Never eat while you are thinking. Eating food causes a lot of food to gather around the stomach - you need it in the brain. Sherlock Holmes never ate while pondering :)
I loved how you walked us through your brain process! haha that would be a fun program to see on a computer. Probably not as fast as you can think though. :P
I'm really sorry, but even when you think really hard for hours, the number of calories your brain uses is ridiculously low. especially if you compare to how much calories you burn just breathing and keeping yourself warm trough a day.
That is more like it. Also remember that the brain only uses glucose while most of our cell can breakdown different carbohydrate and fats to produce energy. That is why the brain takes 25% of the glucose but only 19% of the calories.
Wrong. Go on wiki and search for metabolic rate and scroll down to the biochemistry section. On the right is a table of energy expenditure for basal metabolism. Brain is about 19%. And doesn't really increase if you spend your day making very cognitive tasks. The only way you can safely (I am excluding drugs) increase the number of calorie you burn is with physical activity.
so i really hope for your sake that you read these comments on your older videos, and learn things like aluminum casting in foundries that would make robot building 100,000 times easier =P
find some sort of a steel or iron container, like the bottom half of a cylindrical water heater, line it with a mixture of cement, sand, perlite (a very cheap/common plant fertilizer thing that happens to be really really heat resistant), and any clay (preferably 'fireclay'), and then have an air intake source in the bottom, im so bad at explaining this, and then weld together a cylindrical iron 'crucible' that will hold the molten aluminum
It sounds like you've hit on this already but just in case; You should preheat aluminum before welding and you'll get much better welds, So get out your torch (I assume you have a torch) and preheat the aluminum (making sure the joints are cleaned well with a wire brush first) then weld. I wish I wish I had your time and energy,
Hey Jaime, great video, one of my favourites so far - I really enjoyed the insight into your mental processes. I think they're as fascinating as the idea of the robot, or watching it being built! The trumpet blaster improv was also great video. Keep it up bro!
Man... if I had a nickel for everytime time I've been in that exact situation...
On the welding... You can increase the heat by turning the wire speed down really low. It burns up welding tips faster, but can allow you to weld thicker metal. Also, you can grab a MAP gas torch from HomeDepot and preheat the metal. That helps a lot too.
What kind of blade are you using to cut that aluminum with?
All in all, awsome work! I wish I had a place like yours so that I could build my mad science!
Ya, I've been thinking about using a torch to heat up the metal first.... but I have enough things to worry about. I'm just pooling it. :-P I have been turning down the wire speed. ....but like you say, burns tips so I try not to do it too much.
You should get a place for mad scientist stuff! just buy some land, and build a building. :-P heh heh. ...piece of cake, right? err....
I wish it was that simple. Everyplace that I have looked has lots of rules about what you can and can not do. Also, all of the property that I have found so far is rediculously expensive.
I'm currently on the lookout for some cheap (useless to the average person) property out in the middle of nowhere so that I can start my seceret Madscience Facility :-P
Oh ya... you just have to look in the right place. Like.... in the mountains somewhere.... or out in the midwest desert.... New Brunswick old mining areas.... places like that.
fuck just dont tell us you are more advanced than what we are watching now...it makes me soo fucking crazy to now you are more advanced...wanna see more videos please ahahah btw nice video jaja
Wondering if it's actually helpful for you to video the progress or if it hinders things, I mean I 'm glad you do so we can watch, but.... For me it's a big pain to video the process, it slows down everything to a crawl. arghhh.
Actually. Thats was a big consideratio when I started. I decided that I'd only video when its not a hinderance. Thats why sometimes I don't video anything for a while. I just do it when its convenient and I'm inspired to do so. :-)
Hey man, have You ever heard of "Asperger's Syndrome"? I have it and I think I've recognized some thing in Your voice, maybe not, but also because of your severe ability to build...(that's a compliment). How's Your electronics knowledge?
dude, the same thing crossed my mind. Jaime seems to have that type of innate gift that sometimes comes with Asperger's or autism - the more of Jaime's videos I watch, the more I think about it...
ha ha. Ya, I've been told I probably have ass-burgers. ....and I'm dyxlesciac (dyslexic). :-P ...and various other things by various people. I spose it doesn't make much difference to me.
h3ll yeah!!!! Screw inches and feet. The metric system is the way to go. I work in aerospace in the US and we still use inches!!!! Ahhhhh!! Stubborn old-timers can wean themselves off of their addiction to stupidity.

@julmichdid The brain uses approximately 80% of your body's gross glucose production.

Which orifice did you pull that number from? According to wikipedia the brain pulls 25% of glucose consumption.

SO ANYWAY
heres what i mean by a Homemade Foundry:
find some sort of a steel or iron container, like the bottom half of a cylindrical water heater, line it with a mixture of cement, sand, perlite (a very cheap/common plant fertilizer thing that happens to be really really heat resistant), and any clay (preferably 'fireclay'), and then have an air intake source in the bottom, im so bad at explaining this, and then weld together a cylindrical iron 'crucible' that will hold the molten aluminum
confedswede 2 years ago
aw man, if only i saw this video when it first 'came out on youtube'!!!
i'd be able to comment with genius advice, and you would read my comment, and be like "damn that confedswede dude has some damn good ideas"
well, even though im a bit late on this one, here's my genius advice:
BUILD A HOMEMADE FOUNDRY
this is quite literally a 'magic machine that can make any shape of metal you want'
darn my comment is too long, ill have to go on into another one...

I make cartoons in my mind of what I am wanting it to do. Kinda like a cad program.
