for the record this is the 3rd time I have been to the hospital in 6 weeks. What the er does is stabilize the condition. What it is not is a place to get dressing for wounds several times a day or the other kind of wound treatment I need. Sadly until I can get that kind of treatment, these ER visits will be a regular thing every few weeks.

in the UK we have free health care so if your on the side of the road bleeding 2 death an ambulance will try 2 save u but in the US they want you to give them your health insurance card while you are bledding 2 death 2 save u and if u have got no cover then they will leave u there

Sorry...but that is SO WRONG. My son went to the E.R. for a gash over his eye(I opened the car door and hit him accidently.)They knew he has no job or insurance(he is 33) and they saw him, xrayed his head, and stitched up his wound. They later sent him papers to fill out to get what they call charity care to cover it for him. BUT...we asked for that to be sent. You need to ASK for it, but they will NEVER turn you away. Don't get me started about UK healthcare!!!

Can you send me that article you read. Regarding the NHS I do hope you have had time to check out dprjones's 5 part series letter to America.  In it he as a british citizen and a lawyer goes into detail about the accusations of the inneficies of the NHS.

That being said, there are obviously individual horror stores just like there are cases like mine her in America. The question is on the whole, which population is better served?

CastleSunshine that is not accurate. In the US anyone can get their condition stabilzed at any Emergency Room in the country. Regardless of your ability to pay they will treat you. They will give you a hefty bill at the end. However the ER will only stabilize your condition. For follow up treatment like if you had a stroke you will need insurance or have to wait to get government assistance.
