i really liked this movie and i like the other myers halloween movies!, but in my oppinion, they should have made more of these, more halloween realated storys as well as the other myers movies. I dont know, but isnt a guy with a knife stabing people to piano music a little boring after a while? i dont know. but my favorite movie is the original halloween (1), but this ones awesome as well!
After 15 years i finally dediced to watch H3 season of the witch, well FOOKING SCREW all the people who told me it was rubbish.....i LOVED IT....wish i watched it bloody sooner! Def goona be one of my future halloween classics, oh and Tom Atkins in it too, i likes him! That song is still stuck in my head though, it's driving me nuts actually :s
I think they should have just called it Halloween: Season of the witch and end the Michael Myers story.
The reason there were more Myers stories was because they called it the third of the series and people expected it to be about Myers.
Its understandable, as the Myers story is more meant to be about a mental who killed his sister on Halloween and the rest of it is nealy unrelated to the holiday.
This anthology series would still be here if they made it another Halloween series altogether.
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i would have loved to have seen the anthology idea fully take off with some other great films but, sadly, it just wasn't meant to be.
to settle this "why wasnt h3 with michael myers?" debate: john carpenter and deborah hill had thought the michael myers part of halloween was over and wanted to make new stories, the 3rd being silver shamrock psycho, and the series was pretty much going to be new events and story lines per movie. thats why H3 was made, i also heard a rumor that there was an editing error for the title in the studio and thats why it was called halloween III
Good movie but it had nothing to do with the Halloween series or witches. The producers used the Halloween name. Would've faired better as a stand alone film.
You obviously didn't pay attention to the dialogue, did you? The cochran guy mentioned that his ancestors were ancient celtic ppl who participated in child sacrifice during All Hallow's Eve. That is characteristic of witches! And they used Stone Henge to harness their power! Witchcraft is all over this movie.
dag. i remember seeing this with my dad and brother when it came on tv. too bad i was only 10 and couldnt see it in the theater.. but i remember this exact t.v.. spot. in 1982
OMG THANK YOU for posting this!! I KNEW I had seen this rare TV spot before when I was a kid...they should have never used images for the first two HALLOWEENs which totally made it seem like Michael Myers would be in this one.
Halloween III is a different story because Michael Myers was blown up and had his eyes shot out at the end of Halloween II, plus doctor Loomis was also killed. John Carpenter and Debra Hill {quite rightly} refused to make a third Halloween as it would've been milking the public. The same reason Steven Spielberg refused to make Jaws 2 - This isn't a story there. Halloween II wasn't scary in the slightest and it failed to make even half as much money as the original. Those are the reasons.
@deightfullymin check ur facts, halloween II was actually very succesfull grossing only $1,000,000 less than the 1st. it is recognized as one the greatest horror films ever and top 5d in AMC's best sequels. it was a huge success and mixed elements of suspense and the new 80s blood/gore genre. wtf do you mean halloween II wasnt nearly as succsessfull?
you are wrong. The original Halloween was a BOMB at the box office. Only later did ppl appreciate it for the cult atsmosphere it created. Go watch Halloween: The Inside Story.
This is my fave of the whole series after the original. I mean, it could have been done better, but I liked the creepy plot and it was truly a demented plan, & I much prefer the idea of the film series being an anthology always set on Halloween night rather than a constant retread of Michael Myers slasher stuff. I also just love movies that incorporate Halloween traditions, & I'd like to have seen more of that. We need a great horror movie dealing with a classic Halloween witch.
Do you also like Halloween 4, H2o and Rob Zombie's Remake as well? you'd rather have an anthology than killa-thons and do you think Halloween 2 ruined the idea for Halloween 3? i mean H2 was another Michael movie and that would establish Michael to be in every movie.
@Johnlindsey289 I like those all right, but Zombie's was just entertaining but unnecessary. Not that I don't like remakes, I just wasn't too impressed by his, especially the awful sequel he made. Yeah, I'd much prefer an anthology series, or even better, an anthology film, like "Trick or Treat". Now that's a Halloween movie I really adore. But, for this franchise, I do consider the original and part 3 as annual must view films for the holiday.
Michael DIED in Halloween 2 because Carpenter wanted Michael's story to be over, he had a concept to turn the franchise into a big screen Creepshow-Tales from The Crypt style horror anthology of different Halloween themed horror stories and this was the first and last one to try that idea.
Great movie that i saw in theaters as a kid. It's a real shame that they never made any more Halloween films like this one, which featured original stories and not just the same old Michael Myers stalk and slash routine over and over again.
The biggest problem was that they had Michael again in part 2 which meant that it would establish Michael to be in every sequel and that was a huge mistake, i think they should have done this anthology concept in the vein of Grindhouse, Creepshow, Twilight Zone and Tales from The Crypt every Halloween season with part 2 instead of part 3 then leave Michael alone after part 1.
@Johnlindsey289 Well, H2 was necessary though because it brought final closure to the story begun in the first film, much like Superman 2 wrapped everything up quite nicely with it's conclusion. They went wrong with the third film by marketing it as a sequel to the first two films, never mentioning that it had nothing to do with the Michael Myers story at all. It would have been better if it had been titled Halloween:Season of the Witch and promoted as an entirely different film from the first 2.
This Halloween sequel wasn't even scary, but they made it sound so spooky when they advertised it on TV back in October of 1982 before they released it not even informing us that Michael Myers wasn't even in this 3rd installment of the Halloween saga either which is the main reason why this bombed at the box office back in the Fall of 1982.
They should have advertised about the series going into a new direction even in the trailers and posters about this anthology concept including on how Michael is dead after part 2 and that why it could have been accepted but they didn't and that was a problem.
Absolutely @Johnlindsey289, I totally agree with you, but I'm sure the reason why they didn't advertise on the previews & movie trailers was more than likely due to the fact that they wanted to get people curious enough to want to go see this movie and didn't want to risk discouraging people from giving this sequel a try by not saying or telling anybody there was no Michael Myers, no Laurie Strode, no Dr. Loomis, no Sheriff Brackett, no Haddonfield, Illinois either.
You gotta admit this was a nice try though, just think of the possiblities of each installment being fresh, original and different kind of stories like Twilight Zone, Grindhouse, Creepshow or Heavy Metal every year instead of the same old thing? what did you think of Halloween 4, H2O and Rob Zombie's first Halloween remake?
Yep @Johnlindsey289, I have to admit it was a nice try trying something different by taking on a totally new level and dimension of the HALLOWEEN saga, but when they advertised this movie on TV, they were making it look and sound as if it were even scarier and even more shocking than the first 2 Halloween installments, but it turned out that HALLOWEEN 3 didn't even come close to be shocking at all, but they probably figured the Michael Myers character was getting tired & burned out.
For those confused about this movie, Michael DIED in Halloween 2 and Carpenter had enough of Michael Meyers as he decided to end his story with Halloween 2. He had a concept to transform the series into an anthology of halloween themed horror stories every Halloween season but didn't tell the public about this idea and it bombed badly as the idea died, i would have loved to see this idea grown. But i wish they never made Halloween 2 another Michael movie and had that idea instead for part 2.
@bawalker022 The studios wanted to capitalize on the name recognition of the Halloween franchise even if they thought the Michael Myers storyline had run its course (which it hadn't as evidenced by later Halloween films).
One of the first "sequel" ideas considered by the producers of Jaws was actually a prequel that would have developed Quint's story of being torpedoed on the Indianapolis but this was shelved in favor of bringing back Amity and the surviving characters from the first movie.
you're totally wrong, John Carpenter originally planned on having a different and unrelated plot (aside from being horror films set on Halloween, of course) for each Halloween movie, but he gave up after this movie because no one liked it.
Confused are we? You need education. Carpenter had enough of Michael and decided to destroy him at the end of Halloween 2 and decided to burn him for all time, Carpenter had an idea to transform the franchise into a big screen Tales from The Crypt/Creepshow/Grindhouse style horror anthology of different Halloween themed horror movies every Halloween season but the idea failed when Carpenter didn't tell anyone or the public this concept or marketed the idea.
The idea they had was to release a movie with a completely different plot for every Halloween sequel after pt 2. When Halloween III bombed, they went back to the Michael Myers story.
@bawalker022 It was John Carpenter's idea. He hadn't even wanted to do a second one, but agreed to do it because the studio was going to make it with or without him. When the studio wanted a third, he came up with the idea of turning the series into an anthology; each new film would have new characters, settings, etc., but still be centered around the Halloween season. When this one bombed, however, he left the series permanently. Personally, I like this film. To each his own.
@bawalker022 Also, to add, John Carpenter felt there was no more story to tell with Myers, which was something that he also felt before they wanted Halloween II, so he decided as a compromise, to turn what had become a franchise into an anthology. Certainly a good idea at the time, but not one to use the numeral 3 and it didn't help that the script was undeveloped and the film's tone was indecisive about whether it wanted to be scary or gory. After 3, Carpenter sold his stake in the franchise.
i really liked this movie and i like the other myers halloween movies!, but in my oppinion, they should have made more of these, more halloween realated storys as well as the other myers movies.
