This song isn't necessarily anti military it's more anti war in Iraq. What he is saying is that soldiers went into there and basically ruined a mans live. You can deduct that this man was a terrorist or nonstate combatant and the singer is trying to gather sympathy for the terrorist by saying oh we took him from his family and such but doesn't show the other side how many people did he take from our families.
