Yes, unfortunately a lot of my American countrymen think Germany is only associated with Hitler and Nazis. Although I only understand some German, I am amused by the German sense of humor. A lot of Americans think most Germans are serious, too logical, and have no sense of humor, but this is about as true as believing every American supports

Actually every region in Germany has it's own special humour depending on different accents and culture, but you can't laugh about it when you don't know the german language, and translations from german to english don't work when it comes to humour.

It also depends on syntax. English language is better to put a punchline at the end of a sentence, while in german the syntax is different, so the humour works different.
