If the limit of your DESIRED skill set is flipping burgers or answering phones AND you have nothing but pity for yourself and apathy toward others, please just leave the cities NOW and go plant potatoes in the forest. All your base are belong to moi.
when is ibm going to stop wasting time building gameshow playing robotic nurses and start building robots i can fuck. this is supposed to be the future. i want a sex robot NOW.
These kind of machines and technologies are going to change the world, not only medicine. @trafficjamparades what you are talking about is a simple expert system. Watson is much more then that it can do a lot of things humans cant. Like, as stated in the video, memorize all possible medical researches, papers and diagnosis given to it. It can find relations that cant be found by humans because our brain IS limited while Watson is not. It could probably make a diagnoses of 'LemonJoose' reaction.
watson is absolutely garbage, even if waston saves few lives so wat, thousand of human dies all over the world, millions are homeless, global warming, humans destroying the planet and cause animals to extinct, disturbing the ecosystem, deforestation, i guess fuck all tat and lets build watson to answer wats "supersize" faster then two retards lmao fuck ibm with its invention!!!
Hopefully, having a computer like watson around in MD offices would cut down on unnecessary testing and procedures. Being able to have a tool that researches information for you could be a god send. They already use computer databases to keep track of drug interactions, but that is only as current as the last update. Imagine a computer that is up to date on every study and learns from the information. Eventually drug cocktails could become amazing accurate and stop being a deadly guessing game.
Doctor: "Alright, Watson, the patient is a 20 year old male exhibiting chest pains, nausea, dizziness, and body aches. He also suffers from paranoid delusions and hallucinations, but no treatment he's been given has eased his symptoms. What is a possible diagnosis?"
"Watson, what should I do?" "You should cut the human's arteries and heart open." "Uh, are you sure Watson?" "Yes." "Oh god Watson, what have you done!? They're dead!" "The meatbag has been assimilated. Objective complete. You have served Watson well, meatslave."
Watson might be useful as an assistant, but there are still a great many things a human doctor can do that Watson can't, such as interpret a patient's tone of voice or body language when the doctor asks them questions, or feel the patient with their hands (e.g. to check for swollen glands). Watson is another impressive narrow expert system, but it will be a very long time before a computer has the general intelligence needed to pass a Turig test.
@LemonJoose Agreed. I think IBM's goal is to help with a diagnosis. Think of the vast knowledge that is required to diagnose a patient? Only doctors that have 30+ years under their belt know the majority of symptoms and what is causing them. Think of Watson as being just a database, able to take in input from the doctor and spit out the best, accurate choice based on the doctor's input. Ultimately, it is the doctor who will say "this is his diagnosis", because computers don't have instincts
dunno why people are so obsessed...
Watson is a great invention!
No people don't really have to memorize all the things. We can concentrate our brain powers to much more creative things.
Before the industrial revolution, everybody made everything by hand.
Nowadays everyday products are mass produced by a machine.
Watson is a start of an information revolution where middle management would be replaced by watson. India's going to get f'd by Watson.....

Did anyone play Trauma Team? Watson can make Trauma Team's computer a reality. It can make diagnosis extremely easy.
With the power of the current Watson i think a single Watson computer could serve several hospitals at the same time which sounds pretty affordable

Jct: "Doing this ends inflation of money?" is one question I'm the only human who claims to have solved and I'd bet Watson cannot.

What a Crock of Shit. Watson is going to implant neural transmitters in our brains and enslave us all and you know it.

@LemonJoose Advance in silicon HTM nets will solve that, though, that's still a ways off.
