lol, the countries falling apart, and everyone thinks its wonderfull that a group of old weirdos waste £4m building an outdated, environment killing peice of crap like this! And that all OK with the powers that be, never mind those 'yobs' of the younger generation, they can all die in the smog produced by our toy... I'd laugh so much if the bloody kettle blew up in front of these wasters, one did in Paraguay a few years ago, and that was meant to be 'superiour british engineering'!
@emett80 I was going to send ole emett80 a personal message but this chap closed his account. but I was going to tell him to get back over here in the states and vote for these liberals.
@bushwacker2008 good on you! The states may make the biggest locos...but the brits make the best (altho its a shame they contracted the Germans to do the boiler)
@emett80 It's a bit rich for a yankee,I presume he is/was to accuse anyone of damaging the enviroment, remember, the USA uses up 25% of the planet's energy. The land of the free, the land of the 2.5 ton Cadillac left with the engine running to keep the aircon going. While in the UK,we're coughing up £1.30 @ litre for our fuel d:- ( Just wait & see the wars that happen when the oil runs out. & as for the kettle that blew up in Paraguay. They have evidently never heard of a bi-annual inspection
Very attractive vid, I liked the emphasis on the spectators.
I also got an ad on YouTube from 'The Bradford Exchange' trying to flog a 'Flying Scotsman Handcrafted Cuckoo Clock'. They claim it's 'official' merchandise, but I do wonder, however it is the most amazing piece of kitsch I've seen in years. If you got £125 to spare why not give it to the Flying Scotsman, or some other preservation appeal. Better than buying a 'Flying Scotsman Cuckoo Clock and then having your friends die laughing!
No, that title will never come, just as long as new engines like this wonderful 21st Century iron horse continue to be built.
I just hope that this wonderful project inspires a full-fledged comeback of steam (which could happen, due to high petroleum prices). Americans would have the best chance of this, since their country is so large, that electric is not cost effective, and diesels are already expensive to operate.
The oil companies can do nothing, because American Railways are run by corporations, not the government. Since oil companies cannot interfere with the business of a seperate company, that means they can do nothing about it.
Union Pacific, in fact, still has a steam engine on their roster, which they never retired (numbered 844).
I wish that were true, but as soon as the High Speed Train Issue was put on the Ballot .Gas /Petro Prices went up $.40 GAL US. in the areas where the train was/is going to run. In areas where the train would not run Gas/Petro prices went down.
Oil companies can't stop them, but they can attack our wallets. Which in turn people would vote with there wallets, Not Common Sense.
Their next project should be to build an exact replica of Thomas the Tank Engine, because apparently (according to wikipedia) all the E2 Class Steam locomotives (the ones Thomas was based on) were all scrapped, and the ones you see on Thomas Days at railway museums are just replicas from other classes of locomotives
Wonderful to see a brand new steam locie! The whistle sounds indentical to the one used in the Harry Potter movies! Small 3-chime, sweet sound! I hope they plan on building more!
This had ex-virgin mk2s

That would be great if they brought Steam Trains back to America. But that will never happen. The oil companies would have a tantrum.
I live in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. We are trying to get a High Speed Thain From Cleveland to Columbus to Cincinnati.
Politicians are fighting like a bunch of school boys.
For a 1st world country, The us has 3rd world politics.

The government doesn't control American Railways, either.
