I suggest that you should purchase and read this excellent e-book about Haga sensei and the Haga Dojo. Maybe it will help you gain some understanding about the video. I just read it and I think it really worth it.

I am assuming this is considered "pre-war" kendo. No doubt this is what it would have looked like back in 16th century Japan when people would be sent out on the battlefield to hack away for their lives. That said, and no offense to the participants, but I think they are missing the point of Kendo entirely. Kendo is the "way of the sword" implying a sense of control and discipline which, frankly, is completely missing from this display. Not much to gain here besides some enormous bruises.
@bcruggiero Yeah no offense, I just can't be bothered to inform myself before jumping to ridiculously patronizing conclusions. I can't think AND communicate at the same time, alright? Nothing personal. I save that for books and higher institutions of learning...
Yeh thats the fella, also the last bloke stabbing his opponent in the corner brought a smile. I think we'd all like to loose it every now and again :-)
外国人は無知だな。戦前の武徳会は寝技も足掛けもやってたんだよ。

I think it is good to fight a bit more violent sometimes, because this way you can realize better what "martial" stands for. A very good training !
