i am pro when playing with Gouken he is very strong if you know how to play with him and counter others attack, it took me some time to be a pro with him, but when beating everyone, it seems worthy.
i play VS ver pro players . and they hate me when i choose him.
my secpned player is Akuma, again if u know how to play with him. no one can beat u. he is too annoying lo0ol ^_^
If you play vs pro players, and use Gouken, and win, then they must be shit, as he's one of the easiest characters to beat in tournaments. No combos, can't link into hadokens. You have to generally keep them at fireball fight, and unexpectedly follow up with your dash punch.
Your Grab into ultra's useless. Your tatsu's basically never used unless you're 1000000% sure it'll hit. You rely on EX Dash hands for your ultra, which is not the easiest to hit.
internet play is just fireball spam =/ almost no combos work.. I sometimes do fine with Zangief since his grabs are absurd, but I mostly use ryu and sagat..

He has extremely powerful moves that have twists that can really turn a fight around, like that two direction hadouken and his Aerial Tatsumaki Seppu Kyaku.
But many of his moves seem to have large gaping openings if they fail.

His fireballs come out slow. And what sup with that hurricane from the ground? That move leave him open all the time. I really thought Gouken was going to be on point for SF4 but oh well.

I think his first round was laid back. Maybe he just wanted to see the moves of Gouken for the video. Either way it was not like it was a tournament. He won though.
The arcade version characters have no ending or it would show only pics but home version are gonna have ending movies and instead of Abel killing guile at the end they are gonna end up as friends.BTW the person who was playing as abel is the sorriest shit on the planet earth possibly on mars as well
street fighter have some character with different style, but capcom prefer always shotokan character...Gouken is a cool character but sincerely i prefer a character with different style, Guy, Karin, Cody(street fighter zero series) were cool, some characters from street fighter ex was cool (Garuda,Hokuto,Shadow Geist)! You also must be Korean and not realise that Judo is Japanese Martial art and not a korean one. WHy would the makers, who are japanese, be biased against Judo? Plus, they put in a Sambo character, which is Russias version of Judo(allmost).

you have to take in mind that this is a flashy variant of martial arts. Well take like this... remember that the whole style this game is somewhat focus is in the karate style why... because the hero of the series is Ryu since the first one and then you got the whole group of the style, just like the story of Dragon ball, with the "turtle style clan" kamehameha Style = Hadoken style.... get the message is pretty much the hero group style.
Plus the protagonist throw fireballs! Not quite karate if u ask me! If karate actually taught how to throw fireballs, id probs throw one at u for that comment! ahhahha

I love street fighter but....com'n there are too many shotokan in this game! Ryu,Ken,Gouki,Sakura and now Gouken and Dan(only for console) and then there is sagat with similar style...We are need characters with different fighting style like gen,karin,cody,guy ecc...

Gouken is the older brother of Gouki. The story goes that they both learned a murderous martial art from their master Goutetsu. Gouki later killed Goutetsu and it was thought that during the time that SF1 happened he killed Gouken as well. Anyway, after Gouki killed Goutetsu, Gouken refined these techniques, taking the killing aspects out and this is what he taught to Ryu and Ken. That's the short version of the story.
Akuma is just the name given to Gouki outside of Japan.

No. Sheng Long was made as an April Fool's prank by EGM (based on a screw up in translation by Capcom USA). Gouken was taken from a SF2 manga and introduced in SFA1 (In Akuma's ending).
While Gouki=Akuma, Sheng Long wasn't created by Capcom, nor has Sheng Long ever been Gouken's American name. Sheng Long's may have inspired Akuma's creation, but not Gouken's.
Yes u r right, but if u read the ending he is refered to as "Seng Long" in the american version of that ending. So basicaly its the same character since the first physycal appearance of him was in that game.
In SFA1, Gouken isn't referred to by name. He's just there in Akuma's ending.
Like I said, Gouken currently has no official American name. Capcom might just keep his name as Gouken. What reason is there to change it? (Gouki became Akuma because of a BS story by Capcom USA about him being possesed by a demon).

actually alpha takes place before streetfighter2 which would mean it still wouldnt make sense for him 2 be alive but who knows maybe there will be some sort of plot twist which will explain it..
SF4 is getting kind of weird now...Capcom promised new characters, so far only 5 brand new ones, 6 if you include Gouken but you cannot play Seth so far...plus what is going on with SSF2THDR? They were supposed to say something after September 5th but they never did, the game has been delayed for more than 10 months now....
Yeah, I read that somewhere that Capcom is going to try and release late November, they said at the latest December, but they really doubt December because the game is almost finished.
It doesn't have to. I'm willing to bet money Capcom will make him playable in the home version like they do with most Street Fighter bosses. Gill was playable in the home version of 3rd Strike when you beat the game with every character, so I'm pretty sure that will be the same method to unlocking Seth.
If anything else, we expected Gouken to be this Shodo-clone that he ends up being like Sean, he uses the style but not in the way we normally think (if anything else, it makes him that much better)

Yawnnn, another karate characters with the same Ryu, Akuma and Ken's moves. Capcom is sure out of ideas or something. common, Where are Teakwondo, Judo or Vovinam characters in the game??? Seriously Capcom

common dude, I just telling the truth. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Guoken have almost the same moves and they r all Karate characters. Street Fighter must hate Korean and TeakWonDo, Vovinam or Judo becuase I never see any TKD, Vovinam or Judo characters in anyo SF games, I wonder y ??? uhmmm

You must have never played the game. They dont do karate, they throw around fucking fireballs. And they all have very different feelings to their fighting thats why ppl that play this game seriously usualy favor one of them over the other.
You also must be Korean and not realise that Judo is Japanese Martial art and not a korean one. WHy would the makers, who are japanese, be biased against Judo? Plus, they put in a Sambo character, which is Russias version of Judo(allmost).

dude, i donno if u get bore from playing a game that has almost charaters look the same outfit, fighting style, specials and combos. I have nothing again the Street Fighter games, just that they should created more different martial arts charaters, instead of more karate guys, such as Guoken, Akuma, Dan, Seam, Sakura, Ryuu and Ken. What about TKW, Vovinam,Judo or Aikido ect.. Don't hate me for stating the fact of SF

you have to take in mind that this is a flashy variant of martial arts. Well take like this... remember that the whole style this game is somewhat focus is in the karate style why... because the hero of the series is Ryu since the first one and then you got the whole group of the style, just like the story of Dragon ball, with the "turtle style clan" kamehameha Style = Hadoken style.... get the message is pretty much the hero group style.

WOW all three masters are in this game on one side we the dark master gouki a.k.a akuma his older brouther and master to ryu and ken gouken and now chun li's master from the alpha series gen is now in the game. I tell you what am looking at a super master grand battle thats going to happen whants this game comes out which students master will traump over the other will have to wait and once the month of february comes around the corner can't wait to fight.

I love street fighter but....com'n there are too many shotokan in this game! Ryu,Ken,Gouki,Sakura and now Gouken and Dan(only for console) and then there is sagat with similar style...We are need characters with different fighting style like gen,karin,cody,guy ecc...

Gouken is the older brother of Gouki. The story goes that they both learned a murderous martial art from their master Goutetsu. Gouki later killed Goutetsu and it was thought that during the time that SF1 happened he killed Gouken as well. Anyway, after Gouki killed Goutetsu, Gouken refined these techniques, taking the killing aspects out and this is what he taught to Ryu and Ken. That's the short version of the story.
Akuma is just the name given to Gouki outside of Japan.

Sheng Long's backstory of being Ryu and Ken's master is used by Gouken. Gouken might as well be Sheng Long. It wouldn't make sense for both to be in.
...Then again, it wouldn't make sense for Sakura to STILL be in a high school sailor uniform but here we are.

man u guys really don't have any idea about what street fighter is, Sheng Long IS Gouken, don't u guys get it, Akuma is Gouki in america same for Sheng Long, american name, original name Gouken, same goes for Vega= M. Bison, M. Bison= Balrog, Balrog= Vega. That goes for Gouki= Akuma, Gouken= Sheng Long, same shit.

No. Sheng Long was made as an April Fool's prank by EGM (based on a screw up in translation by Capcom USA). Gouken was taken from a SF2 manga and introduced in SFA1 (In Akuma's ending).
While Gouki=Akuma, Sheng Long wasn't created by Capcom, nor has Sheng Long ever been Gouken's American name. Sheng Long's may have inspired Akuma's creation, but not Gouken's.

Yes u r right, but if u read the ending he is refered to as "Seng Long" in the american version of that ending. So basicaly its the same character since the first physycal appearance of him was in that game.

In SFA1, Gouken isn't referred to by name. He's just there in Akuma's ending.
Like I said, Gouken currently has no official American name. Capcom might just keep his name as Gouken. What reason is there to change it? (Gouki became Akuma because of a BS story by Capcom USA about him being possesed by a demon).
Also. EGM's second Sheng Long April Fool's joke set him up to be Gouken.

I'm really hoping that high school outfit is just Sakura's alternate. I mean it's cool and all, but she has to be a grown woman by now. Unless Capcom tries to pull the whole "fuck continuity" thing like they did with Yun in SFA3: MAX. Still, as many have said, who plays fighting games for the story?

So that's why Ryu didn't have the Shin Shoryuken as his ultra! Gouken seems very impressive so far, the apparent lack of a regular Shoryuken is quite the difference for a shoto.

SF4 is getting kind of weird now...Capcom promised new characters, so far only 5 brand new ones, 6 if you include Gouken but you cannot play Seth so far...plus what is going on with SSF2THDR? They were supposed to say something after September 5th but they never did, the game has been delayed for more than 10 months now....

It doesn't have to. I'm willing to bet money Capcom will make him playable in the home version like they do with most Street Fighter bosses. Gill was playable in the home version of 3rd Strike when you beat the game with every character, so I'm pretty sure that will be the same method to unlocking Seth.

If anything else, we expected Gouken to be this Shodo-clone that he ends up being like Sean, he uses the style but not in the way we normally think (if anything else, it makes him that much better)
