  • It got groovy near the end! I like that.

  • GREAT lesson about smolking

  • "Bring me my royal pipe and step on it!"

"At this point, you might think we'd go for the cheap joke, but we're not going to."

*lol* I love Kermit's "side notes" in these News Bulletins!

  • Great jam!

  • look its guy smiley again lol

  • its guy smiley again lol

  • Here are some more classic News Flashes I'd like to see on youtube:

    The Magic Mirror

Santa Claus coming out of the chimney

The one where he interviews the little boy about animal sounds

    Loud And Soft

Little Red Riding Hood About Listening

Mary Had A LIttle Lamb "The one where the lamb follows Kermit"

  • Kermit did that again in another sesame street news skit when he was standing in front of Granny's house waiting for Little Red Riding Hood (played by Cookie Monster of course) to show up.

  • I really liked the part at the beginning where the servant told Kermit his camera crew was in the opposite direction he was looking. "Pssst.....frog......"

  • Well, "bowl" was meant to be a smoking bowl too, not an bowl to eat out of

  • is it me or the king sound like the gorg king at the beginning then floyd at the end, the musicians change voices during this sketch also

  • Where's the royal manager, the royal sound engineer, the royal talent agent, the royal lawyer, the royal accountant, and the royal roadie?

  • OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! 0:52 cheap joke? He's talking about a bong. You know it, I know it, but we never knew it as kids. LOL

  • wrong, he said "bring me my pipe...and step on it" the 'obvious' joke would be stepping on the pipe.

  • it's looks like every 1

  • let's jam!

loool! fiddler two was actually digging a hole in his violin stings!!!!

  • Wow. Old King Cole was actually an American beatnik. Who would have guessed?

In actual fact, the Old King Cole of history--Cole Hen--was Welsh. I'm serious.

  • Lol lol

  • Made me not want to smoke! The king was merry all on his own. Wow. Typical local band- they can't even count themselves, but can be "really hip!"

  • Yeah, that cracked me up!

  • I'm a merry ol' soul with a pipe and a bowl, lmao THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF!

  • + "where did we pick that guy up anyway" !!! LOLLLLL

  • That servent accent is so funny ! It's the main reason why I put this one in my favorites ! Bon !

  • It must me because I'm French: could someone please explain to me that "Royal pipe-step on it" joke ??? (Baille ze way, ze Frentche acccent ize superbe ! Bon !)

  • step on it has two meanings.

    one-to be fast or quick

    two-literally stepping on it.

so when the king says, step on it, he wants it right now.

    but the servent, smashes it.

    get it?

  • Merci beaucoup, s'il vous plaît ! (Bon !)

  • This was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I especially liked the beginning where Kermit was facing the wrong way, and the servant pointed him in the direction of the camera. Funny!

  • I love Frank Oz's French accent voice on the servant.

  • that pipe had some serious hydro in it...lmao

  • "BRING ME MY ROYAL PIPE! AND STEP ON IT.

    I now laugh at that.

  • Could someone post the News Flash where Kermit interviews Ali Baba and the 40 thieves? I haven't seen that one since the 1970's. It's the one where the 40 thieves steal his clothes at the end. Hysterical! Anyone know why they haven't shown that one for so long?

  • that sounds like Fozzy

  • well im pretty sure frank oz (aka fozzy bear's voice) is the voice of that french guy

  • That's definitely Frank Oz as the French guy

  • Thanks for directing me to this clip, sawing14s; it's one of the best News Flashes on the show. Five stars!

  • Notice the PSA about smoking in there?

  • Yeah. "Sesame Street" VERY RARELY showed smoking ever since its debut. I think by the 1970s people knew that it was bad for you.

  • Well, the famed "Surgeon General's Report", which linked smoking to cancer and emphysema, among other things, came out in 1964.

  • Yep. I think this is the only time I know "Sesame Street" ever did a "smoking is bad for you" lesson. And I SERIOUSLY doubt they'd explain how bad alcohol is for you ;)

  • The WNET logo!!! :-)

  • "At this point, you might think we'd go for the cheap joke... but we're not going to." ROFFLES

  • I understood what Kermit meant by that when I was five years old. XD

    What does ROFFLES mean?

  • Would you mind explaining it to me?

  • Hey! Does anyone have the sort of funny sort of sad one of Old King Cole? That is the one where Big Bird heard how the king was a mean old sole before he became a merry old sole. Does anyone have that one? It teaches us not to be mean.

  • Is the Ernie one where King Cole blows bubbles with his pipe? I remember that one too.

  • haha Kermit is a good dancer. :)

  • WOO-HA!

  • Awesome! I remember this one! Kermit jams with the King and his musicians! cool! :-)

  • Unfortunally, I don't remember seeing this when was I kid. I have only seen the one with Ernie in the nursery rhyme. I hope someone would post this. I haven't seen that one for a good 10 years.

  • I thought this one was funny. Thanks. :)

  • also i just noticed jerry nelson the king has two voices in this sketch, in the beginning he is like king gorg from fraggle rock and at the end he changes to his floyd pepper voice right when he says get my lute

  • Actually at the beginning he sounds more like the Ghost of Christmas Present from Muppet Christmas Carol.

  • cool their voices changes throughout the sketch

  • What a groovy jam...hahaha!!!

  • "23??? HOLD IT!" This stuff still makes me laugh 25 years after I first saw it! Thanks for sharing!

  • The people that made "Sesame Street" knew that smoking is bad!

  • Uh let's not get to serious here. It's part of how the nursery ryhme was written.

  • Great Sesame street news flash. If you could find more of them,I would appreciate that.

  • Let me see if I got the characters straight:

Old King Cole & Announcer-Jerry Nelson

Kermit, Fiddler 1, and Bass Player-Jim Henson

Servant, Fiddler 2, Saxophone Player, and KIng-Frank Oz

    Fiddler 2 & Drummer-Richard Hunt

  • You hit the notes right on the head. Get it?

  • Except, what do you mean by Klng?
