  • Never eat while you are thinking. Eating food causes a lot of food to gather around the stomach - you need it in the brain. Sherlock Holmes never ate while pondering :)

  • Your thinking seams so simple, I don't even know how i'm thinking, It just pops into my head in half done quasi-not quite working formish stuff.

  • rofl "am gonna go dig some dirt" :-DD

  • why does he wear chain-mail?

  • @dared3vil2k9 why not?

  • Man, if the game show "Junkyard Wars"/"Scrapheap Challenge" was still running, you'd be the undisputed king of it.

  • whats up with the chains around your arms?

  • its amazing to see how your thought process works. Very cool.

  • I loved how you walked us through your brain process! haha that would be a fun program to see on a computer. Probably not as fast as you can think though. :P

  • I'm really sorry, but even when you think really hard for hours, the number of calories your brain uses is ridiculously low. especially if you compare to how much calories you burn just breathing and keeping yourself warm trough a day.

  • @julmichdid The brain uses approximately 80% of your body's gross glucose production.

  • @Radishmantis

Which orifice did you pull that number from? According to wikipedia the brain pulls 25% of glucose consumption.

  • @G1ad3r

That is more like it. Also remember that the brain only uses glucose while most of our cell can breakdown different carbohydrate and fats to produce energy. That is why the brain takes 25% of the glucose but only 19% of the calories.

  • @Radishmantis

Wrong. Go on wiki and search for metabolic rate and scroll down to the biochemistry section. On the right is a table of energy expenditure for basal metabolism. Brain is about 19%. And doesn't really increase if you spend your day making very cognitive tasks. The only way you can safely (I am excluding drugs) increase the number of calorie you burn is with physical activity.

  • Ya, I've decided that these videos are awesome.

  • so i really hope for your sake that you read these comments on your older videos, and learn things like aluminum casting in foundries that would make robot building 100,000 times easier =P

  • SO ANYWAY

heres what i mean by a Homemade Foundry:

find some sort of a steel or iron container, like the bottom half of a cylindrical water heater, line it with a mixture of cement, sand, perlite (a very cheap/common plant fertilizer thing that happens to be really really heat resistant), and any clay (preferably 'fireclay'), and then have an air intake source in the bottom, im so bad at explaining this, and then weld together a cylindrical iron 'crucible' that will hold the molten aluminum

  • aw man, if only i saw this video when it first 'came out on youtube'!!!

i'd be able to comment with genius advice, and you would read my comment, and be like "damn that confedswede dude has some damn good ideas"

well, even though im a bit late on this one, here's my genius advice:

    BUILD A HOMEMADE FOUNDRY

this is quite literally a 'magic machine that can make any shape of metal you want'

darn my comment is too long, ill have to go on into another one...

  • I make cartoons in my mind of what I am wanting it to do. Kinda like a cad program.

  • Who welded that mess?

  • Are you on the grid to operate your saw and such?

  • It sounds like you've hit on this already but just in case; You should preheat aluminum before welding and you'll get much better welds, So get out your torch (I assume you have a torch) and preheat the aluminum (making sure the joints are cleaned well with a wire brush first) then weld. I wish I wish I had your time and energy,

  • Clearly he is running a genetic algorithm in his brain...

  • your a real kid at heart.

  • it reminds me of that robot off of Wild wild west....with will smith!

  • Hey Jaime, great video, one of my favourites so far - I really enjoyed the insight into your mental processes. I think they're as fascinating as the idea of the robot, or watching it being built! The trumpet blaster improv was also great video. Keep it up bro!

  • thanks! heh heh. ...and I thought I was just being stupid playing robot parts like a trumpet. :-P

  • CAD >> imagination

    inch = 2.54 cm

yea I know, I mess with you a lot =P

  • NO! Imagination >>>infinity>>>CAD

    There!

and yes... i know how to convert inches to metric, but its annoying to have to do it while my brains are busy doing more important stuff!

  • Man... if I had a nickel for everytime time I've been in that exact situation...

On the welding... You can increase the heat by turning the wire speed down really low. It burns up welding tips faster, but can allow you to weld thicker metal. Also, you can grab a MAP gas torch from HomeDepot and preheat the metal. That helps a lot too.

What kind of blade are you using to cut that aluminum with?

All in all, awsome work! I wish I had a place like yours so that I could build my mad science!

  • Ya, I've been thinking about using a torch to heat up the metal first.... but I have enough things to worry about. I'm just pooling it. :-P I have been turning down the wire speed. ....but like you say, burns tips so I try not to do it too much.

You should get a place for mad scientist stuff! just buy some land, and build a building. :-P heh heh. ...piece of cake, right? err....

  • I wish it was that simple. Everyplace that I have looked has lots of rules about what you can and can not do. Also, all of the property that I have found so far is rediculously expensive.

I'm currently on the lookout for some cheap (useless to the average person) property out in the middle of nowhere so that I can start my seceret Madscience Facility :-P

  • Oh ya... you just have to look in the right place. Like.... in the mountains somewhere.... or out in the midwest desert.... New Brunswick old mining areas.... places like that.

  • Right, makes sense!

Jamie - I can do some CAD-Work for you if you like. Let me know.

  • ya... this thing is WAY beyond CAD. ha ha. Its like a living amorphous creature. So many things are eyeballed, that it only fits together one way.

  • isn't there a CAD system somewhere in the process? Maybe there should be if there isn't already.

  • nope. takes too long. My brain does it way faster, and does way more things.

  • If you want help just let me know Im working on an exo armor so I may have some ideas that would help you with your robot.

  • oh, sweet! Do you have any video of it on here!? I wanna see!

I have designs for an exo suit too. :-)

  • haha not to be too obtrusive here but ya, i actually started building one too, but couldnt afford to finish :( it was lame tho :-]

  • how close are you to a working leg? or some other major component/ test thing

  • err.... really close. ...but I need more ball bearings of a certain size! argh! Stupid 3/4 inch. :-P

  • pretty close.

  • Haha your thought process is pretty much exactly like mine =) Glad to see your getting back into the swing of things!

  • cannot wait too see it moving. at least in part, with some person-slave turning cranks, before it gets an engine.

  • There's been a motor in it from the beginning!

  • oh. well. uhm.... er....

  • You are such a damn tease- show it moving, already! We KNOW it does SOMETHING! Even if it's got no legs yet, LOL.

  • Hey now! I'll poop on your hobo house!

  • Join the mice, and the chipmunks....

  • where are you now

  • In Vermont. ...near the Dome.

  • fuck just dont tell us you are more advanced than what we are watching now...it makes me soo fucking crazy to now you are more advanced...wanna see more videos please ahahah btw nice video jaja

  • ha ha. err... I won't tell you what I did today, then.

  • hahah Nice mixture of thought and physical processes. Take a break, go dig that soil. lol

  • ya. Digging is a great break. :-)

  • Metric win :D

  • totally!

  • Jamie is like a mini-Tesla!

  • Can't I be a mini me!? ...or even better... a real size me! YAY!

  • Awesome! Updates ASAP.

Wondering if it's actually helpful for you to video the progress or if it hinders things, I mean I 'm glad you do so we can watch, but.... For me it's a big pain to video the process, it slows down everything to a crawl. arghhh.

  • Actually. Thats was a big consideratio when I started. I decided that I'd only video when its not a hinderance. Thats why sometimes I don't video anything for a while. I just do it when its convenient and I'm inspired to do so. :-)

  • hehe.. agree with that: "ARHH.. who works with inches and feet.. ..its crazy! ahhh i know a lot of people do... argarhh!!"

    :D

  • ha ha. ya. metric makes so much more sense. easier to make calculations too.

  • YAY! for the metric system

  • And what's Your experience with the chemical "TetraHydroCanabinol"?

  • two n's in cannabinol :) good stuff

  • Hell Yeah. Kick Ass.

  • thanks! :-)

  • err... no experience. Not interested in drugs.

  • Hey man, have You ever heard of "Asperger's Syndrome"? I have it and I think I've recognized some thing in Your voice, maybe not, but also because of your severe ability to build...(that's a compliment). How's Your electronics knowledge?

  • dude, the same thing crossed my mind. Jaime seems to have that type of innate gift that sometimes comes with Asperger's or autism - the more of Jaime's videos I watch, the more I think about it...

  • ha ha. Ya, I've been told I probably have ass-burgers. ....and I'm dyxlesciac (dyslexic). :-P ...and various other things by various people. I spose it doesn't make much difference to me.

  • ... Are we like long lost twin brothers or something?

Seriously... we are like exact copies of each other... except I think that your a little older :-P

  • aw damnit! Why do I have to be the older one. Oh wait... that means I get to boss you around. Wait a second... I hate bossing people around! Darn!

  • I've been told I have ass-bergers. I have an IQ of around 200... little interest in social skills.. ha ha. I think very literally, and logically.

My electronics knowledge is mediochre. I understand it easily, though, and quickly learn whenever I need to.

Oh... I can computer program really easily.

  • h3ll yeah!!!! Screw inches and feet. The metric system is the way to go. I work in aerospace in the US and we still use inches!!!! Ahhhhh!! Stubborn old-timers can wean themselves off of their addiction to stupidity.

  • Exactly! The guys at work keep sending me for X inch nails and when I get there I'm all like "uhh.."

Then I just have to guess.

  • ha ha. thats annoying. :-P

  • ya. thats sort of sickening. ha ha

  • i have the same drill press

  • heh heh. Ya, it works pretty good. They're really cheap. China is crazy!

  • You need a metal fabrication machine. Or just the service.

  • You could make one bad ass wind chime!

Keep it up, it is really coming along great!

  • MORE VIDEOS! Dx

nice to see some progress again :)

let's hope it'll hold up when it's all done :B

  • You got me all hyped for more with that comment in the credits.

    Also: "a-LOO-min-um" FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. HAET! D':

  • What kind of metal is that, I can't tell from the video but it looks like steel!

  • lol you always say "brains" instead of brain. What are you trying to tell us?

  • Didn't you know, Jamie's so advanced he's duel core'd! :-)

  • duel cored? Does that mean I fight a lot?

  • If you got cored during a duel I think you'd die. (cored as in removing a part like you would coring an apple)

  • I'll just have to be the corer, then. Hmm... maybe thats a goood armament for the robot. ...THE CORER!

  • Then you can drill toward the center of the Earth! (Maniacal laugh)

  • Oh crap! Weld blobs may not be good! they may actually be hiding fatigue caused by overheating! Stress test your project! Please!

  • just be sure that most of your power tools are carbide tipped (except for jigsaws and orbital sanders...)

you'll be fine cutting soft metals.

  • I hope those welds aren't expected to hold the weight of the bot. =(

  • You need to blow something up. At the very least its good for the ratings lol.

  • yeah... i need to get one of them weldin shirts... half my t-shirts have tiny ember holes spotted all over them.

  • lol don't electrocute yourself with all that chainmail whilst welding!!

oh and at the end were you implying you have made a lot of progress or... ?

  • I can't wait to see this thing finished...
