  • BASED WORLD

  • Thumbs up if based god brought you here

  • thank you based god

  • I caught them while searchng for Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie, the true masters. slowdive are not worthy 1/100 of HB and RG. This means that tehy are very good. Too epic, nonetheless.

  • swag.. #TYBG #TYSLOWDIVE :) This is so #RARE

  • thank you based god

  • THUMBS UP IF LIL B "THE BASEDGOD" BROUGHT YOU HERE!!

  • the basedgod has spoken

  • Mesmerising. Caught in time, yet, timeless.

  • [11 people need a new set of ears]

  • Needed today more than ever: STUNNING

  • Thank god for this kind of music (v _ v)

  • mesmorising...heaven.....

  • eccezionale... delicata, leggera, bellissima catch the breeze, miliare just for a day

  • This music allows me to breathe

  • que canción. los románticos siempre saben que quiere decir esta canción.

  • timeless.

  • I have always loved them,I'll carry them in my grave

  • AMAZING SONGS!

  • • Sure sounds like Vini in the vocals,

but cannot seem to make out his illustrious guitar

  • what is there to say only that this band are amazing and the song fkn rocks..

  • close your eyes, listen to this song, think of the Mediterranean and you'll understand why an American would live in Spain.

  • @chi8cago i didnt got that point, im spanish btw the way, and madrid is so far away from the mediterranean!! so i cant see the picture... great song 2:54 is simply amazing!

  • unlucky to be around, same time as madchester.

i love slowdive, and personally inspiral

    carpets.

  • Man, call me a noob but i hadn't a clue that these guys were that old. They first started playing the year i was born. Love them none the less.

  • @ryigenchi noob

  • @ryigenchi you nooby two shoes you

  • this is amazing. my heart aches

  • One of my all-time favourites.

  • mysterious skin soundtrack<3

  • Im irish but we i think we can all agree that The UK gave the world the best music. (although we did give the world MBV :D)

  • @acidreign6 It certainly sounds that way.

  • woah, its been so long since i've heard this.,

i wonder how long until the next time?

  • sounds like pink floyd

  • i love inspiral carpets, but slowdive are class.

  • I send love to everyone who loves this music and who created this music. Everyone else we will attack with the love we have created........(a love a attack cant hurt that bad can it?)

  • Marvelous stuff!, also a Ride follower, music like this makes u feel like your IN A DIFFERENT PLACE!

  • Galaxy 500, Slowdive, Lush and My Bloody Valentine. This song is brilliant.

  • @lyndon3000 ... yeah...curve as well, even charlatans '92 lp , the mission "butterfly on a wheel" single too... and many more... a lot of records of this 88-93 era ...have a ecstatic space out sound... but probably Lush and Cocteau twins are closer to this Slowdive sound...i forgot probably many names...slowdive R very extreme in that "completely lost on a cloud" attitude... with nearly screaming and spatial guitars sounds...and...excellent to put in a fictional good alternative (US) movie...

  • Just expirimenting with shoegazing now and this band is the best I've come across so far.

  • @DX4LIFFE you havent found "Ride" then yet!

  • @PhuriousStyles DUDE!!! I LOVE RIDE!!! Nowhere was the first shoegaze album I bought (aside with Loveless which in all honesty didnt find it AMAZING but good) I love falling asleep to that album! I think Ride may actually be my favorite lol

  • @DX4LIFFE dude!!! loveless is the most brilliant album EVER made! it's perfect in every single aspect... that's why shoegaze disappeared, because the master piece of art was already created. About Nowhere, really like it, Andy Bell is a genious...

  • @PhuriousStyles Ride fans have the best TASTE in music!!

  • @DX4LIFFE Try the harder edge shoegaze like Swervedriver.

  • @ditimely Viva los swervies, also mbv and ride!!!

  • I'm so glad i still have the 12" EP

  • I found these recently and now they have become my favorite band, they are beautiful.

  • AMAZING

  • Beautiful Noise T_T

  • I usually go to sleep with Slowdive at night....this music brings a flood of memories/emotions and transforms the listener to outer space....Simply Sublime!!!

  • amazing.

  • I saw them live at Camblridge Corn exchange back when I was like late teens or somehthing

Great night and those epic evenings going to a gig are something I miss

Hours listening in the bedroon, 45 unbelievalbe minutes live

  • Slowdive in my blood.

  • heahaaha this vid was posted on my birthday and still a kickass song. perfect thx for posting

  • I haven't listened to Slowdive in probably 15 years. I used to when I was younger... 14 or 15... back in late 80s and early 90s. This song is still as incredible and epic as it was then. I haven't felt goosebumps in a long, long time like this.

  • me neither. So beautiful and melancholy it draws you in.... It reminds me of an unrequited love first, and then a requited one too! My first real love Leo Mileman...

  • so underrated. had these on the walkman when on hols in menorca last year. lying baking in the sun, pouring with sweat then one of THOSE chord changes came along and i was covered in goospimples.

  • its that crushing chord at 2:54, always gets me! i saw them a number of times, they were criticised at the time for being a bit wet or shoegazy, they were deafening and had a power only a few bands can match. great band , slowdive! my fave song...

  • @mrwilliam36 It's not so much the chord that make it crushing, but that bit of distortion that comes into it.

  • Nice...very nice :)

  • shoegazing at its finest!

  • Amazing. Love the Slowdive! <3

  • Thanks so much for sharing this. Priceless

  • wow! cant believe i'd ever see this video again! my son was the baby in it- 18 years ago. Timeless

  • no way josé

  • Wow, that is incredible. How did that come about?

  • A friend of mine worked on the video- produced it I think. I remember it was a freezing day in january and they wanted him in a white baby-suit, so he had about 10 layers on!

  • That is pretty cool. I would relish that forever. This song is so incredible and beautiful. Fairly obscure, which makes it so much more special for me.

  • @juliettepritchard no way! tell me more please

  • @rinku13 well, in 1991 my friend was a music video producer and when he saw my baby, he asked to put him in the video! We got paid £50! it's great to watch every now and then- ahh the good old days!

  • @juliettepritchard

your son has to be the luckiest guy on earth. btw my last name is pritchard and i am 19 as well!

  • @juliettepritchard That may have been your baby boy in the video but those were my clothes in the washing machine :-)

  • werd

  • stfu

    and listen to the music

  • Dont diss the guy cos of his tastes... I fuking love the cocteau twins and slowdive....

Neither are 'BETTER' than the other....

You should appreciate them both...for their diiferent styles.....

  • see the cool kids would say 'yer the cocteau twins are better because slowdive were clearly influenced by them' but cocteau twins never did nothing this beautiful

  • your just saying that because youve never heard Soulvaki yet

  • the music GOLDEN HAIR is from SLOWDIVe?

  • What the fuck happens @ 2:54 onwards?! It's tripping me out... it's like the most amazing "noise" (for lack of a better word) I've ever heard

  • Its a sped up pic of someone driving...run really fast.....

  • It is amazing, I think what's happening is that there are loads of synths and guitars going through an echo (obvs) but we don't hear the direct signal, just mostly the echo.

So even though the sounds going into the echo are very different, they get kind of blended into one by the effect.

But basically it's just really nicely played instruments!

  • That's pretty much it. 3 guitars --> 3 effects units using heavy echo + delay and you've got it. :)

  • love it

  • Who is that at 52?

  • Reminds me of summer in Glasgow Scotland 1991.I was only 20. Got there 'Greatest Hits' ???? cd and instantly remembered this from Just a Day album with the layered sounds and shimmering guitars. Also Spanish Air.

  • Sometimes I wish that their songs would be a little longer

  • Surreal...

  • Slowdive's climaxes lift you of this world for a moment and then gently bring you back to your feet after 1-2 minutes of sheer, indescribable bliss.

  • sublime

  • or music is just so beautiful that it brings your to tears.

  • I don't know why but this song always makes me cry.... a truly beautiful song.

  • interesting, it may be that you experienced something sad when you first heard it, or it just strikes a cord with things in your life right now. I know songs that do the same things to me. this one isn't one of those right now, but it may be in the future, who knows. the mind is hard to grasp. "Half-Light" by Porpupine Tree always makes me want to cry.

  • Very soothing. Thanks for posting.

  • sorry the songs not pygmon but blue skied an clear off pygmallion i think thats it?

  • Huh? Shoegaze is a totally separate genre fom Madchester. Since when was My Bloody Valentine or Ride ever considered popular among skaters? Don't get me wrong. I like Madchester a lot, but the closest Shoegaze ever got to a Madchester beat was "Falling Down" by Chapterhouse.

  • hahaha kriz716 is a moron lol

  • A beautiful mix of of the mundane and the sublime . . .

  • '' feel like days are gone''

  • this is what dreams are made of :(

  • Try putting on this song while you're sleeping.........it will enter your dream...no joke.

  • this could put anyone to sleep, i'm saying it in a good way. It's very relaxed and tranquil

  • Just enjoy the music.

  • la mejor banda de rock space por siempre y esta kancion es aparentemente sencilla pero dice mucho y me reeenkanta gracias por subirla :)

  • I was lucky enough to see them play a really small venue in San Francisco. The absolute loudest show I have ever experienced. Mindblowing. Amazing... nothing like it since.

  • Best shoegazer band ever.

  • alcest is the best

  •

  • agreed

  • the music they made can protect your soul if listened to more often than radio in quick drives to the store or leisure couch tripping at home with a half pack of smokes and a bowlpack

  • amazing

  • personally i don't think this sounds "dated" at all. I listen to it now it still seems fresh and beautiful to my ears and my soul!

  • They were amazing live too, more ethereal than you can imagine but loud and thumpy with it : Brilliant.

I miss them lots and lots :|

  • this music really sounds dated to me now.

Goldfrapp is the closest to a modern etherial sound that i've heard.

I miss these days when so many Cocteau-inspired bands were coming out

but no more or maybe i just haven't heard them (of the new ones)

  • I agree with you, but I love these bands from the early 90s. The kind they would play on 120 Minutes or underground radio. Another band that maybe sounds like this today is Blonde Redhead stuff on 4AD. There aren't too many bands that have this sound anymore.

  • yes. Blonde Redhead. i forgot about them.

  • This song makes me larger than life.

  • when i listen to this.. im always being absentmined andi feel alway like floating in the air...

what a great sound it is..

  • One of the greatest albums and songs of the 90's. this whole album got me through some really dark times in a twisted joyful way.

  • My 2nd favourite Slowdive song, doesn't touch Primal though :)

  • wow - blast from the past. I used to work nights and I'd listen to this on the train on my way home from work, right after a big fat one. (Ah when I were young!)

  • they should be more well known, they're brilliant :)

  • slowdive made music i have wanted to hear all my life.

  • i absolutely agree

  • I wish I had grown up with these guys...I love shoegaze. It takes me to a better place.

  • I tripped for years to this wonderful band....the majisty.....be young ...again

    Jeffg

  • solo oggi, l'ho ascoltata 18 volte

  • Love this band. Check out ebay right now. I've got a TEST PRESSING of Souvlaki on vinyl up for auction.

  • I miss them

  • Sublime takes me back to that special time.

  • Such a good band. I've got the three albums, various EPs, and tons of demos, and it's all such good music.

  • Not surprising that at long last these guys get the recognition they deserve.Saw them loads of times gigging around the Uk and they always got better. Souvlaki is probably their finest moment but Slowdive cracks a few mean chords when it wants too - around 02.57 on Catch the breeze does it for me !

  • Managed to see them live a couple of times. They managed to translate the recorded sound very, very well into the live arena. 'Just for a day' was a great EP. I lived inside it for many weeks. Wrap one up, put on the headphones and drop out...or in..or whatever. Fantastic.

  • Wow... I am completely blown away.

  • Exellent song of Slowdive.

    Video does have something visionary.

  • best shoegaze band ever, iv been there since they started seen them for real and now still love them as mojave 3

  • it's funny, i was never that into slowdive as much as say MBV, but hearing their stuff now is more touching than listening to any other band of that period, it is the sound of nostalgia, it's like they only make sense now, years later.

  • Totally agree. I liked them a lot back in the day, now I've rediscovered them and LOVE them.

  • Check out tearwave! pretty cool updated 90's sound-especially "Lotus Flower"!!!!

  • Anyone up for a shoegazing reviival? It's gotta be time. Let's get Slowdive, MBV, Spacemen 3, Lush (pre-Lovelife obviously), Love Spirals Downwards, The Pale Saints and all other kindred spirits out on the road and spread the word!

  • Don't forget Ride!!!

  • And add "My Bloody Valentine", too ;)

  • He said "MBV"

  • and Chapterhouse! But Slowdive is the best!

  • Slowdive were responsible for some of the best and most idiomatic shoegazer compositions ever. This is one of them. Nice that the video features the _Holding Our Breath_ version, too -- it has a much better ending than the _Just for a Day_ version because the feedback fades out naturally at the end, rather than the artificially lowered amplitude in the production of the later release.

  • shoegaze masterpiece

  • great song.

  • Feel like floating in the sky

  • I listen to this song at work over and over - it makes the phone calls go away. Slowdive plus a few beers and you're loose as a goose!

  • Great band!

  • anyone knows how do they create that guitar sound ( for exmple in the end), like keiboards,,, they don't sound like normal feedbacks, maybe they use a lot of e-bow?? thanks

  • I can hear a moog in there and they apparenty used something called a korg sound canvas(?) plus plenty of reverb slapped on everything of course. Why don't bands sound like this today?? (apart from the awesome Verve)
