Never hold the end, always have the end hang over the log and cut just past log and let it fall. If you hold the log like you are doing it will jam up, like it did for you.
@ColinOutdoors what 2011is2012 is talking about is that when you are pushing down on the wood, the wood pinches together the blade making it harder to cut
I have a small suggestion regarding your sawing technique. If you place the wood so the point at which you're sawing is over (or at least closer to) the fulcrum (in this case, the wood you're leaning it on), you'll have a much easier time. The weight of the wood will help to pull the cut open, as oppose to squeezing it closed, thereby pinching your saw. Hope it helps!
i seen a video where they wrap paracord around the bottom of th hatchet to help absorb the shock and also help proven the hatchet handle to get damaged
How is the haft behind the beard holding up? I noticed that it tends to get hit here and there so wrapping some paracord on that section might be a good idea. What do you think?
@owens711 Hi mate, nice one my friend, its a great little hatchet. I purchase mines from a local store. Not sure who wrote the thread on the hatchet but you should be able to find it from google hopefully. Cheers my friend
Thanks for the vid and the review. I think it makes for a more instructional vid when everything doesn't go as planned. Whenever I'm out in the woods something like this always comes up and it's good to see how others approach the situation. Keep it up, thanks again!
Hey collin, I've never seen that method of splitting with a hatchet, That's pretty cool I'll have to give it a try sometime. I split most of my wood in the back-country with a Cold Steel Trailmaster large survival knife. Good work man keep it up.
I have never seen anyone split wood that way before...It seems safer....I'm not really sure what to think....well It seems to be working fine...Have fun and stay safe
Congrats on your popularity Colin. Your videos display good info, without any "attitude". Keep up the good work, and look fwd. to more. Best wishes, and well done.
Congratulations on the 3000 subs, you deserve it. I have noticed you channel getting some recognition in the 'prepper (survivalist) community' here in the U.S. I think once you become more known, you will become very popular very quickly. Thank yo for sharing your knowledge, Be well ..Rick
You deserve it Colin and a BIG CONGRATS ON 3000 SUBS. You should be proud of yourself. Keep up the good work and I really mean that. Excellent demonstration as well....10 BIG STARS!!!!!!!
Thanks for the vid and all the hard work you do.....that saw you are using looks like it cuts very well..what brand is it? (sorry if you said and i missed it).. hatchet looks looks like quality also....one other thing..you always seem to take the time to thank everyone on comments...not all do that...thanks for taking the extra time to show us you care
@dakdak88 Thank you so much for you kind words my friend, I means alot to me that you and everyone else views and comments and I want to make sure that you know how much I appreciate that. My saw is a Bacho Laplander Saw, it is really nice and cuts very well. Take care my friend.
@chuckweb66 Thank you very much my friend, I really appreciate your support, thats great you like Husqvarna and your Mom sells the Sewing machines, I am very impressed with the company so far as well :-)
@n1ck3o7 Thanks a good idea my friend, I may just do that, I usually make sure I put the sheath in a pocket or my pack but it could fall out. Sorry to hear about the loss of your sheath
And just a little suggestion, if you trying to split the wood all the way down the centre it might be better to put the blade on the flat bit on the top and twist a little bit as you hit it (saw that on a ray mears show :) ) just an idea.
Well Collin thak You for taking time to react to the comments written, thats what is different about You (and I like that).
And one little comment, you are using the saw the wrong way, when you are sawing the wood is clamping your saw when you get halfway thru (i hope I could explain that in correct English).
I like the saw, and I will look if I can find one in the shops over here, and that is another thing I like, You do not only do a review but also uses it.
@happymark1805 Thanks Mark, great tip about using the Saw, it was pinching quite a bit. I really appreciate your support as always my friend, take care
CONGRATS on 3,000 sub's brother, iv always enjoyed your vids, informative and very enteraining ( you have a great sense of humour) and a very down to earth presentation style and quailty vids and hence why you have so many sub's. I must admit i said out loud "Good Lad!" when you used the lanyard ( only realy need it when choping the big stuff but very good Col) ha!, that looks like your happy with the Huskie( finaly popped the cherry on it nice) and thank you for quality work Keep it going bro!
I find that sawing and splitting wood is a huge waste of time and energy since smaller pieces are always available and even large pieces are rather easy to break into usable sizes. I use a hatchet to split off some fat pine but not much else.
@hunt458 Fair enough, but sometimes the wood lying on the ground is soaking wet and to get at the dry stuff you need to split larger logs down. Thanks for watching
Just a little tip for you Colin, when splitting wood with that method try to place the whole blade of the axe on the log. It will make your split much more effective. Congratulations on the 3000 subscribers. Keep those vids comin!

Congrats on the subscribers, the videos are great. The days that things are not going so well are the ones that prove your out their doing this stuff and not staging them for the video. keep up the good job.
Good video. You keep looking for ideal wood but i real life when are you going to have ideal wood. It seems like you looking for a specific result. As I watch the video I see a hatchet and it is splitting wood. The hatchet looks like it is doing a good job of making big pieces into smaller pieces whether it is rotten has knots or whatever. Assuming those smaller pieces are going into making a fire I dont think the fire will care how the pieces look.
@Alkatraz415 Thanks my friend, and you are correct, I guess I just wanted to show of the hatchet doing a perfect job. But your right, it worked and worked well. Thanks for your support my friend
Your a regular guy with a good sound point of view on your product reviews. You use these items in the same way and for the same reasons I would. Nice work! Congratulations.
To those of you commenting "you're cutting wrong" Make a video on how to cut then. He's obviously not stupid, nice video :D I'll try your technique.

See how the saw keeps jamming? Its because you are holding the end. This will cause the blade to get pinched and jammed.

The hatchet seems to really be working out. I hadn't seen that technique before but now I will be sure to try it. Thanks!

Your a regular guy with a good sound point of view on your product reviews. You use these items in the same way and for the same reasons I would. Nice work! Congratulations.
