Learn this is Pirixios dance (xoρος της φωτιας).Pirixios is war dance and dancing with weapons.ARISTOFANIS (450 bc - 388bc) says This was army dance and dancing with weapons.PLATON (427-347bc) says Was a war dance with defence phase and attack phase.OMHROS says that was the most important dance ever.Pirixios after years take the name SERRA because dancing mostly at Trapezountas river Serra.

  • "Pitchiak-oin" Is this is in pontian, can someone translate this into English please?

  • laz are relative people to Georgians they speak South-Caucasian language this culture is Colchis culture Greeks came there later anyways Georgia+Greek= Great orthodox

  • PATRIDAM........

  • the oldest dance in the world, goes back to the years of Dionysos the conquer of Asia , and the closest languege to ancient Greek .

  • the Greeks must be proud of their POntian brothers...the Pontians are the most original Greeks...fullstop!

  • The people who believe thatPontians are not greeks must read history.Viva Hellas and Pontos

  • Yeah, cement, whatever, cowboy...

  • Hey, he's just saying the guy looks Georgian. There's obviously gonna be some similarities in apearences with people neighboring groups.

  • NA ZHSOUN OI PONTIOI....

  • Very nice the shared culture of Laz and Greek Pontiakos. Laz are original people of Colchis and relatives of Georgians . the place where Argonauts went to Golden fleece

  • C'est une danse extraordinaire! :D

Are there any more clips from this concert?

  • Yep, they are posted!

  • Excellent! :D

  • to be greek is not 100% to be orthodox it is an art of life or lifestyle, being free in your mind,to be civilized,to be human...you can believe in what you want but if you say "iam greek" you feel it in your heart and soul...for me an greek has to protect the weak(children,minorities.....)my grandfather in second world war risk his own life and of his family to save an jewish boy which was hidden in the basement, the SS lieutenant didnt found the jewishboy_and he escaped with his family to Spain.

  • Pontians, Lazikans, Ajarians, ancient Christian communities that were submerged in Ottoman invasion for centuries. Very few Christins remain in these areas.

  • you know that your forefathers in Kolchis believe in the 12 gods to Titan and Pontos and Tigris.thats right this dance is 4000years old maybe older....this has nothing to do with religion or politics.if someone ask me:yes iam greek-orthodox but i dont kill someone cause of having another religion.this is the difference betwenn the turks and greeks.the greek church never force an moslem or an catholic to change his confession..thats freedom, everyone can be proud of being born as human(turk, greek)

  • Religion doesnot show nationality. And Greeks have made the mistake to call all not christians Turks.Did the Turks really take over Konst/pol.There were more Greeks outside trying to get in, then inside defending it.

  • en sodlaki bıyıklı amca süpersin.. omuzlar süper..

  • ti les re guptanicky??? akriwos etsi. otan oi ellines xoreuan pontiaka eseis isastan akoma sta wathoi tis asias

  • it is said that then Jason went to beat the dragon,a godness gave him a arm to put on and every time that the dragon throw him fire (pyr)he had to move his body (like are do in the dance)in order to take out the fire. that s cause this dance is called pirihion. pir means firee y rihion menas throw ,take out.the leggend tha became dance and greek origin of blak sea people!

  • neither Turkish neither Greek if you want the Truch Georgian Kolxis from lazika

  • Looks great! :) Keep up the good work.

  • pontion for live

    pontion is greek

  • this is turkish folkloric dancing comes from the central asia.

    not any greek game

greeks just have taken it from turks. coz they lived in turkey for some times. thats why!!!

  • That sounds good, if I were ignorant and just believed anything!! Have you not seen the "endless" Greek Orth Churches and Monastery's in the region (Karadeniz)? if their were more Turks as you say were are the Mosques? Hmmm intresting something for you to think about!! Kardashim!

  • Interesting to bring up religion like that my Pontian brother, but you should know better that this dance is over 4000 years old. Even older than Christianity.

  • so show the same dance from central asia!!!

  • some time????do you have schools in Turkey?do you learn anything else than propaganda? come on this site is being viewed by many people..try not to embarass yourself that much by your ignorance!

  • Reply for darky1978. Talking about ignorance. I live in Holland, and history lessons here are determined by C.A.N.O.N. (a set of rules made by the goverment about what should be tought in history classes). We all know that politicians are not historians. This makes the history classes subjective not objective as it should be.

  • @guptanicky This is ancient Spartan war dance. it kept Pontian Greeks. In those days there were no Turks. they have not got out of the caves.

  • @guptanicky just to make a bit wider your area of knowledge in ancient greek history. This dance was danced by Achillies at the funeral of Patroclus where he burned his body to honor him. Also where it took its name. Fire=Πυρ (Pirixios) Also found in sayings of Homer and Xenophon(I guess you know about them).

  • This is simple copy of Georgian black sea dance Horumi ours is much better..but Greeks are our christian brothers

  • Horumi, Horon, Horos

  • These Pontic dances are described by the ancient Greeks like General Xenophon when he came into contact with Pontian Greeks in the Black Sea region during the 4th century BC. Ancient Greek dances like Pyrecheios/Pyrrhic/Korybantes were danced to the beat of drums and other instruments with the rhythmic stamping of their feet are found in many ancient Greek writings including the famous myth about Zeus birth.
