Well said dude. Now I am living in eastern Ukraine and here almost all people are russian ethnically.these people are so much rude that you can't imagine about it.They always shout at u.when you will go to a shop to buy something they will not speak politely but they will shout.I think they can't speak politely.when I came here I was so much surprised that such type of people exist in planet.
I would never want to advise a culture by telling them to change in their country. But most foreigners I have met seem to agree that it would be nice if Russians showed a little bit more common courtesy when they happen to be in countries outside of their own. Please and thank you might be a good start, even if it is only when abroad, seeing most countries around the world collectively have descent manners.
@KriFFek their customs and habits man. most important thing next to language. Did you say you went to Russia and they all speak Russian at one point? That made me rofl. Of course they will, it's Russia. But whatever, that's why you're going there right? To learn
@HowManyEggs93 I think this may surprise you, but I am actually Russian by nationality. I was born in Russia and have been living here for 17 years now ;)
I've never been to Russia but still want to visit. I'm part Russian and some things you mention are not necessarily people being rude, just Russian! Such as smiling. Every time we had pictures taken my babushka would say, "Do not smile like an idiot". She had many rules like "never leave the house without nice clothes and makeup, but careful you do not look like trollop. LOL And if invited to dinner, always bring some sort of gift for your host, it is a sign of good manners.
OMG! You came to Russia and everybody speak russian, what a barbarians!!)))) And train conductors do not sell stuff, just believe 2 russian people )). And btw being nice doesn't mean you have to walk with a smile all the time, it's kinda wierd and disturbing.
@nenetaKonfeta I don't know about the rest - but they DO SELL STUFF nowadays. Even when I was going to Kazan by train, and back home there was still plenty of stuff to buy (including bed sheets - what idiot would NOT include them into the price of the ticket?!)
@KriFFek )))) (including bed sheets - what idiot would NOT include them into the price of the ticket?!) 100% agree. But reason was that train get people who are just for one station! Understand, bro? I was confused, wtf I need pay after I have tickets... so... I told you reason above.
I am russian. About train conductor - i`m not sure it was a conductor, maybe illegal merchant.
About smiling - we don`t smile for no reason. I don`t know why, but unreasonable smile kinda irritates us. We smile when we are happy or hear something funny, but we have no reason to smile at random strangers, even if they talk to us. Actually we have a saying "smeh bez prichini - priznak durachini" (laughing for no reason - sign of stupidity). Our smiles are sincere, not just facial expression.
@1975pagal That makes sense.....but are you really going to have "real feelings" towards a stranger? What's wrong with saying "thank you?" Come on now.....at least be respectful.
@galaxyxgamer As far as i know - we never were racist. Of course there are (though i haven`t heard anything about them in a while) skinheads, but they are few and they exist in almost every country anyway. The majority of russians are very tolerant and we coexist easily with other cultures.
There are many different people in Russia, we are a huge mix of various cultures. There is no way we could be racist.

@Durmanstainer oh she was the conductor ))
I would rather prefer having people be nice to me, than rude. And, you know, the smiles kinda goes with overall being nice :)
KriFFek 6 months ago
@KriFFek So, you prefer artificial "kindness" to real feelings? Poor product of western culture.
