I think you bought the wrong bulb for the duty. The 4watt led bulb provides only 360 lumen but there's the 12 watt bulb par 38 that provides 1150 lumen, something like a 100 watt incandescent bulb. It also comes in white (day light) and warm light (yellowish). However you can use your 4watt bulb for directional light or task light as you said. Good luck.
