I mean..theres a famous photo of Thomas Watson, founder of IBM, meeting with Hitler, smiling, having a jolly time..during the time when the Nazis were running around Europe. You know all those tattoos of serial numbers on the jews arms at the concentration camps, those numbers were used by IBM computers, to catalog the deaths of millions. War is big business, and to these industrialists and elitists, it doesnt matter whos the good guy or not, business is business. They set the whole war up!

People dont realize that it was actually American companies like Ford, GM, IBM etc who, pretty much, supplied the entire Nazi war machine! When allied bombers were flying over Germany, they were told not to drop any bombs on the Ford and GM factories, they were American companies, putting out the Panzer tanks! This whole story in the history books about WW2 is just for you, the people, it doesnt really reflect the powers behind what happened. International banks funded all sides of the war! Why?

It was not an "unexplained reason". Hitler had foolishly promised the Japanese ambassador that, should Japan attack the US, that Germany would declare war on the US. Read Shirer's history Nazi Germany

Comments about "what won the war" is to misunderstand the whole episode. Everything was vital, from the man who made the Russian tanks, to the enigma coding machine. Like a house of cards, it is impossible to say which card is more important. Also, The allies could have been so much better if we had leaders who threw all our men into death with no concern for their lives. Indeed, Stalin killed 30 million of his own people out of war circumstances. But we we are not like that. Thank God.

@DaiJonesful so true... not to minimize Russia's sacrifice or anything, but the Soviet leadership lacked accountability. guys like Tukachevsky were purged and Stalin's boys like Budenny were never punished. American GIs knew that if their commanders screwed up, they might be replaced, and the commanders knew if that happened, they'd be replaced but not assassinated or anything too drastic, just disciplined fairly... and so they didn't operate with the fear that Soviet commanders had.

the war with Russia slowed Hitler and cost Germany dearly, but without the USA aiding the British, Germany would have had the breathing room to regroup and finish the war with a decisive victory. Look how the British caved in to the comparatively small Japanese attack - a shameful chapter in our history - ... No, by the time of D-Day the Russians were in Poland. The Germans had been in full retreat for a year. Their ability to win against Russia was gone by the time of winter 41. From that point on it wasnt a question of if but when Germany would lose. Russia made (and had) triple what Germany did throughout the war, even without lend-lease.

what if the stalingrad debacle had been handled properly or the Kursk offensive had retained the element of suprise, they could have possibly repeated their massive encircling masterstroke that they did at Kiev or Kharkov and reached Moscow. you can ask 'what if' about a lot of ww2's scenarios but.. i wouldnt say it was over for Germany until after Kursk

No, they were done long before Kursk. When they lost at Stalingrad and El Alamein at the same time they were properly finished. The Russians were fielding larger armies and outproducing the Germans 5 to 1. That's even without the Brits and the Americans. The Axis had a narrow window to win, and when they didn't , it was all over.

@teslagod2003 If Hitler had listened to his generals he wouldn't have invaded Russia. By 1943 after two huge defeats the Germans were finished. It was just a matter of time. The skies above Europe were increasingly in the hands of the Allies. Blitzkrieg was no longer effective against the Russians who now outgunned and outproduced them (massively). Even the U-Boat campaign would fail in '43. The window for an Axis victory was closed. There was no "fix" for the Germans.

Ford motor company had a B- 29 coming off the assembly line every 63 minutes. The Russians were fighting for their survival and did well. But no one would have won without US military production and entrance in the war.

You've been watching too many movies. Read the history books. The war was FAR from over in 1941. It was the harsh winter and advancing beyond their supply lines that stopped the Germans.....not the Russians. Besides, it it was "over" at the end of '41, why was it not officially over until almost 4 years later....AFTER....the allies created the second front in France and eliminated Italy from the war in 43. Germany straight up against Russia, Germany would have eventually got to Moscow.

The documentary makes it sound like Great Britain declared war on Japan in support of the US but the fact is that British possessions in the far east were attacked as well and, of course, they had to declare war on Japan.

One of the great revolutions of all time was when FDR decided at the start of the war NOT to set production targets for weaponry but to make as many weapons of every kind as America could. I love listening to old FDR speeches! He knew how to get a hold of peoples emotions in a way that differed from the other great speakers of WW2. Hitler, Stalin and Churchill all were brilliant leaders (regardless of their politics). FDR had a little humor in his communications. BTW the last shots of the war were fired by the d*mn Japanese. One of my mother's friends was killed by Japs a couple of weeks after the war ended, but FDR's analogy was still GREAT! F*ck Hitler and Tojo!!

Hitler thought if he showed solidarity with Japan against the US, Japan would do the same for Germany against the USSR, thus creating a second front, making it easier for Germany to cut through Russia. Something like that if I remember that book well.

I don't think so. Hitler viewed war with the US as inevitable (as did the US view it against nazi Germany). By declaring war he could allow his submarines in the Atlantic to attack allied convoys freely, and weaken his western enemies.

Interesting how WW2 could have turned out quite differently if Hitler had not have declared war when he did. The US could have focused completely on Japan, possibly bringing the war there to a fast conclusion and left the UK to deal with Hitler. Even if the US entered the war against Hitler in 42 or later it would have turned out quite differently :) Thanks for posting!
