He was such a versatile singer many time you could not make out twho the singer is as he used to modulate the voice according to the needs of the song and voice of the singer. This quality kishoreda possessed due to himself being an actor, director and singer. Rafi lacked all these qualities and always sounded like Rafi ONLY. Never in his life his voice sounded like the actor who he was singing for.

Though you are correct in saying that people unnecessarily inject religion into everything, I feel you are wrong in singling out Pakis or Bangladeshis or Muslims. There are plenty of Pakistanis and muslims that I know who love Kishore Kumar. There is a video on you tube where the Pakistani cricketer Shohaib Akhtar is singing a Kishore Da song. Regardless, religion should not be a basis for liking or disliking an artist. Kishore and Rafi were both great in their own way.

Real musicians, like me who have struggled to express musicality and spent hours and hours practising and doing riyaz, KNOW for a fact that Kishore is the better singer.
Rafi's classical songs can be sung with practice - there are some Kishore songs (most of his songs, actually) that can NEVER be sung by anyone else.
True classical vocalists have a "secret" we hide - and that is our respect and awe for Kishore's natural talent.

Kishore was better than Rafi because kishore da had the knack and dexterirty of singing in the voices of the every actor whom he was doing playback. So you could correctly guess the actor whom he was singing. He had an Excellent voice modulation. The other singer with similar traits is S.P. Balasubramaian.

Take for instance the song "Aake Seedhi Lagi Dil Pe Aise Katariya, O Sawariya.." from HALF TICKET, in which he sings in 2 different voices - MALE (for the villain Pran) and FEMALE (for himself, disguised as a woman). His 'male' voice sounds so much like Pran that even if you haven't seen the movie, you can easily make out that it's picturised on Pran. It's truly amazing!

The thing I liked about Kishore's singing was the many variations of his voice. He could sing with that sensitive feminine-like quality, but also belt out lines in strong masculine manner...and do it all with alot of depth. Versatile, Great singer

Its the responsibility of of the singer to sing melodiously and try to sing or atleat try to match the voice of the actor so that it shoudl sound audience that the actor is singing. Kishoreda, had versatality, voice modualtion. He was such a versatile singer many time you could not make out twho the singer is as he used to modulate the voice according to the needs of the song and voice of the singer. This quality kishoreda possessed due to himself being an actor, director and singer. Rafi lacked all these qualities and always sounded like Rafi ONLY. Never in his life his voice sounded like the actor who he was singing for.

This is not an argument but fact. Kishore da himself asked rafi saab to sing this song for him as he wasn't really as good at classical as the other god "Mohammed Rafi". That's why indians have so many Gods. I'm a die-hard fan of both musical Gods, but none religiously. After all I'm a true Indian. a true polytheist in music only.

KK was past master at diction, and changing and modulating his voice to suit the actor and mood - KK began by being note-perfect on every single KL Saigal song, not an easy task. If that isn't vocal variety, then I don't know what is - tell me after listening to "Mere Mehboob" and "Diye Jalte Hain" or "Kuch to Log" and "Raat Kali", or "Woh Shaam kuch ajeeb thi" and "Rim Jhim gire sawan" that Kishore sounded the same in all recordings LOL!!
In fact it was Rafi who couldn't change his voice.

Though you are correct in saying that people unnecessarily inject religion into everything, I feel you are wrong in singling out Pakis or Bangladeshis or Muslims. There are plenty of Pakistanis and muslims that I know who love Kishore Kumar. There is a video on you tube where the Pakistani cricketer Shohaib Akhtar is singing a Kishore Da song. Regardless, religion should not be a basis for liking or disliking an artist. Kishore and Rafi were both great in their own way.

People who THINK they know good music say Rafi is superior.
Real musicians, like me who have struggled to express musicality and spent hours and hours practising and doing riyaz, KNOW for a fact that Kishore is the better singer.
Rafi's classical songs can be sung with practice - there are some Kishore songs (most of his songs, actually) that can NEVER be sung by anyone else.
True classical vocalists have a "secret" we hide - and that is our respect and awe for Kishore's natural talent.

KISHOREDA is undoubtedly the best singer the world has ever produced. Kishore was better than Rafi because kishore da had the knack and dexterirty of singing in the voices of the every actor whom he was doing playback. So you could correctly guess the actor whom he was singing. He had an Excellent voice modulation. The other singer with similar traits is S.P. Balasubramaian.
Rafi used to sound like Rafi only.

I couldn't agree more with you gvmbhat. Kishore Kumar actually got into the characters on whom the songs were picturised. Take for instance the song "Aake Seedhi Lagi Dil Pe Aise Katariya, O Sawariya.." from HALF TICKET, in which he sings in 2 different voices - MALE (for the villain Pran) and FEMALE (for himself, disguised as a woman). His 'male' voice sounds so much like Pran that even if you haven't seen the movie, you can easily make out that it's picturised on Pran. It's truly amazing!

The thing I liked about Kishore's singing was the many variations of his voice. He could sing with that sensitive feminine-like quality, but also belt out lines in strong masculine manner...and do it all with alot of depth. Versatile, Great singer

This is unbelievable! How could you guys even think of comparing them? They both excelled in their own styles. Its not a question of just the 2 of them, be it Kishore, Rafi, Mukesh or Manna Dey - they were all masters in their respective styles.
Imagine an argument between Chinese cuisine lovers and Italian cuisine lovers. Has anyone ever been able to conclude which is the better of the 2 cuisines? Similarly, its absolutely impossible to judge who's the better singer. So PLEASE cut the crap!!!

Kishore was better than Rafi because kishore da had the knack and adrocity of singing in the voices of the Actor whom he was doing playback. So you could correctly guess the actor whom he was singing. He had an Excellent voice modulation. The other singer with similar traits is S.P. Balasubramaian.
Rafi used to sound like Rafi only.
