@stuartwwillis Its a DARPA HTV 2 weapon delivery system that the US has been developing. It can hit a target anywhere in the world in an hour. Their have been sightings of this all around the world. It seems that they have been testing it for around 2 years. It travels at 13000 miles an hour. Its some pretty cool technology
nuclear war. the idea behind it: this rocket can travel around the world so quickly that we will blow them up first, even if they pull the trigger first. basically, "our bombs are faster than yours, so don't try anything funny"
This footage is obviously to keep the public quiet about secret technology. A publicity stunt to say the least. Before this the fastest plane was supposedly the SR-71 which travels at a measly mach 3 at most. so they just jumped from mach 3 to mach 22? If only it was that simple lol
@25alo2514m Not really. The space shuttle goes Mach 28+ and this thing should be compared to the shuttle more than the SR71. Like the shuttle the HTV-2 is boosted to these speeds by an attached rocket then glides back to Earth.
The only difference between the two is that the shuttle is blunt-nosed to create a shockwave to protect it from the highest temperatures and slow it down. The HTV-2 has next generation materials allowing it to have a more aerodynamic shape to better maintain velocity.
@25alo2514m No if you make a search you will see various designs for scramjet aircrafts that can reach 6+ mach which is the ultrasonic speed. But truth be told until I see an HTV-2 flying up close, I wont be sure what tthis thing on the video is..
@1Cdog22 "Dropping bombs" is one way of looking at it. Increasing our defense by projecting our strike capabilities throughout the world is another. Tax payer money isn't mandated to feed people or cure cancer. Just a thought...
The reasons that Russia and China don't have this type of technology is because of severe economic distress and China's military is pathetic compared to America's.They don't have the tech. The last "stealth" plane they put out was little more than a conventional jet with a few angled pieces...nowhere near an F-117, etc. It was a joke!
This is a test of a propulsion system. It can be used for a weapons platform, but it is also to be used for ultra fast transportation for troops and materials.
@theSillyOlBear the only propulsion system used on HTV-2, besides an atitude ajust system, was the Minotar IV that launched the HTV-2 into the proper atmosphere.

you americans are lucky that you have peopel who know how to protect you. @Icix1 Have you considered most, if not all aerospace systems go through teething problems in the development phase? Also, if this was black budget tax money or a PR stunt, why would they release a video of a "broken" system? If it was black budget, you wouldn't know about it... I assume you think this program is wasteful, and I agree from a strategic point of view that we might not need it, but saying China has already won because ONE experimental system went "bonkers"? lol
I can imagine the smell inside the Kremlin when many of their generals had to change the ubderwares. Same in Beijing and in the mullahs' palce in Teheran. We are on top of the World, and we are here to stay.
@BGSorin , I couldn't disagree with you more. DARPA should be canceled if this is the footage they think they need to give the general public. A Hand held camera without mega zoom instead of a reasonable long range camera. I want to see how the HTV-2 Warhead is performing.
This technology, scram jets, were being developed by students at a technical college in Melbourne in the late 90's (rmit) nasa bought the technology, and the students.
This is part of the Aurora project discussed in Wired For War by Peter Singer, strike anywhere on earth within 3 minutes - they will deploy dozens of these with either Rods of Thor or nukes. (Rods of Thor are concrete - which will plow through anything at this speed).
That the Chinese, like the Russians, are not bothering to develop this type of super expensive tech, instead simple cheap counter measures - the Russians developed Sun Burner missiles, the chinese have their own version, which are anti-aircraft carrier missiles - rendering the US projection of force entirely useless in genuine confrontation.
The Chinese and Russians are miles ahead of the US in anti-satellite, and satellite to satellite, weaponry, meaning they can just take these out
Yep, my feeling is it's an old prototype they knew was going to probably fail, so they sent it up there as a PR stunt. There's always an ulterior reason for these kinds of events, and it's certainly not because DARPA wants to keep us informed.
@Icix1 Haha, how can you judge me as an 'imbecile' and uninformed when I stated none of my opinions or beliefs? I send an insult your way and you immediately assume I'm "brainwashed"? How about next time you put a little bit of thought into your comment and you won't sound like a 13 year old.
A little ironic, considering that's essentially what you did to me. How about you take your own advice and rationally ponder your arguments instead of sounding like a moron?
And if you honestly think that my comment was a troll post, you really are brainwashed and idiotic. It's always the most uninformed that regard themselves as in the know.
What exactly was considered trolling again? The part where I mentioned our tax dollars being used in a black budget without our consent, or the part where this is obviously a PR stunt? Everything I said was completely valid and accurate, you're just showing an obvious lack of understand and comprehension on the subject.
that's interesting, but i want to work in quantum physics (antigravity, teleportation, materialization, defense)

so, billions in unaccounted for black budget tax money and we get grainy footage and a hypersonic waste of money that blows up on reentry?
