thai films are about power and real hits, HK films are about speed and wirer fu.Jaa is not slow he Just hits with power with more power is lack in speed. Over the top speed punches are like slaps. go to your friend and punch him super fast then punch him as hard as you can see what happens. Both are great in their own way
@RickSomchaiAgain Watch Flash Point if you dont think HK doesn't care about real hits. I love Jaa as a stuntman and martial artist but he hasnt done anything to prove he's not slow. Speed is far more reliable than power and the amount of damage behind a fast punch always depends on the one throwing it. Ever heard of the one-inch punch? Punching someone as hard as you can will only prove it's easier to throw a hay maker instead of an accurate damaging blow. Power<speed = Jaa<yen
@kottonmouth1200 I own Flashpoint and yes at some parts Yen does use power but nothing as hard hitting as Jaa sorry dude watch Ong Bak again. compare the camera angles from that to Flashpoint. its all about how the film is shot. They use steel vest and plats with padding over them because the hits are real unlike in HK films. Almost every hit from Jaa is full force from his shin kicks and knees to even punches and kicks to the body and face. Watch the behind the scenes.
If there would be one it would finish in seconds, like tiger grip to nech with ripping it .Dnt forget that to sport m.a are far away from combat killing m.a.
Well if keyboard warriors think that parkour gives any advantage this means movies have brainwashed all brains to current generation.
Parkour itself may not give many advantages in combat, though someone who practices parkour is more likely to be physically fit and knows how to handle one's body.
That, I believe, is quite advantageous in a fight.
and yes in a fight donnie wins hands down, tony knows muy thai and knows karate and knows wun ju (what bruce learned) and knows martial arts and knows brazilian jujitsu BJJ and he knows wrestling. where tony only knows muy thai. Donnie yen wins for sure
@LLNagashi Tony Jaa's abilities in parkour combine well with his muay thai let alone his physical body is alot tougher and probably much faster and stronger than donnie yens. Practicing lots of martial arts doesnt make you amazing that's for sure.
@MrJackanddena You shouldnt speak on someone you havent done your research on. Donnie Yen has been around martial arts ever since he was a child. His mother was martial arts grandmaster and he experimented with different types of fighting styles going into his teens. The guy is pushing 50 and hes in the best shape of his life. BTW Tony Jaa only recently became a monk dude...
@kottonmouth1200 You are right that donnie yen is a great martial artist. And has been practicing martial arts since he was a child. He's one of the greatest martial artists i've ever seen on camera no doubt about that. But tony jaa looks to be in better shape than donnie yen ever was, and regardless of how long he was a monk he is still a monk lol. And those asian monks tend to have incredible endurance for human beings.
@MrJackanddena Yen has 1 important factor if not the most important factor in martial arts that Jaa lacks n thats speed. He has the speed that mimics Bruce Lees a bold statement I know but also a true one. Tony Jaa is a better stuntman but there's no way in hell hes a better fighter. Donnie Yen not only knows muay thai but has studied MMA extensively if you dont believe me watch Flash Point or Killzone. I used to think Jaa was closest thing to a next Bruce Lee then I saw IP man.
@MrJackanddena donnie yen has been probably in to fighitng before tony and has research its orgin aroudn the world and learn nto only one but multiple styles of fighting. Tony also once said his two orle models were tony and jackie chan i can give u the link u want me to prove it tooo
@utubevideniskey ur are wrong..ip man 1&2 are the best..cause Donnie yen did the best acting ever... no one have done better then him... when dennis came in ip man 3... the whole movie was like "something amazing missing" watch again all 3 moves... u will see when donniie fight with wing chun , there is a calm on his face and he smiles.. while dennis fights with all his energy and with no calmness
@TheBookr - Dude i said no donnie yen in ip man 3 so how am i wrong? The first two are much better i agree, but the third wasnt shit. I personally still enjoyed it and thats the point i made
I've watched alot of Martial Arts movies in my lifetime, but I really enjoyed SPL...I wasn't too Martial Artsy and it wasn't too Cops and Robbers...Just a good balance with a good ending...Protector was very good too..But is it true that Tony Jaa isn't doing any more movies? How long is it gonna be before another physically capable star like him comes along?
It's hard to pick but I choose Donnie. One of the main reason is because he does many different types of fighting styles, instead of only Muay Thai as Tony Jaa does (not that I have anything against it). Donnie doing all these more street like fights, and then you have Ip Man which was the movie that won him even more fame than before, and he does 14 blades later and etc. But still you can't compare these two very easily.
@newjeruselem omg just cause he taught bruce lee doenst make him a super man, bruce lee is the super man not the IP man gosh!! but donie did a good job in the film
sorry to rain on your parade guys.. the greatest fight scene is Jackie Chan V Benny the Jet in Meals on Wheels and we have to go old skool for one of Donnie Yens' end fight scene as in Drunken Tai Chi......
Tony jaa movies are too ol skool, they bore me,too predictable, i feel like im watching a tekkin 3 old skool game, i think i still know some of those moves. and the fighting seems so predictable like the guy hes fighting is already planning to get hit or flipped. i understand his power and ability, but no.
Donnie Yen movies on the other hand seem to be getting sicker and sicker,
ehhh Jaa is another style of film making then Yen, Yen is about speed Jaa is about contact, so to say one is better then the other is just stupid, fucking kids on here dont know shit about Martial arts or film making and run their mouths like fools it all depends of the choreography not just the man doing the fight scenes. you fucking kids should know that come on really???
@LamboSpyder99 Did u really just call.. Donnie yen fake.. No disrespect to tony jaa but the things that donnie would do to tony would be hard to watch... Maybe you should look up donnie b4 u talk about him... Hes been training in multiple martial arts since he was 4. /watch?v=LH1JCUiER5s
@DooKNo1 yeah, ip man was good, its just lost bladesman and wuxia which i really didnt like, even when the fights were long, they just didnt look too good, for me ;)
@DooKNo1 i dont mean the strong enemies have to be the most popular asian actors, i just miss the nice, long fights strong hero vs strong enemie ;)..but some of your actors here are already well known in asia, especially Fan Siu-Wong, Andy On, Kara Hui etc...i like them all ;) its just when it comes to martial arts movies i await great fights when donnie yen plays in the movie.
@DooKNo1 i dont mean brutality, i meant choreography for the fights...the fights have to look nice, not like ong bak etc. where its really brutal and in my opinion not really good fights. the action has to be good like tiger cage 2, flash point etc. im talking about fights with strong enemies, not how he beats up some weak guys, the long fights with strong enemies, they have to be good and in the newer movies i miss them a bit.
@DooKNo1 legend of the fist had great fights, but lost bladesman was a bit weaker and wuxia was a real disappointment, when you think there played takeshi kaneshiro too, another damn good fighter...lets see his next movies vanguard and monkey king. monkey king gets my hopes really up when you see so much good actors in one movie, i really hope that one will be very good.
@DooKNo1 donnie yen is a master of martial arts and thats what i want to see from him. yes story, action etc are nice too but its his fighting style what makes him special and no one else has that style. jackie chan can be funny, but his fights are legendary too, jet li fights like he learned, wu jing too but he has a little bit of his own style too and donnie yen has a whole new fighting style which you will never see again, thats why i like him the most.
spl is a nice movie, pretty good fights too, but for donnie yen this was maybe one of the weakest fights ever, sadly they could have made far better when you think that wu jing played there too and hes also one of the best martial arts actors...but donnie yens best movies are much older...sad that his newer movies are always getting worse, 14 blades, lost bladesman and especially wu xia are really disappointment..just hoping that the coming movies will get better like the old ones.
@newjeruselem IP man 1 and 2 were great movies and his previous films too. But i became a fan of Donnie when i saw SPL. It just blew me away and i had to see all his film. Trust me! even if people haven't seen some of his other films, they will become a fan after watching SPL.
@killgee54 Their both two of my favs no way i could choose. I'd also agree on most your points and the fact that most people didn't know about him till ip man, i saw him first in SPL/Killzone, which i love. I'm currently looking for "In the Line of Duty" and "Drunken Tai-Chi" from when he was younger but i've seen most his other stuff. Doesn't he have a new movie about a one armed swordsman coming out? Hope it doesn't blow. And Tony jaa kinda fell off the boat with "Ong Bak 3" idk wth he did
@newjeruselem You obviously don't know anything about Donnie Yen. Donnie Yen's worst movie? For starters these Donnie scenes come from two different films, SPL and Flash Point. Flash Point has one of the best martial arts sequences ever performed between Donnie and Colin Chou and that weapons sequence between Donnie and Wu Jing is legendary.
Maybe if Ip Man wasn't the first time you'd seen Donnie Yen you would know this.
@RiverCityKunio People has different taste but i agree with you on Flash Point. It does has one of the best (probably the greatest) fighting scene ever...........
I think they both are awesome but i belive donie yen it's mre realistic and only when he get mad he fitgth brutality broking bones in arms and legs and
tony it's a great figther but he is more acrobatic and brutal in his combats.
so my vote is for donnie but tony it's a great figther too
@newjeruselem Just to clarify here, in Legend of the Fist he play Chen Zhen, a character played by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury. He doesn't play Ip Man in that, I assume you know this but for people who do not, I just wanted to make it clear.
@holywater16 the reason i chose these two films for donnie was because of the era. tiger cage is one of my favorites too but the film was made in 1988.
Tony Jaa would kick Donnie so hard with his Elephant kick to the face Yen's teeth would end up back in the Ming Dynasty... Love them both I do but Jaa is a beast!!!
@tatkonerez It's called a suplex, a very effective wrestling move. You should watch UFC 2, Dan Severn uses it and destroys a guy in one of his first fights.
this movie of donnie yeng. i've never seen it before and i probaly dont want to, seeing these bits and parts already tells it sucks, his best movie is ipman for sure..
@0148251rs Actually, the guy who directed both Ip Man movies directed both movies shown here with Donnie Yen. SPL, the one where he's fighting Yu Jing at night in the alley, is actually a rather excellent movie. Like Ip Man, it has great cinematography, acting and characters (although it's not as classy as Ip Man). The other is enjoyable but certainly much more standard fare, and not at all in the same league as Ip Man.
Well the way i see it they both excell in there own repects. Tony jaa is a great fighter and stuntman while donnie yen is more realistic and brutal in -his fights.
Tony Jaa is a raw powerhouse! He meditates and trains the freaking forest in real life! Donnie Yen is good but in a real fight Tony Jaa would destroy him, the only person i can see giving Tony trouble is Bruce Lee, but he's dead :/
No disrespect meant to Tony Jaa, but his fighting is too theatrical. He flips unnecessarily and dramatizes certain parts too much. You can see the choreography in the "epic" fights. He's looking at the ground as he blocks every attack (including the one low behind him) without a break in rhythm. Donnie Yen's isn't always believable, but his moments where all I can think are "Yeah like that'll happen" are fewer and farther between. They are both great martial artists, but Donnie Yen comes in 1st
Tony Jaa is forever best

ผมคิดว่า ถ้าจะจับคู่ให้ฮีโร่แห่งตำนานเหล่านี้สู้กัน ถ้าพิจารณาเรื่องสไตล์การต่อสู้ ผมคิดว่า
1.tony jaa vs jackie chan
2.donnie yen vs wu jing (or jet li) น่าจะเหมาะกว่าน้าา เพราะทุกคู่ล้วนมีสไตล์การต่อสู้ที่คล้ายกัน
FireRockzy 1 month ago

@utubevideniskey ur are wrong..ip man 1&2 are the best..cause Donnie yen did the best acting ever... no one have done better then him... when dennis came in ip man 3... the whole movie was like "something amazing missing" watch again all 3 moves... u will see when donniie fight with wing chun , there is a calm on his face and he smiles.. while dennis fights with all his energy and with no calmness
TheBookr 2 months ago
@TheBookr - Dude i said no donnie yen in ip man 3 so how am i wrong? The first two are much better i agree, but the third wasnt shit. I personally still enjoyed it and thats the point i made

I've watched alot of Martial Arts movies in my lifetime, but I really enjoyed SPL...I wasn't too Martial Artsy and it wasn't too Cops and Robbers...Just a good balance with a good ending...Protector was very good too..But is it true that Tony Jaa isn't doing any more movies? How long is it gonna be before another physically capable star like him comes along?

My money is on Donnie. I like Tony and im sure he could kick my ass, but his style seems more like he learned it solely for movies.
xxRandomnameguyxx 3 months ago
It's hard to pick but I choose Donnie. One of the main reason is because he does many different types of fighting styles, instead of only Muay Thai as Tony Jaa does (not that I have anything against it). Donnie doing all these more street like fights, and then you have Ip Man which was the movie that won him even more fame than before, and he does 14 blades later and etc. But still you can't compare these two very easily.

i wouldnt fight either guy personally.
but if i had to give honest opinion,
Tony jaa movies are too ol skool, they bore me,too predictable, i feel like im watching a tekkin 3 old skool game, i think i still know some of those moves. and the fighting seems so predictable like the guy hes fighting is already planning to get hit or flipped. i understand his power and ability, but no.
Donnie Yen movies on the other hand seem to be getting sicker and sicker,
theres some serious shit hes doing, :0#
damalready 4 months ago
ehhh Jaa is another style of film making then Yen, Yen is about speed Jaa is about contact, so to say one is better then the other is just stupid, fucking kids on here dont know shit about Martial arts or film making and run their mouths like fools it all depends of the choreography not just the man doing the fight scenes. you fucking kids should know that come on really???

@DooKNo1 yeah, ip man was good, its just lost bladesman and wuxia which i really didnt like, even when the fights were long, they just didnt look too good, for me ;)
Soru1984 4 months ago
@DooKNo1 i dont mean the strong enemies have to be the most popular asian actors, i just miss the nice, long fights strong hero vs strong enemie ;)..but some of your actors here are already well known in asia, especially Fan Siu-Wong, Andy On, Kara Hui etc...i like them all ;) its just when it comes to martial arts movies i await great fights when donnie yen plays in the movie.
Soru1984 4 months ago
@DooKNo1 i dont mean brutality, i meant choreography for the fights...the fights have to look nice, not like ong bak etc. where its really brutal and in my opinion not really good fights. the action has to be good like tiger cage 2, flash point etc. im talking about fights with strong enemies, not how he beats up some weak guys, the long fights with strong enemies, they have to be good and in the newer movies i miss them a bit.
Soru1984 4 months ago
@DooKNo1 legend of the fist had great fights, but lost bladesman was a bit weaker and wuxia was a real disappointment, when you think there played takeshi kaneshiro too, another damn good fighter...lets see his next movies vanguard and monkey king. monkey king gets my hopes really up when you see so much good actors in one movie, i really hope that one will be very good.
Soru1984 4 months ago
@DooKNo1 donnie yen is a master of martial arts and thats what i want to see from him. yes story, action etc are nice too but its his fighting style what makes him special and no one else has that style. jackie chan can be funny, but his fights are legendary too, jet li fights like he learned, wu jing too but he has a little bit of his own style too and donnie yen has a whole new fighting style which you will never see again, thats why i like him the most.
Soru1984 4 months ago
heheheheh .........you forgot to include PACMAN in the game.........I think PACMAN

kong2164 5 months ago
spl is a nice movie, pretty good fights too, but for donnie yen this was maybe one of the weakest fights ever, sadly they could have made far better when you think that wu jing played there too and hes also one of the best martial arts actors...but donnie yens best movies are much older...sad that his newer movies are always getting worse, 14 blades, lost bladesman and especially wu xia are really disappointment..just hoping that the coming movies will get better like the old ones.
Soru1984 5 months ago
@newjeruselem and Flash point has the most realistic fight scene ive ever seen in a movie. the end fight between him and Collin Chou was epic as fuck

xt3nd3dclipz 5 months ago
@newjeruselem IP man 1 and 2 were great movies and his previous films too. But i became a fan of Donnie when i saw SPL. It just blew me away and i had to see all his film. Trust me! even if people haven't seen some of his other films, they will become a fan after watching SPL.
killgee54 5 months ago
@killgee54 Their both two of my favs no way i could choose. I'd also agree on most your points and the fact that most people didn't know about him till ip man, i saw him first in SPL/Killzone, which i love. I'm currently looking for "In the Line of Duty" and "Drunken Tai-Chi" from when he was younger but i've seen most his other stuff. Doesn't he have a new movie about a one armed swordsman coming out? Hope it doesn't blow. And Tony jaa kinda fell off the boat with "Ong Bak 3" idk wth he did
GoukisRage 4 months ago
@newjeruselem You obviously don't know anything about Donnie Yen. Donnie Yen's worst movie? For starters these Donnie scenes come from two different films, SPL and Flash Point. Flash Point has one of the best martial arts sequences ever performed between Donnie and Colin Chou and that weapons sequence between Donnie and Wu Jing is legendary.
Maybe if Ip Man wasn't the first time you'd seen Donnie Yen you would know this.
RiverCityKunio 5 months ago 7
@RiverCityKunio People has different taste but i agree with you on Flash Point. It does has one of the best (probably the greatest) fighting scene ever...........
killgee54 5 months ago 7
@RiverCityKunio Donnie Yen is very cool :D
SuperGootman 2 months ago
I think they both are awesome but i belive donie yen it's mre realistic and only when he get mad he fitgth brutality broking bones in arms and legs and
tony it's a great figther but he is more acrobatic and brutal in his combats.
so my vote is for donnie but tony it's a great figther too
fullrocker16 5 months ago
@newjeruselem Just to clarify here, in Legend of the Fist he play Chen Zhen, a character played by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury. He doesn't play Ip Man in that, I assume you know this but for people who do not, I just wanted to make it clear.
zSeraphim 5 months ago
I can't believe this guy didn't choose "Tiger Cage" (Part 1 or 2) for Donnie Yen. He had one of the best fight scenes in those.
holywater16 5 months ago
@holywater16 the reason i chose these two films for donnie was because of the era. tiger cage is one of my favorites too but the film was made in 1988.

Tony Jaa would kick Donnie so hard with his Elephant kick to the face Yen's teeth would end up back in the Ming Dynasty... Love them both I do but Jaa is a beast!!!

@tatkonerez LOL!!! I get it, like Zangief in Street Fighter 4!

0148251rs 5 months ago
@0148251rs Actually, the guy who directed both Ip Man movies directed both movies shown here with Donnie Yen. SPL, the one where he's fighting Yu Jing at night in the alley, is actually a rather excellent movie. Like Ip Man, it has great cinematography, acting and characters (although it's not as classy as Ip Man). The other is enjoyable but certainly much more standard fare, and not at all in the same league as Ip Man.

Well the way i see it they both excell in there own repects. Tony jaa is a great fighter and stuntman while donnie yen is more realistic and brutal in -his fights.
godfist1 5 months ago 3
Tony Jaa is a raw powerhouse! He meditates and trains the freaking forest in real life! Donnie Yen is good but in a real fight Tony Jaa would destroy him, the only person i can see giving Tony trouble is Bruce Lee, but he's dead :/
TheValiantsoul 5 months ago
Donnie Yen...But I do like Tony Jaa. Both men are excellent. It's just that Donnie has been at it for a long rime and has the greater experience.
AmericanCryer 5 months ago
donnie yen all the way
BLAHBLAHBLAH0726 5 months ago
No disrespect meant to Tony Jaa, but his fighting is too theatrical. He flips unnecessarily and dramatizes certain parts too much. You can see the choreography in the "epic" fights. He's looking at the ground as he blocks every attack (including the one low behind him) without a break in rhythm. Donnie Yen's isn't always believable, but his moments where all I can think are "Yeah like that'll happen" are fewer and farther between. They are both great martial artists, but Donnie Yen comes in 1st
