Nah, I wouldn't do it in the middle of a bunch of people though for fear of reports.

And yes you do get exp, it's just setting your targets health to 0, if you're not getting exp, try attacking your target once (even for like 1 damage just to tag it) use the kill button on the interface.

havn't gotten banned, just on the trail accounts that i use it a lot in stormwind
