Why a robot pet over a flesh one? It won't die, doesn't need food, won't have to go to the vet, will never eat your stuff, won't shed, won't leave a puddle or worse on the floor, can be left for long periods without supervision. It won't keep your feet warm but I could see why someone might want one to play with.
