  • and because of his baggy pants and/or huge thighs when he ran it looked like he crapped his pants. they should've made Basch the main protagonist like they originally intended to. would make sense since it would be a good way to clear his name.

  • the only character's i liked were Basch and the dudes in armor with the empire. Vaan either has baggy pants that make him look like he had huge thighs or he does have huge thighs which is very disproportionate to the rest of his body, the pig noses annoyed me, Fran and Vaan when talking sounded like they had their nose plugged and head in a plastic Tupperware bowl (i know cuz i've done that before) when talking, hated the liscense board, and the repetitive parts and backtracking. hmm what else

  • to speed it up just so i could say i beat it. 13 was so much better, in my opinion.

  • saw in a video talking about the FFX remake and someone said 7 was overrated of course i disagreed. but 12 was so overrated, just got done reading about it's reception and flabbergasted as why people loved it sooo much. i practically begged for it for christmas and got it, was soooo bored with it i stopped playing. 3 years after i thought to myself i asked for this so i'll play it just to say i played it, tried to accept it for what it was but couldn't, i used cheats

  • "just call the game something else" - best words of advice I've heard in a video about the Final Fantasy series. imo anything after FFX doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game anymore. They need to stop milking the name, cause it makes the true fans shudder.

This is also the best video I've seen about FF12. I bought the game after seeing the decent review in PSM, and I was sorely disappointed in this mediocre mess. I'm going to go play FF6.

  • This game is definitely underrated. A lot of people I talk to hated it and they hated it solely because of overdrives and gambits...two aspects of the game that you can just not use. Personally, I didn't use gambits. My support characters were set to attack my target and that's it. From there, I controlled them like I would in any other RPG and loved it. Also...how do you not love Balthier? He was awesome...and Ashe and Fran are both hot.

  • @LucidDreamz613 Funny...everywhere I go online I see people praising the hell out of FF XII. At least as much as VII. Final Fantasy VII deserves most of it's praise (even though it's not the best as many people say) whereas imo FF XII doesn't. It's a decent game, but a very disappointing FF game.

  • @j800r There's a ton of bad reviews and people who give it bad reviews always compare it to other FF's and constantly mention the FF series. For example, you say it's a very disappointing FF game, as if FF games get their own scale. FF's aren't the only rpgs out there. Xenogears, Xenosaga, Secret of Mana/Evermore, Radiata Stories, Breath of Fire series, Star Ocean, Lunar, Suikoden, etc. All series comparable to FF. FF has had bad games, this one is definitely not one of them.

  • @LucidDreamz613 You don't get it dude (no offence). This game is Final Fantasy XII. It's a Final Fantasy game, so OF COURSE it's gonna be compared to the other games in the series. As a Final Fantasy game it's very disappointing. As a stand alone game it's pretty good. I consider myself a major FF fan. I've played virtual every game in the main series (excluding XI which I don't even count) and none of them have truly disappointed me as much as this one does.

  • @j800r The point is, there are tons other other RPGs that are as good as anything from the FF series. Personally, I think FFVIII, FFIX, FFX-2, Dirge of Cerberus and Mystic Quest all sucked and from what I hear XIII as well. Yes, FF also had great games but as soon as someone says "as a FF game," their opinion is pretty worthless to me. It means they are just a FF fanboy and haven't experience much out of the scope of the series.

  • @LucidDreamz613 *facepalm*

Dude, I'm trying hard not to be rude but you are seriously slow on the point. It's FINAL FANTASY XII ffs! You're asking people to not compare a Final Fantasy game to other Final Fantasy games?? Dude, are you smoking something?! Final Fantasy XII is a decent game, it's just NOT a good FF game! That is in fact VERY important considering this is a Final Fantasy game. The FF fanboys are the ones they're catering for! It's Final Fantasy. There are expectations!

  • @j800r And you are missing the point. Final Fantasy is NOT the be all end all of RPGs. If it's good and it's a FF, it's a good FF. It can't be good and be a bad FF. It's either bad or good however you look at it. FF's aren't special. It's like saying well...Xenosaga II was a good game but it's a bad Xeno game! Does this also work for Suikoden? Shin Megumi Tensei? Any other long running rpg series? What about other genre's of games? Do you see how little sense this makes?

  • @LucidDreamz613 *facepalm* You still don't get it. I get your point completely and agree. If it was titled anything else it would be a decent game. However, it's FINAL fucking FANTASY and as a FINAL FANTASY game it is very disappointing imo. Now, if you still don't understand that and feel the need to argue I shall be forced to assume you're trolling and will therefore ignore you. My point isn't hard to understand.

  • @j800r Okay, so it's an exception specifically for Final Fantasy because the games in the Final Fantasy series apparently far surpass all other RPGs. Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Shin Megumi Tensei, the Xeno series and a few series might disagree especially if you menton Dirge of Cerberus, FFX-2 and FFXIII. My point is, the FF series isn't so great that a game can be good compared to these games and not compared to the games in the series.

  • @LucidDreamz613 That's your opinion. You don't like FF games. That's perfectly fair enough. I can't stand shooters, that doesn't mean the games suck. I just don't like them. Mass Effect bores me to tears. Again, doesn't mean it's a bad game, I just don't like it. I happen to be a fan of most of the Final Fantasy series. This game disappointed me as a Final Fantasy game. Disappointed ME, I didn't say everyone. Also, Dirge of Cerberus was a spin-off, not an actual FF game.

  • @j800r I'm a huge fan of the series, have been since I played FFI in 1988. However, I don't think it's so great that it outshines all other RPG series. There are tons of other games as good as any FF. Like I said, it's it is good compared to other RPGs, it's good compared to other FF's.

  • @LucidDreamz613 We'll agree to disagree because i'm obviously not gonna get through to you here. You have different expectations as a Final Fantasy fan. The name means nothing to you. You judge it as a standard name that could have ANY title. We shall drop it now. Don't bother responding.

  • @j800r Last response, I promise =P I think the name lost it's magic for me because I played FFXI for so long. I guess the name got worn out and I relate it to the MMO as much to the series. Hell I wasn't even in the FFXIV beta (which was literally the worst thing ever made). I think between that and how amazing some other RPGs are, I don't look up to FF as much. It definitely used to hold some magic, even had the FF3 posters when I was young and still have my 78' Masamune.

  • @LucidDreamz613 - To be honest, I don't understand most of the complaints about Final Fantasy XIII. A lot of the complaints just seem to exist for people to complain about how the game isn't as good as Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, or Final Fantasy X.

  • NO!

    Final Fantasy 7 IS OVERRATED!

    Final Fantasy 12 is UNDERRATED!

  • @TheMcmillionator true and this game has my favorite battle system in any rpg i played and i played a lot of em,a lot of pple enjoyed dragon age origins and that game is very similar to this but on a much lower scale

+ it has some of the best boss fights

  • the whole game was like one big dungeon,it was made to accomodate the gambit system that the game was built around...disgusting..building the whole game around one mechanic that wasn,t even that good.

  • I've played all final fantasies except for 5 & 13, and i'm playing this game for the first time, because a got an awesome deal on ebay for it(14 bucks new), and my god, I've had more fun with just 12 hours of this game than i've had with all the final fantasy games i've ever played. the battle system is so friggin addictive, the characters are awesome(i even like vaan), the music is amazing, the character and monster designs are amazing, the dungeons are huge. I love everything about this game.

  • @SkankinDevil89 ...are you serious? The battle system is the most boring and automated in the entire series, the music is really bland and samey, the dungeons are repetitive, and the monsters are all in useless hunting quests. I hope you are trolling me.

  • I wonder if me and this guy played the same game. FF12 To me was a push in the right direction. I bet he enjoyed the crap outta ff 13 sigh. At lest FF13 versus is taking some of the things that made ff 12 great into it.

  • @ChickenJoe331 Not everybody likes the same thing. I was majorly disappointed by XII as well yet I enjoyed XIII a great deal. FF games will never be the same since IX.

  • I'd also have to say that in all honestly, the combat system is the ONLY bit of complete originality that you can use to measure its worth. As a hardcore gamer, I've heard all the stories, I've fought a mob 1000x my size, I've played in a world that look as close to fantasy reality world, I've played in a game that looks like a 10-year olds coloring book, we hear the same sounds in totally different games, and a maze is a maze!

What makes FF a good/bad game for me, is the combat system.

  • Its a stretch to say that FF12 is overrated. Maybe in the literal sense (as in well-known game reviewers rated it too high) but in the technical sense, I find more people don't like FF12 compared to others.

My personal opinion is that FF12 was epic and should be the standard for all future FF games. The major "hook' for me was the combat. Ever since I became a die-hard FF7 fan, the combat system in each FF after was the deciding factor in whether or not I liked the game.

  • I don't think this game is overrated. I thought no one likes it so it's underrated. This game is actually really good, the feeling of trying to survive a boss fight and the feeling you have when you killed a hard boss. Yes maybe the story wasn't as catchy as older FF, and yes the music is not as memorable as older FF too. but everything went down well. I gotta say the only music I end up downloading for this FF is "Esper Battle".

  • 12 definitely doesn't suck, but it is a little frustrating to hear over and over again that the story is deep and the characters are great. The story has a fleshed out backdrop but there aren't many interesting twists, and the ones that are there aren't elaborated on really. The characters besides Balthier aren't interesting and dont evolve beyond their initial introduction. Aspects of the battle system were basic but IZJS fixed a lot of those problems.

  • I agree that FFXII is a bit overrated and very overrated in terms of story. IGN: "one of the best storylines for any genre on any system for the entire year", bullshit. But if there is something IGN knew it is that the music suck: "Musically, FF12 isn't the best in the series". But I can't see why you whine about map loading and camera. They worked for me.

  • 84 people have never played a real final fantasy before.

  • i wouldnt say vaan is emo but he's really annoying

  • 7 is overated.

  • @edge1000 true that. So overrated.

  • 1:30 +, Leaving you pissed off or us? Do not mind me. I exercise patience a bit excessively.

  • Ummm... the only reason u were angrey was cos u coulnd't figure out how to play the game. I was like, what, 7 when I started playing this and sure it wasn't easy but I could at least do it. I found nothing to stress over exept for the charactor development, which wasn't even THAT bad. So stop basing ur anger on ur dissibility to play and also stop giving FF7 credit for being an ok game with an awsome story line.

This is 1 of the most underrated games of all time!

  • @roselman1 Uhm, no. this is the worst FF of all time.

It is overrated. IGN and Gamespot were payed to review it like that.

Just look at how they rated the new command and conquer, they gave it 7.5/10 but the user reviews gave it 3.5/10. Wake up, this game sucks. Enix is lost and someone needs to bring back the original developers of the classics like Hironobou. Subscribed!

  • @777neotamakachi777 I guess u have to understand all types of games and be willing to change a little to play this then...

  • @roselman1 Whatever. 12 sucks, its a shame people are only picking up on the suckage 3 sequels too late.

  • @777neotamakachi777 Well, if nothings gonna change ur mind, fine, have it ur way. But I like it along with a lot of other fans...

  • tch >.> what and asshole...never review again.

  • i played it because i was told if i beat it i could change between vaan and reks

  • thumbs up for basch looking like kiefer sutherland

  • Plz die in a fire and nvr review again

  • X-play gave this game a 5 out of 5 and since they are notorious FF haters, I don't think it being a Final Fantasy gave it a high score.

  • this is clearly a biased review with some inaccurate facts like the loading time

u clearly aren't the gamer type cuz is the camera THAT hard to use?.

if u were playing with less then 10 fingers then i wouldnt say anything but seriously?

IGN and Gamespot is more objective in their reviews thus the better score.

  • you just underrate it its in my top 5 of best games of all time

  • too bad XIII was so many levels worse. : (

  • FFIX was amazing. In fact the whole Sakaguchi era was. I want some old-school FF back in my life.

Oh, and btw, I thought FFXII was pretty awesome. Sure, it had flaws, but you forget to mention all the great things it achieved.

  • You know what's funny is people bitch about having to resort to the map that work's fine on my copy.Sure that's a little annoying, but FFXIII got rid of that, and now that pisses people off.Because it's too linear,I just think that's very funny, because I like linear, and non linear games,I mean it don't bother me that much at all.So it's a bit shorter...

  • I'm amazed he liked anything about this game,or any FF games,I mean to young to old to skanky.I think all the complaint's are shit.Except maybe the copy paste thing, but I past the sand desert, and it was a bit long,oh,well.I think people who like leveling up,would like this, and the license system makes you have to buy weapons.Which I think was done so that if you get a great weapon you can't just use it.Because hey you have a strong weapon, but you'r character's are very weak.I loved it.

  • This review sucks

  • 2:05 are you serious!? Thats a completely standard & accepted way of doing 3rd person games. You keep one thumb on the left stick to move, and one thumb on the right stick to look around\adjust the camera. Its not fucking hard! You've got thumbs havnt you?

The map takes about 1.1 seconds to load. Chill the fuck out.

The license system is SUPPOSED to be part luck. Like a lucky dip. You never know what your gonna get. You play the cards your dealt.

All your criticisms are so anal and subjective.

  • @nomis101uk Thank you! and to add to nomis's point here, if you are unsatisfied, then make it a point to do licensing AFTER saving. that way you can have the license board the way it was before you tampered with it. If you have experienced games with excruciatingly long scenes you couldn't skip even to save your life then THIS.IS. NOTHING. also, gambit system is optional so you can always change gameplay style. license board provides flexibility if you want to change character roles later.

  • @flipcherri - "license board provides flexibility if you want to change character roles later. "

The problem is, that this ability of the license board ultimately works to further promote the communal genericness of the characters. Which is problematic according to many people since the playable characters lack any true depth so the main way to give them any sense of being unique is through their role in battle.

  • ff12 got the worst final fantasy ever monkey off his back, now that same worst final fantasy ever monkey av now jump on ff13 back, cheers ff12,ff13 now take's the worst ff ever.

  • @fmoa Talk fucking english.

  • @Lshsjdsal you must be gay..i bet you mastabate while playing ff7,,oh cloud, your so gay.

  • @fmoa I don't even like Final Fantasy :L I'm more of a Kingdom Hearts kinda guy. And oh, You must be autistic! Oh, offensive insults, makes me wana kill people, oh Jeez, your so autistic :L TIGHT ONE.

  • @fmoa Oh and you spelt Masturbate wrong :)

  • ff7 the game that raised expectation so high FF12 failed to meet ff expectations. if u played ff7 you'd agree

  • FFX is loved still to this day but ff12 had no Final Fantasy magic or character to me

  • You're reviewing the other reviews for this game, not the game itself.

  • this game was bad, but still, this is what "final fantasy XI should have been." that game was worse.,..

and ten still sucks to me, too much romance.

  • c'mon the music was GREAT and the battle system was even better than any RPG because at least this time you can move around and see your enemies they just don't pop out from dust...(like any other RPG) also map never took more than 2 seconds for me...can't say why that happened to you..but i love this games and the characters

  • FF12 lacked what made final fantasy so popular , its not a final fantasy game

  • I enjoyed everything about this game besides the battle system. Thats not because it changed and im stuck in my ways.. it just wasn't fun to me. just waiting to get the money to buy 13 because i see they changed again, and it looks kind of interesting.

  • FF7 is the best ( in my opinion!). The first time CGI was good on game systems. The battle system was short, simple, and sweet. The music was legendary, and characters were all memoral ( including Cloud and Sepiroth.), and boss fights were EPIC!

  • ff12 wasnt any good

  • Also, in the regards to the music, no memorable tracks? Really? The Boss Battle and Salikawood themes were my favorites, I even uploaded them to my iTunes.

And for the record, your complaint about repetitiveness is only applicable to only one area, which is the only area you used as an example, and that place is supposed to be a maze.

Your complaint about the map not loading quick enough is total BS too. You can even time it in the video, barely a second load time. Come on.

  • I never had any problems with the camera, and you can easily get an over-the-shoulder view of the party leader's target by holding L1 or L2.

  • you're 100% correct. :(

  • your hoping didn't work, FF13 sucked even more than this. Ah well, back to 6 and 7

  • Mos people don't like this chapter of Final Fantasy because the battle system has changed.

I rather enjoyed the game, not thinking about it as just another Final Fantasy game. It was just a fun game that dropped you in a interesting world with a good storyline behind it.

    I liked it...

  • This game was pretty lame and boring. When are you going to review the other final fantasy games?

  • so much pessimism..

  • while this is one my favorite ffs ever, i do have to agree with you on the characters and story. major let down (but the story did have some potential if the writers had just shown a little bit more of what was actually going on)

  • final fantasy 10 is the best one straight up, it's so epic! best story, characters, music, and battle system, no other ff can top it.

  • the fighting system is boring and the grid is trivial. and putting in a blank grid so you have to buy licenses to equip things is trivial not challenging. the fighting system in 7 and 10 is better to me

  • you're retarded

  • final fantasy 9 = underated and my favourite final fantasy game =] the new 13 has nothing on it, even with the new updated graphics..nothing can replace magic and great feelings you get from a gripping, fantasy story that makes you feel for the characters, instead now they put characters in..give them stories...gives them stuff, its nothing like before when the characters had original personalities that EVERYONE could relate too.

  • @heffy187 you freaking rock for putting this up here. FFIX is the greatest and i agree that it is totally underrated.

  • @heffy187 YES!! final fantasy IX kicks so much ass. its my favorite game of all time

  • dude this is more of a rant than a review. im a rpg fan and i like this game despite its flaws. not saying that all your points arent valid but i like the characters and gameplay(probably cause im and experienced rpg fan.

  • i've never played an FF game but they look very good from the game play i've seen ff 6 7 and 8 look really good to me. so does 13 out of those what do you think is the best one for a start? is 12 good?

  • @CapitanKurosaki

    I'd do nine

It's the most basic and you get a good classic Final Fanasty feel

  • I only played the game cause the spacieals and espers loked cool, and the weapons are neat. and to let the brains leak out the back of my skull. its worth playing if you are obsessed with final fantasy.

  • The only peole who think FF7 is overrated are those who are in denial

  • Never got into playing FFXII (Lest I tried it, and in the end give it away at a thift store). I just don't like their battle system, so that's why this game is my least favorite game among Final Fantasy games.

  • overrated? I find it underappreciated. I've never seen a richer expansive world with so many things to do than this game. Not to mention the writing/voice acting was by far the best I've ever seen in a game. after playing the dissapointing FF13, it just made me appreciate this game a whole lot more

  • My main problem with the game was that I just didn't care about any of the characters

  • well i'm glad i got the game for 5 bucks then lol. I mainly just got it for my collection.

  • I love this game. FF fans, most atleast gave it low scores. Game review sites and blogs etc, gave it high scores. So it's not really because it's a FF titled game. I like the gameplay and love the story and graphics. To each their own.

  • I haven't played the game yet, but awesome review. When someone reviews something I look for them to make legitimate arguments that are very common, and the points you raised like the repetitiveness being in most RPG's including this one is an example of that. And it makes me consider whether or not I want to delve in this game. Appreciate it.

  • I rather enjoyed the game, though i will admit it was a bit long, even for a final fantasy. My main beef with the game was (yes the camera during boss battles blew) the story. At no point did it attempt to link itself with Final Fantasy Tactics, even though all of the kingdoms like Ivalice and the map was the same. I thought it was a prequel (airships), but at no point was I able to judge where in relation to FFT it was set.

All that said, I did enjoy the game.

  • god i remember having this game now. I didn't even remember that it was part 12. It was PS2 right?I remember trading it back in after a few days.I was very dissappointed by the playing style they took for this one.Now that I see it again i remember it sucked ass.I remember that shitty camera.Ofcourse an FF game never completely sucks, but his one was the worst I've played out of all of them. 7 = the best one 4sure.13 is gonna be good too coming week (although linearity = problably a bad choice).

  • Comment removed

  • I find this game so boring but I cannot put it down once I start. I'm mostly in it for the side quests becuase I have a hard time understanding the story most of the time.

  • Fourth, come on! Active battle was the best thing in ff12..remember how long was it taking for the battle to commence in previous ff games?in ff x-2 it would take 2-3 seconds for the battle to start and another 4-5 seconds to celebrate victory and showing the gill and items found, why didn't you mention that?

fifth, about the copy paste, yes!I agree,Sandsea and Great crystal were examples of copy paste abusing in that game, but the cities design was brilliant!also cut scenes. Thanks for the review.

  • I'll have to disagree and agree with points here.First you said the license system sucks because it hides certain license you want..well,i think that's the idea! I mean to make games a bit harder and more mysterious not just a peanut butter sandwich!

Second you kept on about it takes long to load the main map,i think it takes from 1-2 seconds to load O_O maybe your game disk is damaged that it takes long!

Third we all know the story wasnt that intense in the game, but doesnt suck,my opinion..

  • @jitsuX That makes the license grid worse. Y should character customization b left 2 chance? If I want Basch to specialize in melee, Green, & Time but end up wasting tons of LP on bows, lite-armor & magic augments cause I don't know what I'm buying gives me the right 2 be pissed. I shouldn't need gamefaqs to build a decent Melee/buff bot. . .

  • @jitsuX. . . The license grid is never justified. We're told it exists and how 2 use it, but not why it exists. What is a license anyway, or the grid for that matter? Do Ashe & pals carry around a character sheet? Why do I need to license to wear a hat? I know FFs try to be different every time, but this is ridiculous. FF2 was broken, but it made sense: use a sword, become a better swordsmen. Use magic become a better mage. Unique characters or jobs/classes (IZJS) would have been better.

  • @Arcanavii good point, good point. But, if everything should be easy to get in a game then where is the challenge?Lets face it the purpose of every game before it's made is to get the player to be addicted on it! License grid is one of these, you need time and spear and all you have to cross bows and spend more time, same for magic, they want you to spend more time untill they build the new game.

  • @jitsuX If you like it that's fine, I'm happy for u, but I don't think that not being told what I'm buying is challenging. Imagine that everything in a supermarket is in an unlabeled package, and the signs above the isles only gave a vague idea of what is in the isle. The only way to know what the goods are is to buy all of them or end up with something that I don't want. That's a waste of my time and money.

  • @Arcanavii not at all i doubt a character walks around holding a license, but then does a character walks around killing enemies and determines how much exp he gets off every enemy? why the bats in henne mines give 3000 while the ones in lhusu give 200 exp or something?does a character determines that?it's all stuff to make the game more different than the others in the series you know what i mean?

  • @jitsuX Exp points and character/class levels have always been what makes an RPG an RPG. If a game is going to have something a little different, there should be a reason. In FF6 all but 2 character must inherit spells from Espers. Certain Espers give specific spells and you most be exposed to the Esper for some time to learn them. Magic is given a physical source and justification in FF6. The Licenses don't, so why not level "normally"? It's just a small peeve of mine

  • @Arcanavii true true ff6 did have justification for the magic bit. But come on lets agree that the main goal of each game developers is making players spend as much time as possible in front of that game,ff6 had the esper bit where you have to spend time to get magic,ff12 has the license board, ffx has the sphere grid,ffx-2 the annoying abilities list..all of them are time consuming, thats the main idea, and they have a good reason which is money i assume ..

  • Excellent review. You're very well spoken, and I honestly couldn't agree more. As you said, it wasn't a -bad- game... but it certainly was a huge let down compared to its predecessors. However, I'm surprised you didn't comment on Vaan and Penelo's positioning in the story. Was it just me, or did they have absolutely no point? I mean, really, if you took them out of the game... you'd still have an in tact FF12. Which wouldn't be so bad, if the main player character wasn't Vaan....

  • I totally agree. Vaan and Penelo had no point whatsoever, and seemed to be there just to make up the numbers. They weren't even endearing.

I'm surprised the reviewer didn't rat on the story as much as I thought he would. Surely it's just Star Wars with Vaan as Luke, Balthier as Solo, Fran as Chewie, Basch as Obi Wan and Ashe as Leia? I guess that makes Penelo R2D2. She's got about as much personality. A truly awful game.

  • hmm i think your letting your emotions over power your thinking a little. ill admit u opened my eyes to some problems with this game i hadnt thought of before. the lisence chart was a problem i think . and true when u fight the larger bosses u only see 1/3 of em because of the camera angle. but repetative enviroment? kinda seems like something u chose to be angry about. the story isnt to original. the thing is ff 12 was a bit of a reinvention of the franchise. it was good in its own respect .

  • this review was bullshit u guys r 2 big of ff fanboys and u guys r 2 busy being stuck on the old ones that u guys dnt relize that this is a good game u guys r afraid of change i thought it was the shit the story and character depth could have been better but thats all u and all the bad comments on this can shut the fuck up it was good be glad that square enix did not stop making ff games u ungrateful ff fanboys yall sum dum pussys

  • 15dodoman, wow, ive never heard so much raw shit shoot out of someones mouth in such a short space of time. so fanboys are afraid of change? let me correct u, fanboys are afraid of SHIT GAMES! ff12 was a bland, boring, souless piece of shit with no depth or substance whatsoever! (and i love how u call us 'dumb' when you use phrases such as 'yall' lol! u fuckin degenerate redneck wankstain!)

  • first of all u gay ass little fanboy im not even white i say yall because its easier then saying you all and wow that was all u saw in my comment now i can tell u know im right ur jus a little faggot complaining about a good ff game this was my third ff game i played and was good so listen bitch DEAL WITH IT u complain like a little pussy about how bad it was grow up lil bitch if u dnt like it to bad faggot it has already been made and if u cant handle it which i kno u cnt mak ur own ff game ass

  • I think almost all FF games are terrible and overated. This one had nice CGI cutscene videos and maybe some okay environments...thats it and it cost over $100.

  • My Top 5 Final Fantasy

1.Final Fantasy VII " finished this masterpiece 13 times "

2.Final Fantasy IX " i like the art style "

    3.Final Fantasy VI " KEFKA > Sephiroth "

    4.Final Fantasy 13 " Japan Import "

5.Final Fantasy IV " Cecil and Kain FTW "

  • Fantastic review and I love the APC you got playing in the background there. I bought this game along with its strategy guide when it first was released in North America... and I felt the same emotions as you; angry, bored and frustrated. So many little flaws, and plenty of big ones, too. It felt like I was playing an offline MMORPG. My friend wanted it, so I traded it and the guide for her version of FFX-2... yeah, I disliked it that much. (Though, the combat system in FFX-2 is pretty good.)

  • this game was overated, I wish it had better music, more original characters that you can adapt too and want to learn their story like Cloud, Squall and Zidane. My favourite final fantasy has always been 9, I feel it's underated completely ignored when people talk about the best final fantasy games. For me the best was the winning streak of 6 7 8 and 9, 10 being great but just slightly not as good as the classics.

  • Great Review. I agree with everything you said. As a long time Final Fantasy fan, this is by far the worst FF in the series. This is the only FF game that I've sold back after I finished it. (I still have all the other FF's a part of my collection). FF XII has no memorable scenes, an average sound track, characters are dull (except Baltheir), and the story is boring, which gives this game no replay value.

  • fuck it I dont really like the game...too low xp drawn from enemies, too slow level-up and license grid is a joke.....FFVII & FFX RULES!

P.S. gambit is sometimes useless, world map is too big and storyline is little boring, it isn't a bad game it's just not my type of the game........

  • i kinda like this game there are flaws of course i don't give a fuck about the story in every video game except legacy of kain but it was good but not better then ff 14 6 ( i also like 5 alot )

  • ff is dead since the tenth

  • @real1abcda 12 and 13 > 9

  • Weapon licenses are easy since you get tons of points anyway you can max it out pretty early on.

Camera can be set to "current enemy" so that's a non-issue.

Still, you're dead-on. The game was bland and sterile. There's no interest in the back-story, and I could care less about some abstract 3 nations war. So divorced am I from that I didn't even know what was going on as a back-story for quite some time playing. The active battle system was the worst ever made. I agree, OVERRATED!

  • gotta say, though that the joke about Vin Diesel was pretty good xD

  • I love the battle system and overall the gameplay was awsome. But the story was boring as hell for the FF game. Crisis core and VII rules!

  • ROFL the description says your a big final fantasy game.

  • I am a big FF too, this game is so good i can just jump into this game and be in it!

  • You can play as a fat character with your wooden gay sword wolf.

  • -_- don't you like that game then?!

  • This is the worst version on FF. I agree with everyone else. This is like the worst FF.

  • I have it, and i think it's good!

  • You must be blind to think its good.

  • lol. Thanks!

  • your review sucks.ok i understand that everybody has his opinion but there are some criteria that you cannot surpass just because you want a youtube video.delete it.

  • W.T.F???where is the licence for the bronze mace????find it you noooooob.you are all jerks.FFXII is easily in the top 3 FF games ever, containing FFVII,FFX,FFXII.i ve just read enough bullshit for the rest of my life:"no variety of colors","not a good story","poor character development".hey i got your problem.you are used to be given to eat right?you ve never eaten alone.that could be the only explanation to:pathways locked, map locked.REPETITIVE?OK fuck it.you are the 1st person ever to say that.

  • FFXII is the sexually-confused cousin of the Final Fantasy series. It can't decide whether it wants to cater to hardcore FF fanatics, or newbie casual gamers looking for pretty pictures.

Your point about the huge levels is totally spot on, and some areas (Nabreus Deadlands, Ozmone Plain, etc.) look like ass and are covered with jaggies.

It was also too long (like 150-200hrs), probably to compensate for the trite "Empire vs. Everybody Else" storyline that plagues so many other JRPGs.

  • finally, someone who thinks the same! I am a big FF fan, but 12 was just not up to paR! Hope 13 will rock my socks off!

  • "Trigger happy with copy and paste". lol. I never looked at it from that perspective, but it fits so well. I think another issue was that some of the levels were huge but there was not a lot to do in them. That made it feel like some of the quests just dragged on even for those that weren't too difficult.

Like you said, it wasn't really a bad game, but it really was overated. The lack of color was what really killed it for me. It just made everything seem lifeless.

  • I had most of the problems you had with FFXII. If you decide to go more indepth in another review, you could focus on character development (which was very very poor and I find it the biggest flaw of the game). I wouldn't say it's really overrated though. Critics might be giving it high scores, but most of the fans hate it...

  • it didnt tell enough story

  • FF12 is the worst FF ever, even if it's not a bad game overall. It was Square-Enix attempt to "westernize" this J-RPG by focusing on making it open-world. All the FFs had sidequests but in FF12 they are a necessity since the game require a lot of grinding.

  • its good but not great the gameplay is still the best just lack a solid story to wrap the main characters around it thats is all

  • What is it that I do not care about when I say FFXII is an outstanding?

  • awesome review man 5 stars... finally some sense thank you.. im also hoping ff13 will be good so far it seems cool..

  • FF7 only gets its reputation because of the story

  • LOL. no it's get's it from fun gameplay.

  • And because it was many of people's first RPG. It's story isn't even all that memorable. FFVI had an amazing story. FFVII was cumbersome.

  • I have to disagree. FF7 was my first RPG, and it opened me up to the rest of the series. While I have played and re-played FF7 consistently for the past 12 years, I've only touched the Anthology a couple of times. FF6 was not memorable to me at all, but I gave it a shot because it is so well-liked. 7 was complicated, but that's what made it unique. You actually had to think and that's been lacking in many RPGs before and since....

  • i liked this game and yes i did finish it

  • I think you didn't understand the plot at all. There was much more that a nation caught between two empires. I'm not gonna even start talking about the music, because it's all about personal tastes. I find FFXII's music to be way better than any piece of Uematsu's music, that's pretty much all I can say.

  • This was what many people's reactions were as well.

  • I whole heartedly agree. The music was much more complicated and along the lines of neo-classical. Most people, however, like simple melodies that repeat over and over. Uematsu may have been the so-called Mozart but Sakimoto, Iwata, and Matsuo, are the unsung heroes of their genre. Music is to taste and I, personally, feel the triad of composers offered a more complicated world for FFXII.

  • wonder what made people like ff 7? Tifa's big boobs or Sephiroth's long hair or the big sword syndrome? Or the overly convoluted story that had to be sorted out in a ongoing compilation?

if Uematsu was so great why wasn't his music good in 12? he did the main theme for this game , just so you know...

  • Uematsu did not compose most of the music in XII.

  • he did the main theme. If all the music songs that means the main theme sucks as well and therefor Uematsu sucks as a composer.

  • why would this game should be the same like others final fantays games than it should be called final fantasy VII-2 or final fantasy X-3 it is a new and original and as far as the license board it is so cool maybe this retarded guy did not understand it he should be playing final fantasy I and II , I love the game and waiting for the new ones FFXIII, agito ,versus and the one that is going to be huge FFXIV I give 9 out of 10 most reviewers think the same

  • did you go to school? how do you spell OVERRATED?. what an "epic flaw" for a guy who speaks English.

  • fuck ya, of corse it good becuse theres a hot bunny chick!

  • I think this guy has it the wrong way around. He thinks its overrated simply because its a final fantasy game bu i actually think that, as a game in general, its great, but it doesnt live up to its final fantasy name. It just didnt feel like a final fantasy game - simply an rpg. Play ff7-10 or previous and its not quite the same. Oh and this game comes no where close to ff7, despite obvious graphical superiority. FF8 and 10 were the second best two games with ff6 was also great.

  • FF7 was awesome. The storyline in that game was awesome for its time.

    Who doesnt love ff7?

  • There are a lot of people who dislike FF7. FF7 is known for being overrated.

  • Final Fantasy VII is overrated.

  • FFVII is overrated for a few reasons. The old school FF fans found it too much a diversion from the traditional FF games. Others, like thekoolestguy said, knock it because it is popular. Others (like myself) knock it because they find the story to be cumbersome and convoluted. Others, still, criticize the characters, particularly Cloud and Sephiroth, as whiny and without real motivation. Lastly, I think all FFVII haters criticize the relentless FFVII campaign and its overzealous fans.

  • @Mynameis708 no kidding ff 7 is even more overrated than 12 so does this guy even know wat he is talking about

  • @Mynameis708 ffvii is stil very amazing but does get the title of best ff game, which i think that title goes too ff10

  • all the Enix fans must like this game but square soft is where its at, screw star ocean it blows or at least the first one does

  • im with you i hate this game i cant even play it anymore its so boring.. it has it fun moments but i dont enjoy the combat system. I guess im more of a turn based player stuff like ff7 and ff10

  • wow you picked the most stupid and little things to complain about... you know which final fantasy game is overrated- FF VII I couldn't even finish that game cuz it got so boring. Final fantasy 12 was huge first of all, it had a flawless battle system, and if you are too stupid to control a camera then just give up gaming, it's just like any other 3D camera out there. Next time you should actually give real reasons for disliking a game not just because a character is "too old"

  • for your turn and stuff and i dont like those kind of rpgs for example i like how they made dragon quest (the last one on the ps2 wich i dont have i only have seen walkthrughs of it)i liked how they made it but i just hate the combat and this game FINAL FANTASY XII game me a chanse to expirience a final fantasy game its not at all repetetive and its a great RPG! BUY THIS GAME! ITS WORTH TEN TIMES FOR THOSE RPG GAMERS LIKE ME WHO DONT LIKE TE COMBAT SYSTEM OF THE FIRST GAMES LIKE FF7 FF10,BUY IT!

  • MAN!i love this game it is the best rpg i have ever played because i only have 3! but i love it the combat system can get you killed but you can ride a cocobo thingiy and the licnce made me very comftible of what to choose wepons and i dont hate w8nig even you would think its a biggy if you had my ps2! the only thing i want is to play a good game with good grafics and good combat and spells and stuff it rocks!maybe i am saying tyhis because i dont like to other combat systems where you had to w8
