  • The only man doyle brunson was scared of

  • chip sounds like he could be CEO of any company. It wouldn't matter if business was shady or the most productive and legit one. He is the1 guy who would keep it together when things are going bad on a team when other teamates are losing composure.

  • He's too articulate to be a professional poker player. Matusow and Hellmuth sound like they'd be driving a taxi if they weren't poker players.

  • The best player ever, period.

  • Thumbs up if you consider what the 2nd clip was about as "your sickness"

  • Did you any of you notice that he's maybe the only GREAT poker player that won't shuffle chips that are in front of him when he's conducting an interview? I'm shuffling chips just looking at all of them in front of him..

  • great read on Gus and Ivey

  • I just learned that he is from my hometown of Centerville, Ohio. He seemed like a class act.

  • awesome!

  • the thing about chip reese is that he was so humble despite all his wonderful achievements

  • one word... inspiring. RIP CHIP

  • didn't chip write a book? a poker book?

  • @ojvyll no, he wrote a book on ballet. He did not write a book lol.

  • @UndercoverLdn Ur a peice of shit bitch

  • peace. lot of respect!

  • Chip Reese vs Phil Ivey HU?!? I would love to see that..possible passing of the touch!

  • The HORSE heads up against Bloch was one of the most exciting matches I can remember. R.I.P. Chip.

  • Im fired up

  • Sympathetic guy. Probably one of the most underrated poker players. You never see him appear in top 10's of 'best poker players', yet most of the pros consider him to be the best cash/overall poker player who ever lived.

  • Yup. Consider this: Doyle says he never once saw Chip raise his voice in anger to an opponent. He was a total class act, extremely intelligent (Dartmouth grad, got into Stanford Law), fiercely competitive, generous to a fault (he would loan out money to lower level players all the time). If you're a poker player, he is someone to emulate!!

  • you def see him in top 10 lists ask any of them top guys they all say it he used to not get respect but after he died i think people started 2 rep him hard

  • under rated poker player?? When? how? By WHO?? While Chip Reese (R.I.P.) was alive he was considered the best poker player in the entire world. Even Doyle Brunson, the Godfather considered him the greatest. I have never heard anyone ever who would dispute that fact or say a bad word about him. A true class act and a LEGEND for all times

  • @Rvd420WHAT: The televised tournament poker boom has made overnight legends out of lots of guys to the detriment of guys who didn't get their faces on TV playing tournaments. Many tournament pros ONLY play tournaments and so think of great players in that arena only. Sadly, this has influenced the non-playing public into believing that, say, Hellmuth is the "world's greatest poker player," while the cash game pros know him as the greatest one-trick pony ever. The educated know Chip was king!

  • You are correct sir. hil Hellmuth is by far the most successful no limit holdem tournament player ever. As nice as that is to be, that is all he is. He cant play mixed games nor cash games withlongterm success. Chip Reese was by far the greatest overall poker player of the 20th century. When a player shuns the tournament scene because the cash games are so big and juicy and it much less time, you KNOW that he is a real players player. Only fitting he took down the big horse game before he passed

  • @Rvd420WHAT It's hilarious to watch High Stakes Poker & watch Phil spend so much time & energy trying to show the cash pros that he can win playing really bad cards. Other guys @ that table do it (Negreaneu, Farha) but THEY read the other great players really well and can get away from a hand when beat. Hellmuth--tho also the victim of some bad luck on that show--consistently fails 2 figure out what's going on until too late. He's great @ outplaying bad players in the tournament setting though.

  • I agree whole heartedly. However I personally feel that this discussion about the egomaniac driven crybaby has no place on the post featuring the Legend that is Chip Reese. there is no comparision. Chip OWNED all

  • @Rvd420WHAT: Amen!

  • @dantean Uhh show me a video where hellmuth states "hey im going to play garbage and win" I dont think any poker player on that show tells themself or the camera that they are going to play "really bad cards" and win! They think hey im going to play my position against these loose players. Big difference.

  • To me David "Chip" Reese didn't say much before because I'm from Europe and what they do there in Vegas doesn't really gets us down here that much.. but I kinda feel strong respect towards this man! Maybe because I watched it a movie called Yonkers Joe and at the end of that movie it was written - In Loving Memory - David "Chip" Reese..

After listening to this interview I can honestly say that my respect towards him has increased upwards! Good example for all the youngsters yet to be pros ;)

  • a true legend, R.I.P Chip

  • A true gentlemen. R.I.P.

  • thanks chip, just moved to vegas . Great minds think alike

  • he died?? why?

  • why??? what a stupid question is that u dumb shit

  • Why did he die, GOD WANTED TO PLAY HIM

  • or maybe GOD just wanted lessons from the best. R.I.P. Chip. Poker misses you!

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P CHIP

  • He died? How? =o

  • Great Post. Thank You!

  • hustlin early LOL

  • GreatPokerPlayer:)

    R.I.P ChipReese:(

  • Any body seen that tv show "The deadliest catch"

i think kapt. Sig Hansen is Chip Reese's long lost brother..- they look so alike..

  • I agree! And I bet Sig could be a good poker player. He has the mentality for it

  • Regarded by the best in the world as the best in the world. Gone too soon, but remembered forever.

  • the best! feel it

  • i like this guy so much even if i dont know much about him.

  • Brilliant player and a consummate gentleman. Pure class. RIP.

  • Stu Ungar the best

  • how old are u baby

  • stu ungar died broke and with nothign to give to his family.

chip beat the biggest games for 30 years and elevated his life style, income and provided for his family.

thats what poker is about not winning a tournament or or winning a lot of money then going bust.

  • you jackass are we talking about the better man or the better player or the better banker? 1 chip best all around player stuey best no limit you be the judge as to whats more profitable.. 2 chip idk about how he lived his life he was prolly a good dude but idk stuey was a bastard at the card table but that was his strategy.. away from the table he was one of the most generous with his money.. as for going broke chip said he went broke 3 or 4 so idk stuey didnt play for money or fun it was both

  • The most financialy successful player, and probably the greatest all round player that ever lived. Too bad there are very few videos online of him kicking ass.

    R.I.P the greatest

  • Thats cause he rarely played tournaments so the avg. poker fan didn't know who he was.

  • Greatest all around poker player in the world.

  • rip

  • Chip Reese: the best high stakes 7-stud player who ever lived.

  • what happen to chip, i mean how did he die?

  • he apparently died from sime kind of heart failure in his sleep, at least it was a peaceful death

    R.I.P. Chip!

  • He die pacefull in he bedroom cause of heart atack!!!! He went to bed the night before and his wife found him die...is all, he was my favorite poker player he and Doyle Bunson...

  • Words of wisdom Chip, thanks...RIP

  • GREAT PLAYER! REST IN PEACE, CHIP.

  • Va te faire foutre pede

  • The best cash game player.RIP Chip.

  • RIP Chip

  • Tnx Chip..

  • food for thought... people who sit on there asses for most there lives end up having a heart attack...you have to excercise...r.i.p chip

  • I would have to believe that part of the reason of his heart attack was probably from his poker life. The cause of death is not certain which is a little shaddy but from what the pro's say it was his heart since he had heart surgery not to long ago. All u can do is feel for his family. Forget poker just pray for his family.

  • I heard that it might have been a blood clot. Doyle and Chip both had bariatric surgery and were told that there was a greater chance of blood clots forming from the surgery.

  • what happen to chip, i mean how did he die?

  • poker god

  • rip chip

  • what a ledgend RIP

  • Great guy. RIP

  • The man was a class act. RIP

  • Best ever all the pros say even Doyle RIP 56 wow!

  • An awesome player and an even better human being. He shunned the spotlight, but the spotlight always shone on him when he walked in a room. Even in the often cynical and egotistical world of poker, true greatness is readily recognized...

  • he has "IT"

  • R.I.P Chip, absolute class

  • R.I.P Chip We Will Never Forget You

  • I Loved watching you. I hope you can win 30 pieces of silver from someone named judas!!!!!

    Respectfully, We'll see ya later.

  • Actually, his 'Poker Face' was so good that they didn't know he was actually dead for several hours.

  • RIP you will be missed without a doubt

  • i was hoping it was just a very bad hoax someone came up with... i guess it is true - RIP David

  • RIP Chip

  • Rest In Peace Chip, May God watch over your family.

  • RIP from Scotland mate.

  • Rest In Peace

  • rest in peace, buddy! Chip Reese, the greatest ever.

  • "Chip" Reese R.I.P

    your legacy will live forever.

  • I bet you Chip is playing a high stakes game of mixed poker with people like Johnny Moss and Stu Ungar in heaven as we speak.

    David "Chip" Reese

    1951 - 2007

One of the best poker players, period.

  • Hehehe. True that. Bet Chip is beating Stu's ass.

  • why do you need to say that he is playing poker at heaven?

He is just resting in peace finally, thats good enough.

  • Rest in Peace !

  • I met Chip when we were 7 & 6 years old. BFF- baseball, football, golf, cards, board games, same college, sharing joys/losses. He best at gin,Stratego,Chess,Backgammon,Spades,Hearts, Bridge,Euchre,Pinnocle,Fish. He ran a kids casino out of his garage on Brandwynne Ct. when his teacher-mother Sunny had in-service meetings. Smartest thing I ever did was to stop playing him for money when we were 11. He was one in a million, a true winner. MM CHS 70, DC 74

  • I was so shocked when I heard from his death. Rest in peace

  • Rip Chip

    :(

  • RIP

  • RIp Chip Reese

  • Also, here's what Doyle said about Chip: "Chip Reese has always given me more trouble than anybody. He's the only player that I have any apprehension about playing with. He's always held over me... I don't know... he just outplays me. I've played tight against him, I've played liberally, but no matter what I do it just seems like he beats me. It's gone on a long time so, consequently, I think he's the best player all around."

  • tomkier3,

Stu played in WSOPs where there are 90 donks and 10 good players. In tournaments, as the blinds go up, luck also plays a big role. Chip's been playing cash games where the blinds stay same and skill plays a bigger role. He won consistently in the big game against the BEST players for 20 years!

  • hi the man have the best interview telling told the true

  • Chip Reese or Stu Unger? I'll go with Stu. Stu is the best card player EVER. It's not even debatable.

  • Wow, I had just come out of a losing session at the tables. Not much, but I lost my winnings for the day and felt pretty bad that I gave up what I had waited patiently to gain. Then I watch this video and, hey, wow! Gave me back some confidence. Adversity, just take it! You know, sometimes at the tables the pressure really builds up, no matter what the stakes. Thanks for posting.

    :o)

  • i read that he was one of the players that Andy Beal dominated in the famous heads up match so is he really the best?

  • Andy Beal???? Puh-lease!!!! Every dog has his day, yeah? ; )

  • Yes, he is. Andy Beal is a one-trick pony. He can play LIMIT hold 'em very well, and only heads-up. Chip Reese is in the top 100-200 players in the world in -every single form of poker there is-. Heads-up limit hold 'em also is the game with the most -variance- (short-term luck) of any form of poker, so the fact that Beal had even a few-week winning streak over Chip means nothing.

  • very wise advices. thanks alot

  • all true brother

  • Great insight from the greatest poker player of all time. Nice post.

  • I have to agree. The fact that TV-poker exploded after Moneymaker won the Main Event shouldn't overshadow the fact that Chip Reese is probably the best overall player of all.He was good in the 80's or whatever (or at his best?) but the fact that he won the HORSE event last year speaks volumes!

  • Not to mention that he is not even a tournament specialist. He has won almost all of his money in -cash games-. There are many better hold 'em tournament players than Chip, but exactly zero who have ever been better in mixed cash games. Most real poker players now consider $50,000 HORSE to be the real World Championship, so as far as I'm concerned he's the tournament World Champ now too. Screw Jamie Gold. It's a joke to even mention him in the same paragraph as Chip Reese.

  • actually chip was really lucky to win that 50k HORSE he sucked out on andy block like 3 times when andy had it in the bag he is still amazing but damn did he get lucky

  • Sure, but did you see Reese at that table? He was very fatigue. He simply ran out of stamina and decided to gamble. It was probably the best chance he had at that point.

  • what about leading to heads up play? did you see reese destroy the top players int he worl? he's playing with 1 card at one point not even looking if he has Ace rag just the Ace is good enough to take pos fromt he best in the world.

Heads up can be about sucking out....you get a cold deck heads up and the other player seems to be getting a better run of cards making the plays chip made is probably the only way you'll win.

  • One cold deck can end a heads-up match...but the definition of a "cold deck" depends a LOT on who is playing.

If you put two 6's on the board, and one guy has 63 in the whole and the other K6...most people would consider that a cold deck and go broke. But a lot of pro's could probably get away from it.

Another example is, of course, Doyle getting QQ against Chip's Kings, with undercards on the flop, and Doyle getting after making one bet and reading Chip's minraise correctly.

  • I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you my friend.

  • Great interview!

YOu really should hear what the guy has to say about the great game.

  • where can you hear chip talking about poker?
