Wow. You've obviously been practising : ) I've started piano recently to learn my favourite songs and a bit more about music. There are some decent arrangements available if you look up 'daily music sheets' that are free, but that encourage you to buy the artist's music to support them. (I'm not a shill, I just can't afford to buy sheet music if I don't know it's accurate). I think Glass' The Hours is included.
If I didn't know better, I'd say this was right from the movie soundtrack.
No award is worthy of Philip Glass. His towering passion and endless genius is far beyond any mere human reward. Listen with eyes closed to reap most fully.
Thank you ! I have no musical talent,,,I so envy those of you who do and appreciate the gift you share with us. Keep playing,,,,when music dies,,,the soul withers.
In case some here did not know, yes; Philip Glass' music score for the movie, The Hours did win an Oscar for the best movie musical score 2002. The movie would not have been the same without the Glass' musical score. I rented the movie just to hear the musical score but enjoyed the movie too! All the actors did a superb job. We also used two Glass pieces for a short independent film titled Solar Prophet (in Youtube)

@heymozart I know it isn't correct... but uh, sorry to say, the video I listened to this from wasn't correct too... that's why I copied the mistakes...
I learned to play this, but it's nowhere near as engaging, ethereal, and simply beautiful as this! I listen to it if I'm sad, happy, anxious, excited, thoughtful, grouchy...doesn't matter.
@manderson610 Thanks a lot :) it makes me happy, that you like it. I'm sure you can play it better with practice and just play it when you feel really emotional xD It helps =P
On it's own I don't care much for it but as a score to the movie "The Hours" it was amazing. It worked so well and the film would not have been the same without it.
Well done - if you played this without having the score to refer to then you have a real, natural ear for music - a gift- and you are very lucky indeed. Enjoyed listening to this very much. : )
HOW THE HELL IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS MUSIC DIDN'T TAKE OSCAR AND GLOBE??!?!?!I heard the music of "Frida"(it won academy award-globe-grammy for it's music) and is NOTHING,NOTHING compared to this diamond! They must be sooo idiots!
I understand perfectly how you feel. As far as music composition and performance, the plastic executives are ruling the roost but can't play a simple G chord.
Please see 'Andrew White - Wild Eagle' on you tube and you'll understand what I mean.
Hey,do u have the the score of The hours? i really want to play it but i can't find the score of it through internet. If u have, can u send it to me through e-mail? thx a lot,u play it really great!
That other guy's name is Konstantin Soukhovetski. I think your articulation and pedalling are better than his. I prefer your version to Branka's because of your momentum and choice of tempi.
Nice recording. compares very well to Branka and another guy who used to have his version up but has since removed it. Well done. This recording has prompted me to listen to your other stuff
Stevtomato: I think your interpretation is beautiful... I think you know how to give the tone to Philip Glass' music. The piano is in fact slightly out of tune, but I think it ads some strange quality to it... I liked very much your playing
Your much too hard on yourself on what this "could of been.' ( Sound, mistakes, etc. ) I am not a musician myself but I love music (at least) as much as any musician ! This is very moving ....
i actually like the slight out-of-tune piano; it sounds a bit like a honky-tonk piano, which for me has associations of innocence mixed with a gently aching nostalgia. beautiful emotional sensitivity you play this with!
Ya know something? I've been watching/listening to this and the whole time I had no idea you were the one playing thise cover.
Great job! I really love how you played this song. Regardless of mistakes, whatever they might be, I still love listening to this. Once again, good job. :D
Yeah, my playing is always full of mistakes... Probably because I'm not a great pianist and I sight read all the time. Not a good excuse, but oh well.
@stevtomato thanks for the reply. I can't decide whether it is meant to be pessimistic or optimistic. Gonna keep listening and try to decide. Of course I haven't seen the movie so that could be why.
Thanks! Yeah, that's how I learnt it... I transcribed her performance... And I think I transcribed some of her wrong notes too haha... But it was great.
Ahh thats good to know - and yes you did transcribe it wrong in a few places, but the changes you made still remain very idiomatic to the style of Glass, so only die hard losers like me would notice. Great job again :)
Ohh i see...:) Well this is in fact the first and only video ive commented on, simply because I agree, when you're this talented you should have people telling you so 24/7!
No I said the worng thing! i meant, if it weren't for people like you to tell people like us, we wouldn't know that we've been doing the right thing :) sorrry about that!
This isn't the actual sheet music is it... I've been learning it (struggle with timing of section 2). It is a truly beautiful song. I also noticed you fiddle with your tempo and dynamics... I keep getting told not to do that, so lame. But yeah I can certainly hear differences in the music... notes missing etc. But still very well played.
Nah, I couldn't find it, so I transcribed it myself from a video. And well, I didn't really think of tempo changes too much, I just did it like how I'd do it... Probably, wrong, but oh well xD
This film broke my heart in the most beautiful ways...But the music put the pieces back together. I have never felt less significant and yet somehow more important at the same time. Listening to this is like staring at the stars and realising how small you are...Then realising that if it wasn't for you or people like you there would be no one to see the stars at all. This piece summarises life- Beautiful yet tragic. And your piano playing is breath-taking. Thankyou =)
I have you playing this on my ipod, and it calmed me down so much today before my Math exam! I'd love to hear you play Morning Passages. Well the whole score really as I love your piano playing more than the real thing. Thanks!
