  • So this is where the feminist movement began..!

  • I have to do this for a singing class and I have to learn it in fifteen more minuets. Great.

  • First Wives Club was the first time I heard this song I have loved it ever since

  • yo samstag ilse.. werd bei mir noch etwas vorglühen..

hör dir mal den an "" The Seeds Can't seem to make you mine LIVE "" auch ein geiler song

    viel spass und bis samstag.

  • I really like this song !! :D I'm freeeeeee n.n

  • Grüße an Jessy

  • @xtyfoonx mmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    danke dir!!!

sehn uns am samstag in der ilse????????????????????

    lg

  • der geilste song überhaubt

  • The Woods!

  • 37 people didnt like to be told not to tell her what to do

  • beckons of a time long ago, when girls were pure, and their beus were just fine with that.

  • Woah! There is no such thing as people having more pain than anyone else in this life. People all have pain and it all hurts the same way. And hey. I appreciate a guy looking after me, because that's sweet and then I knwo e cares, but I also like being my own person. So, there. Am I about to get yelled at?

  • Is there a particular reason that the song fades out like that? I can't find a single version on youtube that both has an ending and isn't live.

It's a great song, but I'd like an ending.

  • One of the first salvos of the womens equality movement! Way ahead of her time.

  • Eminem!

  • RZA

  • 37 people must've been the posessive type.

  • Love it...!!!

  • love this song

  • untitled

  • We're cowards for being born with balls? Uhh..

  • pure courage singing this song , I respect her for it - its time the truth is said women are always seen inferior to men , Women are people to, and actually put up with a lot more shit then men! - Periods , Pregnancy anyone? We're actually the stronger ones because being mentally strong is more important then acting or being physically strong who agrees!!!! lets see you go through the pain we do , your cowards!

  • @lovelydovey0599 Bull-to-the-fucking shit.

Who the fuck went to war, saw horrible shit you couldn't dream off, shot fucking kids and even killed our own people TO KEEP YOU SAFE?

    WE DID.

Who fights and kicks the shit out of anyone to try to harm our wives?

    WE DO.

The only reason men adopted that macho figure,

    IS BECAUSE YOU CREATED IT.

And, we've been through a hell of a lot more pain than you have, believe me.

Lets see you get tortured, get the shit kicked out of you in a pub, or shot.

  • @PriorityOfVengence The reason men are so sexist towards you, is because you pick a guy, make him think you love him, take his money and fuck off to someone else to repeat the process.

We got sick of it, so we stopped loving you, and just married you to make us food.

Lets see you beat the living hell out of a burgular who is trying to attack the one you love, or lets see you go on the hunt for years with guns after some guy who raped your daughter,

    MEN.

    FIGHT.

    FOR.

    YOU.

    In return=complaints.

  • @PriorityOfVengence fuck that. your generalizing all men as 'ideal' soldiers from a century ago. not all men are as violent as you say and it sure as hell shouldn't be justified. girls can go to war, girls can stand up for themselves, girls get shot and tortured! we're all people, these things don't just happen to men.

but I don't agree with her either, being a women doesn't automatically make you better than a man, your just inverting the ideology we've been combating.

  • @PriorityOfVengence

No way. Women take as much pain as men. And I'm not saying that women are better. Each gender has special things that they are better at than the other.

  • @tinmanluver35 Then explain to me why women talk about rainbows and positive shit all day, never returning to reality?

I'm not generalising, just saying what most of today's women are like.

And, also, if your simply fucked, they'll tell you to smile and to get over it before even analysing the situation?

I'm telling you, they don't go through as much shit as men do.

  • @PriorityOfVengence

Yes, women do go through as much crap as men. Maybe different kinds of crap, but that doesn't make male sufferring any better or worse than female sufferring. And no, women do not talk about positive stuff all day. Some of them may, but you cannot group all women into one category like that. Have you talked with every woman in the world to see what they are like on a day-to-day basis?

  • @PriorityOfVengence It would be like me saying all men are self-righteous pigs who think women are only good as servants and sexual partners. That would not be a fair statement, and I do not think yours is a fair statement.

  • @tinmanluver35 Your open to your opinion, but im an asshole, so your argument is invalid to me.

Infact, i don't understand why your arguing over something i don't care about.

Admit it. Your kicking a dead horse.

Doesn't matter if women dont go through as much pain or do,

We're both gonna die. Soon. That you Can't run from.

Just saying. Now please shut the fuck up so i can go back to listening to music while laughing at feminists..

  • @PriorityOfVengence

If you want to admit you're being a jerk, it's fine with me. And if you don't care about the issue I don't see why you would have commented in the first place or why you would be listening to this song. You sound bitter to me. That is not an insult; I just get the feeling that you have been betrayed or disappointed by someone at some point. Just remember, like I said, not everyone is the same.

  • @lovelydovey0599 My 3rd and final point is, look what you have done to men, what you have done to people who thought you really loved them.

Look at the men drinking themselves to death in a pub, look at the serial killers heartbroken because their woman left them, look at the suicidal men driving themselves into rivers because their woman left them for someone richer, look at the men getting into countless fights over people bringing up their exes.

We suffer much more emotional pain then you.

  • @PriorityOfVengence wtf? your blaming women for serial killers and suicide now? and are you living in an action movie? what guy in real life devotes his life to hunting a fucking rapist? and what about that article that was written just recently, about the women who shot a burglar for trying to break in when she was alone with her young son. she defended him the same as any parent would. asshole.

  • @SmokenTotalled Let me fucking tell you something, my cousin was brutally beaten and raped by a gang of fucking savages, i spent 9 years looking for them with most of my family, and my second cousin shot the man responsible dead. He's still in prison now.

Let me tell you something else, look on the news for men's wives who have been raped, look at how far the fucking men go to get the man responsible.

Look at women who say they love men, then laugh in their face, and blame it on men.

    Dumbass.

  • eminem XD

  • amazing song, classy and a pure classic and I'm a male but don't give a shit.

  • I'm an 80's baby and listen to strictly Hip/Hop, this was used as a sample on a track I love and had to find the original song and I did thanks to my girlfriend who listens to this stuff. I will be on the hunt for this on 12" vinyl

  • 36 toys are owned!!!!!!!

  • Love this Song. Its classic they don't make music like this any more.

  • I was born in 2000 but i love songs from the 60s and 50s

  • I'm a 90's kid, but I love these woman empowering songs! They're alot better than songs like Keshas' "Sleazy" or Avrils' "What the Hell" or Katy Perrys' "Peacock". We need more songs like "You Don't Own Me" or "These Boots Are Made For Walking" or "My Boyfriends Back". Songs that say "Hey if you're gonna cheat on me or treat me bad, then I'm going to leave your sorry ass and sing about how it's gonna make me stronger!"

  • I was a kid when I 1st heard this in the 80's when my mom was lip-singing it doing a full-on dance to it in the living room! It was hilarious!!! AHH memories!

  • Does Lesley Live an alternate Life Style.

    Love, love her Music.

  • @cizzlen07 ditto

  • NFL brought me to this great song.

  • Men dont ever want a women to express themselves.

  • the convent!

  • yo this real music mang...the flow is married to the beat...people don't really know how to make music anymore

  • @pointlesscomedy yes your comedy is pointless, you twat

  • Go make me some pie women

  • this would be a great song to sing to kids!!!! remind them they dont actually own you lol!!

  • I had the pleasure of Meeting Leslie Gore back in 1989 when I flew her and a friend to Boston Logan on a charter flight from East Hampton NY. I love her music and she was very nice and a very beautiful woman as well.

  • SEARCH ,RabittTunes-You Dont Own Me (you'll love it!)

  • What Katie Holmes sings in her dreams.

  • @rmtmiller rofl, perfect joke for a beautiful song

  • @rmtmiller hahahahahahahahhahahahah....hahahahahahahahhaha....hahahahaha

  • I dont want to own you. I already own several better vaginas aka women.

  • i like this song...and im a guy

  • @gibbylupefiascofan Yeah, i'm a guy too and born 1989. I'm not gay but that is not normal or ? ^^

  • @honkdalonk no idea... lol

  • I'm so use to this type of music and that makes me happy so for once I'm not even going to see things like "When did this go out of style???" or "Nothing now compares to these timeless classics" or "Music was so good now its just trash." I already know that's true so I'll just say I love this song because its good music, good voice good and TRUE lyrics! Ugh guys could be such ass holes wanting to be all macho and making you be someone your not!

  • PLAYED TWICE #Lol

  • so real

  • Love It

  • Power to women??? Do you realize Leslie Gore also sang the songs "That's The Way Boys Are" and "Maybe I know" which both talk about overlooking the cheating and infidelity and rough treatment of women by men??? aka boys will be boys bull shit. its too bad she didn't sing more songs like this one. but since she pretty much sang whatever songs were given to her, i don't think she had much discretion...

  • @bEhOnOrAbLe Lesley is also Lesbian

  • Rza

  • Eminem used this song:D

  • This is NOT the original version. This is a cheap re-make. This song never appeared on any of Lesley's albums. It was NOT produced by Quincy Jones. I think it is one of those K-Tel knock-offs. Get the original...this does not compare.

  • @majikcolors it is by lesley gore i did the research

  • @gobenhopper Yes, this was re-recorded by Lesley decades later for a cheap re-make label. But it is not the original version recorded in 1963 and released early 1964. This is very weak and lacks the power of the original recording.

  • Tengo que hacer un cover de esta canción.

  • heard this song in burberry show 2011 and loved immedietly

  • women need to take control of the world like we took control of our homes. girl power! too bad misogynists are everywhere loving their power. team up and rise against! not enough has changed. don't let men talk down to you for being a feminist either, men have tried to turn feminist into a dirty word. do you like that your daughters are earning less pay than a man for doing the same job?

  • Pure iconic song! I can't imagine hearing this song in the 60's, what a great step toward hearing the women's voice. Rock on! =o)

  • Great song! :)

  • Why does anyone even bother answering people with name "holocaustnvrhappened"? Obviously, they're trolling, and if they're not it's a person stubborn enough to believe the Holocaust never happened -_-

  • Wow what a voice.......!

  • Eminem

  • @ValiumAlleyoop correction.........havoc

  • @cobaniac19 what?

  • @ValiumAlleyoop ha i was jus messing around. u right its an eminem song but havoc from mobb deep produced it

  • I love this song. I'm an 80s kid but my sisters were from the 60s, and my mother from the 40s. Women's Movement yes! Power to women!

  • @PointlessComedy WTF???

  • @PointlessComedy sutch a ignorant thing to write

  • @Samadhiatman500 back to the kitchen!!!

  • Is there a video for this ?

I like this version, there was a French Canadian version sang by a singer called Michele Richard, called "Je suis libre" (I am free), and it is just hilarious if you look at the video. It looks like it's just an ironic song meant to say "I'm totally a slave" lol

This one is musch more credible and nicely sung.

For the people who think women are in control today, sorry but as a girl, I couldn't disagree more. We are more than ever consenting slaves. And abused ones.

  • great song....

  • love this

  • I personally only know this song because of the NFL womens apparel commercial on NFL network. Nice track. I must say tho, now a days, its quite opposite. Maybe prior to marriage men still have the power nowadays but in marriage lotta men are controlled beyond belief (young couples/marriages not old school marriages). Balance of power will never be truly even, not unless both parties work hard at it. We (men) are still meant to be the head, but are nothing without a strong supportive wife IMO

  • I was just about to press the replay button and then the song started again :D i was very happy

  • 1889 Like!

  • holocaustnvrhappend? you fool! look at WW2 history! The evidence is plain to see!

  • I wish they played this at our prom!

  • On his song 'Untitled' on recovery he samples the part that goes 'you don't own me' he brings me to all the good music (mostly rap) lol . Shady for life.

  • @perogie34 yup, Slim Shady brought me here. I love him. Shady till I f-ing die. :P

  • @ShadysAngels how did eminem bring you to this song lol?

  • @xopameladiana he sampled this song on Recovery. his version of the song is called "Untitled"

  • @ShadysAngels he brought me here too (:

  • When you heard it, it was old. I heard this when she first sang it in '64. It sounds much better now after remastering it.

  • this chic is a class act

  • 27 people want to own her!

  • Terrific song! And I loved Leslie as one of the Catwoman's kittens on the Batman TV show.

  • thanks

  • The First Wives Club!

  • I first heard this song at a dance concert and I loved it ever since!

  • Brojam83-the hatred inside of you is the same hatred that causes wars the world over-it's the same hatred that has made the human race an abomination- may God forgive u 4 your hatred

  • 1st class!

  • I like the song but I don't like the ending, where she breaks down the words, it's unnecessary. I prefer the live recording.

  • Check out the Klaus Nomi cover!

  • Havoc Must Be An Amazing Producer. He Sampled This For Eminem.

  • This song has always dragged me back to January 1964--a really somber time for the United States and the world with the death of President Kennedy. The melody reflected the sadness felt by young people everywhere.

  • The fact that some ppl might have discovered this song from a misogynistic and homophobic asshole of a rapper makes me sick. XP

  • @perogie34 pop some pills then

  • @perogie34 how is he homophobic ?? when he says some gay things....i mean it is an abomination!...men cant have kids and women cant have kids without a man. i bet if u put in batteries the wrong way in a remote it wont work. being gay is an abomination and having the pride is wicked. and if u were gay in the biblical days u wouldnt be proud of being punished. im not homophobic that would mean i fear them....i simply dont like them. but as for this song, its a good one, nice beat and melody .

  • @brojam83 If you're religious (which as well all know causes more problems than gay people) then in your eyes it would be an abomination. HOWEVER, to most of the free thinking world, it isn't. And we go about our daily lives living in harmony with each other.

    Peace and love, red.

  • A lot of adults feel this way about their parents...who refuse to stop meddling in their lives & business. I think this song celebrates being a grown up, who is no one's property.

  • Ha! First Wifes Club baby! What a great song and voice.

  • NFL commercial braught me hear!!!

  • eminem brought me here

  • Brilliant voice - Excelllent

  • i clicked this video just for eminem lol

  • @BliksemSP GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN! : <

  • Not the original version.

  • I guess one has to be in their 60's to understand how unusual this song was at the time. I was just a kid but, I remember that 'men', were in control. Women were simply slaves and breeders. She sang what everyone was thinking. It was the Dawn of the women's movement.

  • @elduath wow from reading what you wrote, it made me love this song even more...thanks for the trivia

  • @elduath

You are so right. My girl, at the time used this song to tell me how she felt and I certainly got the message.

Up until "Sunshine, Lollipops....." EVERY song Lesley released was great.

  • My name is Leslie :) I just typed in Leslie and this came up...

  • wow radness

  • I love that I get to listen to this song twice without having to pressing the replay button :P

  • you dont own me... you dont own me.. I will kick your but if you dare to do so... I will over use your credit cards .. ... jejejejejej jijijiji.... my best song !!!!!

  • I'm young and I love to be young

  • I love when on the ex wives club they sing this

  • @holocaustnvrhappend-----behind every good man is an even better woman. your mom failed you and your dad should have beat you. people like you, so ignorant, belong on an isolated island. you're an infection to society.

  • @emmynemz That guy is a sexist but doing the whole "behind every good man is an even better woman" is what keeps people seperated. It's a trick. Beyonce can make a song called girls rule the world but a guy who makes a song saying guys rule the world would sound sexist. You know why? Cause getting the targeted people to say things as if they are a completely different race keeps them seperated and creates the idea that one is inferior to the other.

  • @jayjacobson14 I was thinking that same thing.Lol It's a matter of appreciating each group for the things that make it unique and respecting them enough to allow them to pursue their own endeavors. Gay, straight, black, white and all that. If women are allowed to make songs like Beyonce's Run The World then guys should be able to also. Respectively of course but people shouldn't encourage the double standard.

  • @tearsinmycoke Smart person you are.

  • @emmynemz .......2% of male population r good men ... stuff it

  • @emmynemz what a horrible thing to say! no one is an 'infection'. we all have value!

  • @emmynemz i agree with most of this but nobody deserved to be beaten by their father...
