Master Chief is a reclaimer, yet he is reclaiming the index of the fore runners, which is the reason Guilty Spark needed John-117(Master chief) to activate the Halo, because the humans are the only ones who can activate it. And Penitent Tangent said there was a single activation. The forerunner race was probably a former form of humans.
