  • well it was an interesting video but filet mignon!? why such an delicious and expencive meat to smoke? lol great job guys.

  • @Gear2112 - Why not? :)

  • Mmm green bushes!bet tasted like shit

  • @Xcarpedeimx

    It was awesome!

  • this preserves for a few months well. if your near a coast make tide pools and dry out salt water. use the salt to pack your meat in gives much longer times to store it.

  • Know your plants.... this would NOT be good if you used poison oak or poison ivy to create smoke.

  • @2JobsStillPoorUSA

Your absolutely right...we brought books with us :)

  • @2JobsStillPoorUSA that sounds poisonous

  • Niceness. Now I wana go smoke somthing

  • Thanks for the vid, im planning to go live in the vild for a while.. need to know information.

  • thanks alot

  • use dry leaves from oak or fruit trees, after you soak them in water for 15-20 minutes for better flavor.

  • @RBROLEX but you sure as hell better make sure they arent hemlock leaves!

  • dude you need better stuff for your smoke that meats gonna taste like shit

  • It's to preserve. This meat is not so tasty after been smoked with grass and all kind of sh*t they find around.

  • is this filmed in MN?

  • It's basically dehydrating the meat... and will last quite awhile. Good video. Thanks.

  • the indians cooked food on a cinderblock grill along side the highway

  • @tonymarie1984 ....Along the highway??? lol during what century was that???

  • make sure to not use any sumac or poison ivy.

  • does this preserve the meet for a while?does any body know how to preserve meet for a long period of time ,like in a servivle situastion

  • This method preserves inevitably...Ideal for survival.

  • @escalust this method of food preservation will NOT make food safe forever. but it will help to prolong food for a period of time, depending on humidity and temperature of the storage conditions. the only thing close to very long term storage is Freeze Drying food in metal cans which can store for up to 33 years under ideal conditions

  • @theone91109

Jerkin meat preserves it for a pro rated amt of time based on how long you smoke it for. the US army manual state that smoking meat for 1 24 hr period with allow it to keep for up to 2 weeks and 48 hrs will give you up to 4 weeks.

  • @theone91109

I'll only forgive the horrible mispelling if you tell me you're from Ukraine and are just now learning english.

  • @cameraguy1968 i was thinking the exact same thing.

  • Great video! It looks like you know what youre doing, Just always be sure of what Greens you are smoking the food with. There are some poisonous plants that would be fatal if you injested meat that was smoked in them. Happy camping!

  • amazing! how great of you to share this knowledge. i love it the video. thanks escalust! :)

  • sweet

  • BAD ASS

  • nice job.

  • Excellent information! How long will the meat keep once completely smoked?

  • I'm not sure but we ate our last piece well over 3 weeks after it was dried...and it was excellent!

  • Thanks, bro. So you don't really have to cook it first? just cut thin strips and smoke the heck out of it or do you cook it a little first? THANKS!

  • Thats right, just clean it, cut it thin, and smoke away.

  • do you know any other native american methods? how about marinades?

  • When you marinate the meat it can take longer to smoke because of the additional moisture from the marinade. We used a semi-moist rub of seasonings.

As for the Native American methods, I've seen a teepee style smoker where the meat hangs inside of the teepee with just bush on top of hot coals...works great.

Traditional Ojibway methods of preserving meat were accomplished with Blueberries.

  • I watched people do this in Romani in a primitive way and the used more of indirect method where the fire is not directly under the meat and the smoke funnels through into a box holding the meat, After they would hang it 2-3 days outside when the weather is chilly between 40-55F . I never saw any flies attacking there meats at all since they were pretty much dry and and the weather was cold

  • bad ass. not a hardcore bad ass, a great vid kinda bad ass. 5/5, thanks guys

  • Thanks for the vid. How do you prevent the meat from cooking in the smoker. Is the idea to limit heat adn just generate smoke? or is the outside supposed to char?

  • Great video

  • Very cool. Nice video. I would love to see more.

  • good video

i dont have a smoker so it helped thanks
