Look, that was the first song we learned. You know, when trumpet players could barely hit a middle C. We never EVER played that in concert it has no musical use as a concert piece. Great for tone work though. Of course, this is coming from a 4 year trumpeter who can hit high Cs and up. Keep practicing kids, wear your seat belt, and drink milk.

I would imagine that these are BEGINNERS....as a band director I hope that these students do not see your comments and discourage them from continuing. Playing an instrument well take time and practice with no instant gratification or 50,000 bonus points and flashing lights because you played a note perfectly. I would to see you try to do that. You maybe able too, but that does not give you the right to comment so harshly on beginners.

These students are obviously first-timers, or, like you said, have no respect for music. If a school district only has 1 band director for the entire district (like many do in small towns), a 5th grade band will likely sound this bad at their first concert, because the band director has to teach ALL instruments at the SAME TIME instead of having a "Clarinet class" or a "Trumpet class" like they have in many larger suburban or city schools. The school just doesn't have the resources to provide individualized classes that allow the band to learn at a faster pace.

@takigan Size of district doesn't matter. In florida your county is the school district. Massive school district with hundredths of schools. The band class size are huge and only one teacher. High schools are in even wost shape. 300Pice bands with one director.

IF the teacher was lucky they had alums that would return to help out but now with all the school crime Most alums would get arested if they go any where near a school with out going through red tape.

They're a beginning band, it's normal for them to sound like that. I was in beginning band last year, then joined the marching band (high school marching band as a 7th grader isn't easy) and we played malaguena. That crap was hard, it was barely dumbed down from college level. I beasted it though.
