I am having difficulty finding this train's route on a Portland map. I am curious why I can hear the whistle from our home near SE 82nd and Madison St., between Stark and Division. Could it really carry all the way from Oak's Bottom?
This run was down in Oak's Bottom. I think the locomotive normally resides in the old SP roundhouse at the UPRR's Brooklyn Yard. Not sure what you're hearing up along 82nd and Madison.
I agree with you what an idiot he odviouslly has no appreciation for history ...it sort of makes me wonder what Doyle Mc Cormic would say about putting down his baby so much
hell yah we all would it ould me a mass pounding there are more of us than him....this is one of the most beautifull locomotives I have had the honer of photographing and rideing and I have photographed alot of steam locos
jelakejr - The video is nice. I wish you'd kept filming to watch it leave, though. The old engines were built to fly, they look amazing when moving. :) Ignore the pest; he's the one that needs glasses, seeing as mine are up to date and perfect.
Shut up you! If you wanted me to call you else, like your real name, why are useing that as your username?! what do you want me to call you by? You kids these days have the stupidest concepts! And almost never honest either. anyways, you have used swears in this disscusion so beat it,Whippersnapper!
My final say to our wonderful spammer: But if you dislike these so much, don't go to museums where they stand proudly and get a life. You're as bad as the church, intolerant to any way except your own. You sad and unlucky soul; at least I don't need to resort to name calling when I talk. I actually learned manners. Hm, do you own one of those wonderful flags?
Here's an idea: stop watching these videos and go start a protest. We'll send you a postcard.
I want to see the steam locomotives dismantled for scrap iron and made into new products. Nor do want to pay any museum fees to preserve these old out of date wrecks!
They should have been parked, parted out, junked out, cut up, melted down and the materials used to make new products!
That is an arguable point! It is dumbasses link you that keep screwing the world by having everyone else pay to preserve these relics for your own selfish interest!
Preserving this old junk iron costs money, lots of money! Even the railroad got wise and dumped the junk!
Now, if you want to preserve it, you put your money up! I won't put a cent towards this and I urge my public officials to drop all preservation of steam locomotives.
The cutting torches are waiting! It won't be long!

These old steam locomotives are junk iron!
History belongs in books and pictures.
They should be parked, parted out, junked down, cut into pieces and melted down. The materials should be used to make new, more efficient products.
Cutting torches are the same. There is no need to preserve them. There are plenty of pictures, diagrams, and written about. There is no need to preserve the article.
The same thing for the steam locomotive. No need to preserve it. Junk it, cut it down!
Confederate battle flags are still around because people buy them. Make them, they sell! Supply and demand, dimwit!
No one is manufacturing steam locomotives. Why? They don't sell! The are inefficient, highly polluting, extraordinarily dangerous and system damaging hulks of junk iron.
Steam engines (correct term is locomotives, there sonny) do hurt people with the pollution they produce and don't inspire anything except the those who bottle oxygen for the mask respiratory patients must wear!
Clearly they inspire many more, because it's the public that donates to the preservation of these magnificent pieces of machinery, things that we could never rebuild now that we've sold ourselves out to the rest of the world. They also pollute no more than the average truck. In fact, they're cheaper when it comes to carrying cargo than the trunks - at least they don't tear our roads apart with their weight.
This relics of junk iron inspire me to campaign to have it cut up into scrap. I don't pay to maintain or operate these junkers. The rest of you fools do! Good! Spend your money on it if you wish. At least my money is not paying for it!
If they are so efficient and non-polluting, then the railroad and regulatory committees did the wrong thing by getting rid of them?
I don't think so! You are seriously a misguided individual!
Actually, I referring to the fact that preserving and running one steam engine is far less polluting than our sad little trucks. And at least we don't pay taxes to replace the highways afterward for these beautiful machines. You're paying more money for the trucks than the engine.
And at least I don't go around deliberately aggravating other people, you sad soul.
Go buy a flag, it suites you as well as your username.
The steam locomotive is far more polluting than a truck. They should be parked, junked out and melted for new products.
Truckers pay taxes to use the roadway and the taxpayer should too for they are the benificiary. As for the railroad, they pay taxes and those taxes are in the price of the service they provide, just as trucks and buses.
As for steam locomotives, they pay taxes in the use of the right of way.
@Cockroach2008 buddy the only one who is sick is you!!! you fucking pest do all of us who like these beautiful peices of american craftmanship a favor stay away from commenting on the videos of steamers you can keep your opinions to yourself just stay away from these vids of steamers ani mean it STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THESE VIDEOS LIKE YOUR NAME APPLIES YOU FUCKING COCKROACH!!!!
I don't have a car to junk! I got rid of it years ago. Now if I need one, I rent one for the amount of time I need it. (which isn't much)
So I have already done the green thing.
Now, I want to take it the rest of the way and junk the steam locomotives! They would be beautiful in pieces of scrap iron, headed into the smelter to make materials for new products.
The best way is to use thermite and set it on the steam chests. Once those are destroyed, there is no turning back! Junk iron!
man i miss her deep voice it a shame that that whistle was stolen i hope they get it back

Park it, part it, junk it out, cut it up & melt it down.
Make newer, more efficient products from it!

Then why are confederate flags still out in the south? And with that crazy attitude of yours why aren't you in the history books?
At least steam engines don't hurt anyone and instead inspire wonderful feelings. It's the better alternative.

One steam locomotive! That is not going to solve the needs of the transportation. Beautiful machines? You need glasses my friend.
Who says I am deliberately aggravating other people? You think this is a deliberate attempt to aggravate people, do you? You are so wrong!
It is my sincerest wish to see all of the steam locomotives scrapped, junked, cut down and melted so the materials can be used for new products!
Recycling is the green thing to do! So the time has come to junk them all!
