  • No more speedy gonzales now I see you speak english again

  • @B4SK0R0 I needed to lose weight, and I did! The chair was fine and still fine.

  • you need new chair Mister !

  • to be honest with u everyone here is rite photogrophy relys on the mood and the lighting u wan to set as long as u capture what your looking for flash or no flash the job is done

  • Flash if you need is what I say, nothing wrong with that! Well said tbh!! Photography is ABOUT light, so it makes sense to me

  • I dont uderstand the others. I am a professional photographer and I completely agree with Juan :) Some images don't call for flash, some shots you absolutely need it. All he's saying is, if you think you NEVER need flash(which even I know a ton of photographers that think that way) then your probably being close minded, hurting your photography, and in the end being ignorant thus the idiot comment :) Cheers!

  • Thank you Bman, for setting me straight!

  • Regardless of opinion, just a poor presentation. Sorry Juan, this video and your comments here do not make you look professional. I'd take this one down.

  • spent 3 minutes to state tha flash is good as long as you know how to use it

  • en español Juanto Lios....

    un abrazo...

  • sorry but any good photographer will tell you its not about the kit you own but its all about the lighting, and if your dumb enough not to pack at least one light then well your the photographer still doing free weddings for a reason, most of this videos is just rebutting comments from his other videos. I still pull af lash out on a brilliant sunny day and over power the sun to get a great crisp creative photo, and if you don't know what that is then well again your working for free.

  • @Chadnking Well said! Light is paramount, and even on a sunny day!

  • I think viewers forget that people are spending their time and effort to share knowledge to others for free. Lighten up!

  • @maddog3159 I think it has more to do to the fact that they can voice their opinion anonimously so they are more expresive than they would otherwise. Is so much easier to point out what is wrong, than to make something, in other words is easier to tear something down than it is to build it. But some of this folks are just brutal and right down vicious with their opinions! I mean, for some of them to talk about my weight,,,, damn!

  • i dont use flash!!! thats because i know how not to use it!! I also do know how to use it but prefer not to!!

  • @weddingnewcastle Really, no flash? at night in a dark room?

  • @JuanLGonzalez

most weddings i go to are not usually in total darkeness! there are always lights on somewhere. Iso 6400-12800 f1.4 lens no prob!

  • @weddingnewcastle "Most" leaves room for some. What do you do in those "Some"

I have a 1.2 lense and I need flash in some occasions.

  • It took you 3 minutes to say the following:

"Some people don't use a flash because they think it looks artificial. Well, try using an adjustable flash and bounce it off of walls and ceilings. The results will be much better."

Could you please try to be more concise next time?

  • @intrigid Maybe I am not as smart as you are!

  • @intrigid where are your videos, I want to see your 15 second videos

  • i definitely missed that one!

  • I think with the on camera flash (I cant afford a propper flash) it generally looks bad when pointed straight forward... it does look better if i put some foil infront of my 40D's flash to reflect it upwards, but thats tricky and not portable

  • @williambrodie I don't get what you are saying. I don't know that we can make a blanket statement like that and say that if you point the flash forward all images will look bad. I can think of may instances where its needed like that and it will look good.

  • @JuanLGonzalez In my experience the only time the camera wants to use the flash if left on an auto mode is when its dark, this creates that pale skin black background effect that looks bad. I love using the flash but I dont have any luck using the built in one other than countering shaddows during bright sunlight. Just my experience so far. I try and avoid flash because I rarely like the results I have. Although I want to eventually get a speedlite with diffuser that mught help. Your thoughts?

  • Sweet Dream Catcher shirt bro!

  • I really enjoy your YouTube Channel. You give great advice. Check out my YouTube Channel Sometime. Maybe we could swap ideas. I plan to post a lot of my photography editing sessions on here.

  • Yes, flash is an wonderful source of light for weddings (if used correctly) - i prefer to use it in Manual mode 90% of the time.

  • Don't mean to be rude, but not sure what that taught anyone, learnt that you like to use a flash and you don't like people saying they don't like to use a flash..... did i miss something.

  • @talialing

    Nope!

  • I love it! I didn't use flash for years because I was afraid of it. I took a couple of classes and with tutorial help from here and a book by Joe McNally, my ideas and attitude changed! Sorry I mised you show whith Jerry Ghionis...that dude is BAD!

    seeburt

  • @seeburt

    He is vey inspiring!

We had the opportunity to shoot with him at night and that was even better.

  • @JuanLGonzalez

I was looking at one of your shots at your site and notice the Vincent Thomas in the background. I thought you might have been shooting from baseball fields. I scouted that place once. Where do you shoot...Pedro?

  • @seeburt

Yea I shoot all over the place but this spot is near me.

I learn that is illegal or at least not allowed by the cops if they see you shooting there. Terrorist attacks, you know!

  • I hear ya! Automatic can take you far, and a flash modifier takes you even further.

  • @hogluvr1

    So many options, is great!

  • goood, really good

  • That is so true....

I use flash all the time (not directly at the subject) but bouncing it, and you can´t tell if a flash was used or not on the final image,

You can mix available light with flash light and get brilliant results.

  • "you dont like your results, you dont know what youre doing" sooooo true! great video man.

  • @toher24 I am glad you like it and it means something to you man. It really shows how new photogs are when they make the comments like "I don't even take the flash because I don't use it" I say, like really, never? Is like only driving straight. Where is the fun in that. Flash is an amazing tool, we just need to learn it.

  • Awesome video! Keep it coming! >>self taught photographer, and hands on learner here... :)

  • thank you, juan.

    awesome video :)

  • @TheiGhoest Thanks, I know lots of shit, I just need to know how to tell the story better. We are thought wrong in a lot of ways and we have to relearn it all over again but most of us tend to want to fight that change. Ultimately is very easy, too easy.

  • great video. I have finally got to grips with using ETTL flash effectively. I generally use manual. So now I use bounceflash on ETTL mode on Aperture priority for events. Flash exp compensation to increase and decrease power. Flash sync mode on "AUTO", lets me be a bit more creative with the shutter speed. I change ISO to get requied shutter speed. Dose that sound about right Juan?

  • Overdrive, the best way is what works for you, what ever you feel comfortable with. Auto is more practical and you can get close fast. If you have the time, manual will get you closer to what you want with lots of concistency! I like it that you try different things. Not all will work all of the time!

  • agreed

  • awesome video

  • Simple and to the point! Thank you bill!

  • Thanks for that man. great video.

  • Thank you for taking the time. I am not a teacher by no means by I do have lots of hands on experience. I will do a simple video where I can express what I feel is the main concept to learn and improve photography.

  • Great Stuff Juan I can't wait for the next vid. Can you do something about outdoor Night photography?? I love the pictures you shot out side on with low light.

  • Flash is good......when it's necessary!

  • diffusers don't mess with ETTL metering. They can skew the ranges / values on manual mode though. They do soften the light, do some tests. Not to be confused with the effect from a softbox or umbrella, which increase the size of the light source thus softening shadows (Assuming it stays close to the subject) but the quality of light from a flash with a diffuser on it is different. Not better, just different. Depends on what you need. $.02 Good video.

  • Your very correct Juan. The people that are so pro that don't use flash are the ones that shoot at 1/200th-250th and get shots with the "deer caught in headlights" effect. For all begginers to flash out there, learn to BALANCE your exposure to get perfectly natural looking shots with a focus on your subject.

  • Steven, I use to think I knew it all, as you do, I grew up! Give yor self time it'll happen to you. Us level headed people say "There is more than one way to skin a cat " I don't use ETTL, nothing against it, I just don't use it. Breath man breath deep, lol.

  • Steven, you are jumping in to lots of conclusions, but thats okay. Knowledge doesnt come easy nor early. You'll appreciate my message in due time. Welcome to the world of photography.

  • Hi Juan, though I agree with some of your statements it would be great to see a bit of your work so that people can gauge better your point of view, and have a better understanding. Cheers

  • Xtreme, I know what you are saying but I havent gotten to the point where I can edit my videos and add images. I hope that those who are interested in what I do visit my web site. I am working on been able to edit my own videos and do as you suggest. Thank you for taking the time.

  • If you have windows movie maker [ comes with vista] it is easy enough to import pictures and "split" the video and drag and drop images between the split area !

  • you are right juan! I would like to see some of your work do you have a website?

  • Steven, open your mind. Don't limit yoruself. You also need to learn how to use the diffuser for you. By the way I don't use ETTL,,, not everybody does things the same way and that is a good thing!

  • one of the biggest challenges to photographers !!! good stuff Juan more time!

  • Let me work on other pointers. Thank you.

  • ur awesome bro!!!!! i like ur stuff

  • Thanks Miavonni, I just try to share as others have done with me over the many years.

  • I totally agree with you Juan. Gracias.

  • Gracias a ti Morgan!

  • Poor - try telling ways to use the flash rather than the whole time say "flash is great".

  • Why would you assume I don't ?

I have been sharing my knoweledge for years to hundreds of people. You need to understand this is one tip of thousands I have shared. Hard to include a life time of work in a two minute vide. Tell me, do you share ?

Tell me what can I share with you?

  • great tips!

  • right on mam i hate those people that cant use a flash. they need to learn not to fire it at full power at f1.3 or what ever. I hear them complaning to me all the time.

  • exacto

    nice website by the way

    awesome pictures

    me gustaria ser como tu

  • No,,, you don't lol

The photography community con only handle one Juan lol.

JK, thank you for the complement!

  • man how come this has 1770+ views and just 3 coments and 3 or 4 ratings

anyway i've been waching your other vids

    very nice work there

  • Who knows man!

People just like to take and not give.

Me, I owe to give back,,, it's just the right thing to do!

    Thank you.
