  • but will it blend?

  • his note grouping are pretty samey and boring he's great though

  • I'm listening to Slipknot.

  • I don't care what anyone has to say about his playing. You guys obviously don't know much about music if you don't notice how much "emotion" he puts into his BENDS!

    LISTEN!

  • Wisest words/wisest comment on this video is this: People who talk shit about Malmsteen are jealous of him and his amazing talent/speed..as for you people, keep sobbing your balls off

  • @SkwisgaarScampini He is good at playing fast but thats about it.

  • @xXxglassgowdreamxXx That's a gross oversimplification of Yngwie Malmsteen's talents, go listen to more of his songs, maybe you'll think otherwise then.

  • @xXxglassgowdreamxXx ok then what is he NOT good at in terms of mastery of the instrument? I favor many guitarists over him, including petrucci, tosin abasi, guthrie govan, and many others...but you're very wrong hes def one of the top 20 best fucking guitar players out there right now..hes not too versatile though ill give you that..but hes not just "playing fast" so dont be ignorant

  • @xXxglassgowdreamxXx

That's ridiculous!! Yngwie is more than just speed, and you know it!!

Yngwie's vibrato, arpeggio's, phrasing, and tone are all top notch!!

Yngwie is a legend and icon, respect!!

  • @epic103 I'm saying I have yet to hear something with feeling or something calm like Satch, Vai, Gilmour, etc. All the things you listed are part of technique. I'm just saying is that he isnt very versatile. And if there are Yngwie songs that have some feeling in them list them, maybe I'll like them.

  • @xXxglassgowdreamxXx

There are so many, but here's just a few!

Start with these; Crying(Trilogy), Overture1383(Marching Out), Brothers(Seventh Sign), Blue(Alchemy), Guardian Angel(Unleash the Fury), Icarus' Dream Suite(Rising Force)

    CHEERS!!

  • 1:06 wow, that´s an unexpected note bended followed by an unexpected choice of arpegios

    (irony)

  • He could make a whole "Bitch you can't play this"-video with one second of this solo :D

  • SICK

  • I searched "phrygian" to get ideas on how to play in the mode as I've had fun playing chords that follow it... first result and it does nothing for me.

  • Regardless of what Yngwie Malmsteen may or may not be, it doesn't change the fact that he has devoted a majority of his life to mastering his instrument and the (neo-classical?) genre; has done very well for himself as such, and does have a great amount of talent whether you like his style or not. I listened to him a lot back in the 80's but tired of it after his ego became louder than his amp.

  • I don't get why people that don't like Yngwie watch his videos and comment some shit talk all over the comment section. He's a better guitarist and more successful than you'll EVER be.. so fuck off.

  • If someone could fart a phrygian mode, he'd get more repeat views than this guy.

  • so it basically has nothing to do with the e phrygian scale, but that's cool yngwie

  • I like the way he says Phrygian xD :D

  • Absolutely nothing musical about that.

  • baaa hahahahhahahaha

  • What a cunt

  • now thats a fuckin solo....

  • OK! So... that was Heavy E Phrygian, doesntreallyhavafiiiilengjg/.-*~^....

    ... ahhh jya...

  • @14cheetah14 I would like to know how you define "feel".

  • @FarezRulz I think you meant that comment for chezarii, not me.

  • My first Yngwie album, cassette I should say, was giving to me by a break dancer back in high school. I wasn't really friends with the guy, we just had a few classes together. He knew I played guitar and liked metal. He just walked up to me in class and said, " I think you will enjoy this." Well he was right! I'm not a hardcore fan of Yngwie's music but he truly is a master!

  • I'm sick of hearing "where is the emotion" from so many twats that think they know guitar. Who do you think you are to judge whether his playing is emotionless or not? Did you ever think that maybe Yngwie is the one feeling the emotion with his playing? That's what truly counts as a musician and not what other people's opinions are. He will do what ever he wants because that's his style, and he LIKES his style. If you want what you call "emotion" then listen to Eric Clapton or something

  • @Headbanger9000 In the noob universe slow is emotional fast is mechanical...dont try to reason with them mate.Blues relics that barely know two patterns of the pentatonic scale think they have "freedom" and guys like YJM that play anything are..."constrained and repetitive".Someone has to make them listen to classical music sometimes.Pentatonic isnt the entire universe noobies...Step out of your little safety box..there is a whole world out there...

  • @Dreamdancer11 i agree. and yngwie is NOT that world.

  • @flipadiddle what do you mean?

  • yngwie fingered a girl........shes dead now

  • @metalhead15ly how original.

  • Twiddling!! Technically and dextrously amazing but where's the melody? Where's the lead that's going to become a memorable lick all guitarists want to play? I never want to slag off fellow musicians as I feel we're 'bothers' under the same love of playing guitar but I do despair when obvious talent could be so better used. No offence to anyone.

  • @Cirocoleman check out this guys work from the 80's. he wasn't always so cold man. His classic stuff from back in the day is really really melodic and soulful man.

  • That's not Phrygian, it's called Phrygian Major or A Harmonic Minor started on Fifth grade.

  • his playing sounds aweful

  • brilliant, love his vibrato and tone !

  • @Locomikey666 emotion has nothing to do with playing fast or slow for that matter.Try listen to some classical music and then come and tell me it has no emotions....its full of scales and arpeggios....but i guess a little more distortion and ..hair and you suddenly...emotionless lol.

  • Thanx for headache YJM :/

  • lmfao....that was awesome!!!! True Yngwie fans will really appreciate this one....especially guitarists!

  • He reminds me of Christopher Hitchens...

  • This sound makes me want to do something really intelligent and yet violent. Like crush an uprising a la Napolean.

  • thumbs up if you want yngwie as your father

  • Ok but the question is: CAN he play smoke on the water?

  • @chezarii Yeah he can, there's a video of him doing it. :D

  • @chezarii Not only that but he can make smoke out of the water too...

  • @chezarii surely with the same feel, but different huh

  • @chezarii Sure, but he'll make a completely different song out of it and manage to abuse the living fuck out of the harmonic minor scale.

  • @chezarii Yes, he CAN.

  • @chezarii Funny thing is that the intro riff from smoke on the water is 100x easier but it sounds better than this,

  • @chezarii there is a video up here somewhere where he actually plays smoke on the water and also sings ;)

  • @chezarii Malmsteen playing smoke on the water: watch?v=ZUGE5C3dfDQ

  • This could take me 2 years maybe?

  • @CODEROE120 It would take me 20

  • LOL WTF DID HE SAY at 2:04??

  • @Captt95 haha sounds like "that was an ibreen file"

  • That's so phrygian awesome!

  • Damn.

  • i quit

  • how the fuck can you learn that over night .... big fat metal puff :P

  • 14 people a phrygian gay

  • hmm how can i learn from ?

  • yes hes a amazing guitarist, but all his songs sound the same, have you all noticed that ?

  • @okok103 nope, check your ears.

  • Try playing scales every time you get the thought of jerking off :D You will be a master in no time :D

  • @Svin4y But what if your a girl? Huh?

  • @SmokescreenAbyss

I can show you if you would be so kind as to provide your

    address and contact information :"D

  • @Svin4y Sorry but i'm a guy LOL

  • @Svin4y

Yeah a master guitarist instead of a masterbater...

  • @Svin4y wow i do that all the time it really works since i get so consumed in it, guitar keeps me out of trouble too. wow someone out there who relates

  • FUCK THAT WAS EPICC

  • Major scale. Seven notes. Chordal application: C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim. Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian. C major = A minor just different root positions. EXACT SAME NOTES, Different order. This is how you apply music over a progression. He's using phrygian, therefore it's Em, because phrygian is a minor mode. People on here are in some huge power struggle for comment domination, all they do is confuse.. I hope this helps.

  • @DAKMAIN Great explanation, thank you!

  • Actually this is Eb

  • @ege92 That is because he has his guitar downtuned to Eb.

  • This next song doesn't really have a name but I like playing it so STFU!

  • funny how yngwie makes you want to throw your guitar away....

  • @guitardude9966 just makes me play harder you give up too eazy

  • what does he say at the end it sounds like gibberish.

  • as much as i dont want to like yngwie because hes a d-bag, i cant help but be in awe of his mastery of the guitar.

    lol

  • tabs for this? someone knows..?

  • needs more reverb...lol

  • hmmm, i'd like to learn this

  • Comment removed

  • This video reminded me i still have a lot of work to put into my phrygians

  • ok here it comes a dick in your mouth speak fucking english

  • That was sick!

  • Comment removed

  • Does anybody know what he is doing between 1:13 and 1:17?

  • @gooootar really fast sweeps

  • Comment removed

  • Is there any tabs for this?

  • @MrEllinaras

Yes... a lot of it is in blitzkrieg

go to gootab then yngwie_malmsteen then blitzkrieg

I linked this video there too.

  • @MrEllinaras dude if you got tabs for this.........it would be like 50 page long...........

  • freak

  • Anyone has tabs for that ???? Or at least could anyone tell me what arpeggios does he use in this lick ??

  • sounds like old school death metal. god i love it

  • @123MetalRules Skilled death metal guitarists tend to apply different modes into their playing.

  • incredible !

  • awesume nuff said

  • Heavy e Fridge-ian... is that his new diet?

  • probably couldn't fall asleep to this

  • 8 people are deaf.. ahhaa..

  • 8 heads explode at 0:46

  • "WHAT ARE YOU WASTING YOUR LIFE FOR???"

    "Heavy E Phrygian..!"

  • @robbynmelendez YES MAN

  • I have lots of friends obbseced with slash and they said he is the better in the world

I always put yngwie's videos to that guys and its somehow cruel but really fucking funny they shit their pants and I get exited because someday I will play as good as him.

  • 2:03 смеется, какбэ сам офигевая от того, насколько крут

  • @TheEvilLike totally man

  • @pokezoid50 no

  • "it has the same feel... but different" Yngwie you are the boss

  • man i swear they add something to metal everyday but still sweet

  • 0:42 my pants are white

  • @scrofascrofa are you sure not brown?

  • @rtfan13 mmmm...probably are both

  • ok I still dont know what a Phrygian is.... it is supposed to be some kind of music used for Spanish music, but here a hear a typical Malmteen salad.....

  • @IronPump89 Phrygian is a musical mode. You can wiki this for more info, but it is basically the E Minor scale with a diminished 2nd. The scale you get that way is the same as C Major. That means he's just playing C Major on top of a E Minor chord progression, with E as root, and mixes in some harmonic minor. It isn't typical for Spanish music, but is often referred to as the 'church scale'.

  • @kbkbabbie well yes okay, but how do you find the chords fiting to an E-Phrygian, apart from the typical minor/major scales that come out of the C-major scale. I mean these weird 7th chords....

  • @kbkbabbie Diminished 2nd and major 3rd...

  • @kbkbabbie but E phrygian is E F G A B C and E harmonic minor E F# G A B C D#.. if he was using E harmonic minor it will sound out but it doesnt?? isnt it?

  • @felipescalador yu sir are correct!

  • @kbkbabbie He doesn't play regular E phrygian, it's E phrygian dominant as he uses the notes E F G# A H C D - it's basically an A harmonic minor scale starting from its fifth, E.

  • @IronPump89 its just the major scale shape moved up a couple tones... but still played over E. all he's doing is playing what would be G# major scale over an E major backing or bass line... or at least that is my understanding of it...

  • @kellyisvlogging so you basically use the same chords ok....

anyway I dont really like malmsteen....

  • @IronPump89 well u should do a search of "malmsteen orchestra" and you might change your mind but ya some of his stuff is a bit mindless.

  • status of mind:blown

  • The fist time I listened Heavy E phrygian I thought "Maybe this is what you hear on your way to hell" Hell's elevator music :D

  • His guitar most likely would have burst into flames from playing so fast had he not been wearing the 7 lbs. of gold on his left arm.

  • Does anyone at all know the tabulature to the inro? or at least the tuning.

  • @slayermanbob e flat :D

  • @wolffe93 thanks man. this will only take me a couple thousand years to teach myself

  • dude this was supposed to be lesson :D

  • @trile666 a lot of his videos are supposed to lessons......... Hes intense. But i dont want him as a teacher.

  • that has nothing to do with music...

  • @Schakal1548 but it still sounds boss

  • nice, i can actually hear the phrygian

  • i would actualy have to say that his style is the easyest to master... he uses scalloped frets. which is harder to play fast on. and he plays with mostly tremlo and stecoto picking and a few sweeps.. and a regular neck is easyer to play fast on. and he picks almost every not in this song.. there are alot of harder styles to master.. in my opinion

  • Phrygian is my favorite mode.

  • Holy

  • Is it me...or does it seem like Yngwie put a on a few pounds? =p

  • I used to idolize this guy when I was like, 14. Now I realize sweeps are overdone, but this guy still kicks serious ass.

  • that made me shit my pants. . . . food for thought :D

  • can anyone tell me if the E Phrygian scale he's using is dominant or not?

  • @shadowhawk2496 it is dominant

  • =O

    tabs? lol

  • its called heavy E phrygian because all his songs and all he plays are just scales. not creativity, just technique. incredible technique. no soul or songwriting gift though. might as well be a robot.

  • @mistad00m So you think he's just playing scales?

  • @funknotik

yeah ? and arpeggio's of course. im not denying his guitar skills, its just boring to me.

  • @mistad00m I totally agree.

  • he makes me wanna give up

  • yngwie will say anything to make what he does seem harder than it really is :D , but i love him \m/

  • I know he's from Sweden but since I've noticed his good pronuntiation I have ask If whether english is his first or second lenguage>

  • I'm a huge fan, and love this mode as well, but I really think Yngwie is the most INEFFECTIVE teacher via video on the planet.... Most videos are about a 15 second conversation about the subject then him showing off on the guitar. He RARELY actually teaches anything, and it's a shame because he's clearly a wealth of knowledge.

  • can someone please explain to me what exactly is phrygian

  • @MrZexion15 A minor scale with a flat second.

  • wanna play like this? you gotta be able to have huge determination, practice shitloads, like... guitar playing will be your only hobby lol. be talented... you know what never fucking mind, nobody will never be able to play this awesome.

  • this guy rocks, i just hope the video is from the 80's

  • fuckin sick, does anybody know how to do this???

  • yngwie has the most effected tone ever

  • MY BRAIN EXPLODED

  • I would give evrything to have this incredible sound. The most amazing bends, arpeggios and everything is simply perfect.

  • Randy kicks Yngwie´s Ass in 18 thousand parts. But Yngwie is pretty cool, that´s inquestionable

  • @frankitoxi are you serious?

  • Sick.

  • yngwie is one of my favorite guitar players, but he's so good that he sucks because when he plays its all about him, not the singer, drummer or the bassist, that goes for all the other great guitar players too like george lynch, michael angelo batio, and any others you can think of. take for example: who else is in yngwie"s band? he has had different people since he started because its all about him. its insane and cool to watch. but his songs suck and nobody jsut wants to hear solos constantly

  • PFFFFT.... i could do that just don't want to :P

  • Does someone know where to find TABS for this song?

    I do wanna play along^^

  • HE IS GOD

  • Ridicu
