'Avoid the ground.' I melted my brain playing this obsessively - still have flashbacks to those chunky landscapes. *That's* real gameplay ... :: bzzzzt, thud ::
Oh for fuck sakes you MORONS with your fucking HOLY OMNIPOTENT SNES!! As sjit as both Cybermorph and the Jaguar were there's no way in the World the SNES could pull off graphics like these even with 10 of the overpraised FX chips stuck in the cartridge! SNES fanboys are just as bad as the ardent Jag defenders if not worse! "OH but it had the FX chip and did Mode 7!", Well FUCK YOU! NO, the SNES wasn't capable of doing EVERYTHING, you idiots!
Ah good old Cybermorph this came as a pack in along with tempest 2000 when I bought my Jag in 1996. I popped it in and was blown away, great full 3D graphics, a decent framerate, some nice lighting and shading fx and HUGE worlds to explore. Starfox on SNES was impressive but compared to Cybermorph it didn´t make it for me. SF had a lack of freedom in gameplay and the polygons used weren´t that impressive compared to CM. This makes me wanna buy a Jag again!
If your last statement is meant to imply that 2D is inherently better-looking than 3D,isn't the very fact that Cybermorph is 3D a problem?
You're talking as though a 3D-lover had no choice but to buy Cybermorph, when he could get Star Fox and just wait a year or so for when good-looking 3D games are common. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Jag didn't get any more 3D games for like half a year anyway.
I thought I was clear -- I said that you're comparing graphics of 2D games to those of brand new 3D ones.
Go re-read what I said. And in comparing 2D to 3D, it doesn't make any sense, because they were completely different technologies. 3D was new and untapped whereas 2D had been in the mainstream and had plenty of artists able to do amazing things with it.
Wow. Having this as its killer launch title must be one of the main reasons the Jaguar failed.
The graphics are bland and just not pleasing to look at. No music to add color to the dull sounds. Everything the green face says is thoroughly unhelpful, from "good work" through "Where did you learn to fly?"
Worst of all is gameplay. All you do is fly around picking up little pods, shooting enemies once in a blue moon? Huge yawn.
Thanks for the vid. It's nice to get a look at the bad Jag games too.
Sorry,I played more than a few games back in 1990-93,and contrary to your implication, not everything back then was graphically bland. In fact, nearly everything was colorful and lively in comparison to Cybermorph. Take a look at the Mega Man and Mario games on NES,the Bonk games on TG-16,or Star Fox on SNES,just to name a few.
And "everyone thought Cybermorph was amazing"? Not according to Atari Age. Or AVGN. Or either of my acquaintances who remember the game's release.
AVGN? You're talking about the review done just a couple months ago? Again, that's from a 2009 point of view, obviously. Same with AtariAge -- we're talking YEARS after the initial release.
I remember exactly what was going on back in '93 when the Jaguar was released to limited cities and then broader in '94.
Cybermorph was a leap above anything else with the free-roaming ability.
I don't remember saying everything was graphically bland in 93. You're putting words in my mouth. I said Cybermorph was a cut above the rest and it was. You may think it looks bland, but if you'd rather stay in 2D land, then by all means.
Everyone I met as well as my friends thought Cybermorph looked incredibly advanced and cool when it was released.
1.Describing historical recounts of what gamers and reviewers thought in '93 as being "from a 2009 point of view" doesn't make sense. The only point of view in a historical recount is the one from that era.
2.Assuming it made sense, then the same principle applies to you. You're in 09,so you're obviously talking from a 2009 point of view.
You're being disingenuous. I said the graphics are bland, and you said it only looks that way by '09 standards. The basis for your statement is obvious.
No, you mentioned AVGN. They're review was this year.
Speaking about people who actually remember playing it back when it came out -- most people claim it was an advanced game... back then.
What I'm saying is BACK THEN it was advanced and no, the graphics weren't considered bland -- it was just a new way to do things. Star Fox was the same way.
Looking at it through the eyes of today, yeah, it looks bland.
Too many people have let modern games infect the way they look at classic games. I'm not saying you are one of these as you obviously enjoy classic gaming as do I.
I imagine we'll simply have to agree to disagree on Cybermorph. I still think it's an amazing shooter, even if it's not fast-paced.
It's obvious you didn't play Cybermorph at all. In later leves there are never seen before Guard Shading effect which takes people down in the time of release. Even today it's still incredible how fast is the graphics with all these effects.
Not to mentionet that Cybermorph is doing 60 fps all the time and Star Fox with additional HW and pre-counting path 20-30 if you get luck.
Are you talking to viMaster or me? If you're talking to viMaster, kindly explain why he would invent this whole story about getting a Jaguar at launch and Cybermorph being a favorite game of his back then.
If you're talking to me: No freakin duh I haven't played Cybermorph. If I had,why would I be looking up sample videos of it?
Almost certainly the reason Cybermorph does 60 fps is because it has so little on the screen at a time. Starfox has heavier action, and it's not like 20-30 fps is bad.
Sure you obviously did not play Starfox too. And yes the frame rate of Starfox is bad. And if you're meaning by heavier action 2 flat boxes and 2 ships (which all together are not even true polygons) then you should at least watch some videos of it.
I don't need to watch videos of Starfox. A friend of a friend had it back in the day, so I actually saw it played several times.
And wow, "yes the frame rate of Starfox is bad" and "2 flat boxes and 2 ships", LOL. And you're saying _I'm_ the one who obviously did not play Starfox? Seriously, if you have to lie about a game's contemporaries to make it look any good, that's sad.
That green face is somehow annoying and hilarious at the same time. I'm going to go around saying, "where did YOU learn to fly?" and "OUch" all the time now. It's also kind of distracting, if it pesters you every time you touch something.
shit man, how do you deal with those popups? Everything in this game looks bland. And does it say that everytime you hit something? Seriously, there were games on the snes that were nicer then this, let alone what sega had. a quarter the bits but 4 times more appealing to the eye
Right now I don't really have much idea of what I'm doing in this game, and the bad framerate (I have the PAL version, the game looks a bit smoother in this video) and draw distance don't help... but I'll give it a chance. =)
Haha, you know I never found her annoying though... I thought she added to the atmosphere of the game. Plus she's pretty darn cute in a Sinead O'Connor kind of way. ;) I thought the game was pretty cool when I first got it. The only thing I didn't like was that it was difficult, and I have no patience... I did manage to make it as far as level 3 or 4, I can't remember.
Looks like you have a later version of this game. Mine had a (c)1993 date on the title screen. I thought this game was dull until I learned how to play it. After that,I couldn't put it down. It's actually one of Jaguar's better games. Great vid.

Sorry, but you're dead wrong.
You're looking at the game through 2009 eyes.
When it was released as a launch title, there was nothing truly like it.
Since you're using these "2009 eyes," I'm guessing you aren't old enough to remember the Jag's launch. Everyone thought Cybermorph was amazing.

Why would anyone be so retarded and compare a 1993 game to new games?
If you're talking about games back in those days, this was an amazing showcase in graphics.
viMasterJag 2 years ago
A 64 bit console should do better then that
Exxxtremeguy 2 years ago
It's all relative, my friend.
a 64-bit console in 1993 is going to be way different than a 64-bit console 5 years later.
Anyone who knows anything about technology and computers knows that 5 years in computer years is a LOT of time.
It's unfortunate many people don't think with their heads these days.
