@frank12364 a dj is someone who takes requests or spins other peoples music, but if you take that music and mix it your own way your are a mixer.

You can become a producer like me someone who makes their own music from scratch or from loops and linking them together your own way making your own music from chopped loops like daft punk or prodigy. The no part of this question comes down to this simply. Mixers can create their own music, but to be able to do this you need instruments DAW's and some musical talent. Though that's one side of it at least.

producer = produces music.

dj = disc jockey, someone that plays music on the radio or in a club

incidentally, nearly all producers are djs. all djs however, are not producers. production takes a LOT more skill and knowledge and Djing. however, as art forms, there is no limit on how good you can become, so whilst simple DJing is easy, to be a master you have to be better than everyone else!

@SSdraken I would also state it is not purely down to 'more skill' when producing music. It's completely different to DJ - you have to be able to read a crowd, often play a more dance-orientated set (many producers make different styles of music to those they play out), have spontaneous energy to push a live effort forwards, and enjoy being an entertainer. It's very different to sitting in a studio with the lights out and PC on - each side requires talent or you simply won't make it
