  • robs the man! he would have won the 2008 olympics like he did in syndney! an mahe probley would have 2 if he hadnt got sick! cant rate 1 better then the other! both amazing rowers an good sportsman! big respect for rob 2 come out of 8 year retirement and even compete with the world champion! THE MAN

  • @8492171ab But... Mahé holds the world record on water for the single sculls...

  • Waddell is still the man. Mahe is not touching is 5:35 erg test...and if you say erg's don't float just look at the guys muscle mass compared to Drysdale, he make's Drysdale look like flubber. Will be looking forward to seeing Waddell back in the M1x event in 2012 olympics where he belongs. Not hating on Drysdale its just I hate when athletes get thrown in a boat they shouldn't be in...I mean come on we all know Waddell should have been in the 1x but because he got ill he wasn't....

  • lol mahe pretends that it was a fair race but it's so obvious the difference shows that waddell was sick

  • he doesnt pretend it was a fair race he make a point that he knew something was wrong its his coach that was getting aroused about how much rob lost by he thought mahe was having a really really good race i mean please your a world class coach and you cant see that, that gap is competely unrealistic unless there was something wrong with rob. No olympic champ who beat mahe multiple times that season is going to lose by 150m the coach looks like hes gonna wet his pants

  • mahe is a pussy robs my hero

  • Xeno Muller has had the same problem.. He describes on his site... he has had cardio version to fix it.. I've had cardio version but that and atrial fibrillation is all I have in common with him and Waddell .. .. BUT I tell you this when your heart goes out of sync the last thing you feel like doing is pulling on an oar. Not only is it frightening but you feel really shitty.. you arent getting the blood supply you need and your body knows it.. I am full of admiration for Waddell.

  • I must make a comment that Mahe's coach has little clue what happened in this race. I have a similar condition, and can tell you that your chest fills with an empty choas when it happens. And Mahe was happy after the race? With meds this wouldn't happen to Waddell, and as a competitor I would feel hollow beating a faster man because of a condition that could be fixed well before China. It's about putting the fastgest in the boat! Let Rob get things sorted out, and then race them again!

  • his condition may well come back again...noone knows when. maybe at the olympics or maybe not. therefore, drysdale is the winner of the trials. he was the faster man, that's it. waddell might have caught a crab as well and lost, that's racing.

of course waddell and drysdale are probably the fastest single scullers ever, but to my mind it was a fair competition and drysdale came out of it on top.

  • The record of their recent races puts Rob up by one race - I believe. Comments were made that Rob's condition wouldn't be a problem if he were medicating, but that he hadn't being taking anything as he had been incident free for a number of years. I believe the meds do have a health risk involved, which is why he didn't want to take them.

He didn't lose because of skill, or talent, but because of shitty luck WRT a medical issue that could be resolved. For this special case I say keep racing!

  • It's too bad Rob didn't get back into it a year ago, as I do agree with Drysdale that it sucks to be peaking now instead of training for the summer. On the whole it makes me wish both could go! It'd be great to see these beasts at it in China. I hear Rob will try for the double, which is great. Is it true he pulled 5:36.? on the erg???

  • I just hope that the trials didn't take too much out of them, so that both can perform at their best in china. yes, i looked up on the rowingNZ site a few days ago and it said that there were still trials for the double (cohen, waddell, trott).

I heard he did 5:35! and 14:58 on the 5000m test, both would have been world records!

  • Thanks for the reply! 5:35! ugggggg! Maybe he's part Martian or something.

  • yea hes a genetically enginered mutant from the future, a government experiment to develop the perfect soldier

  • OOH!! so why didn´t take the meds?? I´m sorry Rob! Mahe is better than you!

Maybe Waddell should be more carefull the next time... too much pression to hold, his heart explode.

I think both are great, great rowers! but maybe Rob was too agressive trying to thake Mahe out of picture after 8 years of no competition.

  • nah rob is the best. He rows better he is stronger and is an absolute machine

  • james tomkins has the same problem, he was on medication during the australian olympic trials, and one every single race of the fours matrix, let mahe go, he is obviously the superior athlete, any loss to him was a result of mahe doing aerobic work and waddell doing speed work.

  • i dont know about that rob is a far superior athlete. I dont know where you got this aerobic - speed work thing you dont know what they were doing for training. Every morning before training rob would do a 1 1/2 hr erg so i really dont know where your coming from. Rob is a freak athlete and he was the best sculler of the two its really unfortunate that his heart fucked out but then again its good because mahe cant row crew sculling boats if his life depended on it

  • vamos!!!!!!!!!!!! rob waddel todabia tienes oportunidad de llegar a las olimpiadas y ganar , tienes 3 oportunidades mas vamos, tu puedes

  • Drysdale is the best! And Waddel is the best, too!

  • Poor Waddell, but I think Drysdale beat him in the first 350with his attitide
