Funny thing is that Jordan seemed to have a lapse on defense by sagging off Muggsy and giving him a wide open 3 attempt. Maybe Jordan wanted to win it with a buzzer beater instead of the tedious fouling that usually happens at the end of a close NBA game.

@mrmacross I think that Jordan leaned off of Bogues because he was playing his odds a bit. Although Bogues had some success that year from beyond the arc, historically, Bogues was not a good 3-pt shooter. That time, it didn't work for Mike.

im not sure if thats a defensive fault on jordan or not. bulls are up by 3 so ideally u want to protect the 3. but mason was matched up on rodam so u wouldnt want to drop down and make him pass it back out for a tougher shot. jordan droped down and mason passed it out to mugsy. jordan was still able to get back and contest the shot. maybe jordan thought since mugsy was so short that hed have time to get back and use his height to block or mess up the shot.

96-97 could be arguably the best that MJ has ever been. Of course his season's stats don't reinforce the arguement. And unfortunately they ran out of gas the last two weeks of that season and lost 3-4 or so to win "only" 69 games. Before that stretch MJ seemed to be at his best because he knew his limits so well yet still had the mental edge and drive to win everytime out, to turn it on at exactly the right time. Physically he was superior to most opponents.

in this game mj's pace is a bit relaxed to me. maybe the hornets defense was relaxed too.. he made all the shots so effortlessly, like this is just a pick up game. the play on 5:31 is crazy. with only two dribble he cut right through into the lane for a potential dunk, that kind of efficiency set him apart.

not that it is important but the final game winner looks like a 2pt to me, since his foot might touch the line.
