how can they say "Pirate radio stations are STEALING listeners"?!? The listeners are listening to pirate radio stations because they WANT to and cuz most legal stations just suck!
I think it should be legalized obviously certain restrictions should be put in place, so that people aren't offended that sort of nature, now that legal stations have digital frequencies why not let the pirates operate on the analogue airwaves.

I am a legal ham operator and I have to listen to this stuff when I tune through the HF bands. I dont appreciate it. I feel it can be very annoying at times.bboor11, without the Federal Communications Commission, you would have NONE of your everyday devices wich consists of radios, computer speakers and other computer parts, phones, transcevers, or TVs and thier remotes. think about that before you happen to f*** the FCC.
DONT BE A "PIRATE" ON THE AIRWAVES. IT IS A SERIOUS FEDERAL CRIME!!!!!
I agree but you missed two things. Most of the stations are on commercial FM broadcast band not Short Wave (HF).
The pirate radio history in UK is a long one, since the Gov had a monopoly with their state owned stations (BBC). There where few if any commercial stations allowed. Commercial stations are still highly regulated. It is near impossible to do it legally. However it is illegal and that is not cool with me, but they should allow very low powered stations for communities.
I don't see how pirate radio "damages" anybody...GOOD pirate stations play songs that teens/people actually wan't to hear .... It also doesnt make them switch to other stations because they don't usually plat commericial advertisment..... Im involved in Pirate radio in cork and i must say i love it....I don't see how it 'interfears" with areoplanes etc... if it did then how come legalised stations dont interfer with them !!!
well i think trance music sucks, should play punk music, but this is a really good story, im wanting to start one of my own any ideas, how i can go about doing that??
I agree. Channel 4 News also did a report about Merseyside's Zee 100 in the 1990's. I have heard the audio from it but have not seen the video anywhere.
Im thinking about starting my own pirate-radiostation. In Sweden where i'm from i only here like a hundred different songs in half a year through the public service radio.
They only play major record labeled music.
Nobody I know likes the music but listens to hte station anyway since they have such great shows.
great post. ive been both a listener and dj in manchester for over 20 years. ive worked on over 10 pirate and r.s.l.(legal) stations and for 9 years ive hosted a show on pirate station Buzz fm manchester. we have had the same crap from the dti/ofcom for years, that pirate stations take away listeners from legal stations who pay for their airspace. well is it not simple maths? if they are loosing listeners, then arnt they doin something wrong?...
pirate/community radio listens to the people and gives them what they desire. im sure pirate stations would loose listeners if we played the wrong thing. it's simple. legal stations either need to employ pirate dj's and watch their listening figures, and profits rise or just shut down altogether. it looks like the "listeners on air poll" so to speak has already done the talking. peace snow. check out my homepage for over 100 pirate radio videos/tunes.
if i drove my truck to scotland when my boss told me to go to london wouldnt i get sacked? legal radio is full of middle aged white guys(im a white guy myself), but you gets the picture, who sit on there arses and count figures, not even in touch with their staff never mind the listeners.
Simple. If the commercial stations pulled their heads out of their a s s e s and play what people want to listen to instead of what the record labels tell them to they wouldn't have to worry about losing money. Here in Perth Australia breakfast radio averages 5 songs and hour in between the news, garbage chatter, commercials, traffic updates, whats coming up in the next 30 min news break, more chatter, Seriously what happened to turning on the radio and actually getting music?? Go the Pirates!
Really stop the pirate radios on am and fm stations and use internet radio streaming like listen2myradio for example or somthing better for it

how can government regulate radio? what part did the government play in the creation of the electromagnetic waves that radio is carried on? nothing.
PsychedelicVideos 1 year ago
but seriously, it is almost impossible to get a radio transmitting license because the "real" stations have monopolized the industry...

I assume DTI is the FCC equivalent in the us?
pspheaven 2 years ago
Yes, that's correct. DTI stands for Department Of Trade and Industry. Broadcasting is now regulated by OFCOM (Office for Communications)

That magazine he shows is from the 80s, most of the circuits are out of date. But there are some funny stories in it. My m8 has a copy of it himself.

Nothing really wrong unless it interferes with emergency services, which is rare, Let the people listen to what they want.
