So is that for the Surfliner train or the long-haul trains, or both? I'm wondering because up here in Oakland our yard is seperate from Oakland-Jack London (starting point for Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains) and Emeryville (starting point for the California Zephyr) and our crews board in the yard.
When it comes to the train crew (conductors and engineers) do you know if they board and deboard the train IN THE YARD or AT THE STATION in Los Angeles?
why didnt they just bring out the f40s? that would have been epic to see them in use atleast one more time. after all that engine is one of the pioneers of amtrak
Should have been in the Phase III scheme that the P42s were delivered in-the black looks kinda ugly. Nice catch with the PHIV P32-8WH! I thought they were all in PHV!
Wow, some beautiful shots here!! The Sunset runs just north of me (in Texas) but did not know 145 was going to head west on #1. Considering it hit a pickup (San Antonio) at almost 60mph and sliced the truck almost in half (it went around a gate) it survived with extremely little damage!! So happy to see this-- fantastic-- btw, I would have enjoyed every single minute of the 5 minutes without editing, LoL!! Great, great job on this video!
One more comment and then I am done. I gotta say this is about the best and most topical P42 Amtrak video I have seen on u-tube. Keep up the good work, and how about go get 817 for us?
Yes, thanks for the pretty picttures. GE built 44 P40's for Amtrak and 207 P42's. The 13 "W" resto engines returned to service in 2010 and the last two are making checkout runs now in February. Three P40s and two P42's have been scrapped, with another P42 questionable at this time. Fifteen more run-out P40's are stored, and the rest of them were sold or leased. Of the P42's seven have burned up lately due to bad fuel system parts. About 175 remain available for use on any given day.
Hasn't left LAX as of mid-morning Monday that I know of. Not on 14 of Monday. Maybe Chief of Tuesday or layover for #2 of Wednesday? Anybody know? Meantime #822 was out yesterday for a quick run to Chicago and back, that's the second of the 6 special paint jobs. 156 is still being worked on, and 66 came in for paint (so "they" say over the weekend).
That engine won't ever go out on the chief until they put an ATS inductor shoe on the lead truck, engineer's side. Last i checked, It didn't have one.
Amazing video, if you didn't know what to look for you wouldn't be able to tell it hit something. The last shot at the end with trains #14, #2, and #1 lined up was amazing! Do you have a picture? lol. Great work man! Hey, let me know if they do put 145 on train 2. I'd appreciate it :)
@xXDJIndeedXx Thanks! Yes, If I see it, I'll let you know but I think it go with #4 since #2 wont leave here until WED. I posted my photo of this at west coast rail forums and also my flickr(singwith).
Where is the fueling racks and engine facility? I wanted to go see it when I was in LA last summer but couldnt find it.
