  • YOUR A GREAT TIME KEEPER!!!!!

  • @baileydrum That's very kind of you :-)

  • I didn´t thought that it was easy. Mostly drummers are not to be noticed, and sometimes you think "boy, do something more exciting", but the Squonk-Drums give the song the energy it has.

  • The Squonk is a legendary creature reputed to live in the Hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania.

  • Heh... Jouxplan.. funny that you already had people coming back to recompliment you , as I had just looked up your video again to do so.... :)

  • @Jtronique Hey, that is very kind of you.

Please have a look at the work I have been doing with igenesis, recreating some wonderful Genesis tracks on YouTube. Link on my Channel :-)

  • Great! Great!!

  • Great Job!

    Greetings from Berlin

  • @catrileo68 Thank you!

    Greetings from Melton Mowbray, UK.

  • nice cover :)

what kind of skins do you use for the toms??

  • @agentsteell Hmmm. Three years ago, so I am not sure. I think they were Remo Pinstripes, with toms tuned very low.

    Cheers!

  • Hi, as I know it is hard to tune a drumset so sound like a record...

this is gerat to watch. Think this mus be Pinstripe skins...

To play it with Brushes... good idea.

    deep rotos...

    just perfect!

love it and love the accurate way every singel hit is done!

    regards

    stollifa

  • @stollifa Hey, that is all very, very high praise. Thank you my friend!

Yes it is pinstripes, if my memory is correct, with the toms tuned real low. Really appreciate the fact you noticed how hard I tried to catch as many notes as possible! This song is much harder than it might at first appear to be. Mr Collins was just awesome!

  • @jouxplan

Hi again, yes, Collins was a real dirtbag on the drums. We use "dirtbag" in germany if we are really impressed by somone if it is very very hard to try doing the same.

I´m happy that my guesses about your setup and hardwear have been more ore less correct.

Was playing drums many years ago, but only as a hobby and never in a band.

    Keep on drumming jouxplan!

    friendly regards

    stollifa

  • @jouxplan Nice job. Phil's technique doesn't look easy to emulate. I enjoyed this video, as a long time Genesis fan.

  • @gsmark455 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • When its done well, you can appreciate it. Good job.

  • @BrokenArts I thank you.

  • As a long time fan of Phil I really appreciated that. Thanks for sharing man!

  • @MrJPULEO1 It is always humbling when a long time Phil fan says such things - many thanks :-)

  • Neal Morse can play this... that's saying something!

  • great !!!

  • Kudos!!! Been listening to Genesis for over 30 years, and wishing I could emulate Phil's technique for decades... Alas a percussionist I am not, so I had to settle for Tony's stylings (not that it's a bad thing ;) )

    Great Job! ;)

  • @ScooterandSparky I thank you!

  • thats pretty wicked man, well done

  • @Mitheo Ha! Ha! Cheers my friend!

  • What drum kit you rockin? Sonar???

  • @TheNiz73 It is a Pearl Export, dating from 1987. Got it when I was a student, nearly 25 years ago! Original was a 5pc. Gradually added to it, so today it is a 7pc with lots of cymbals :-)

    Cheers!

  • well done !!! love phil collins beat !!

  • @maurolopesmarziano Thank you!

  • Fantastic!!! This is why i love phil's drumming so much. One of my favorite phil tunes with genesis. Your sound sounds alot like the recording!!!

  • I thank you!

  • @TheNiz73 Real nice bro way to kick it!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing that. Very enjoyable and makes all these "sounds" we've heard for all these years seem more accesible, playable, worth a serious try. Seeing is believing my friend! You nailed it!

  • I thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :-)

  • WOW! my fave song and some pristine drumming! Superb! I'm more than impressed! I'd pay to sing with you on this.. I can really belt this song out!

  • That's very kind of you! Glad you like it!

  • Great job. Ever notice that the drums on this track are heavily chorused (sounds like double-tracking)?; you can tell by listening to either side of the stereo channels - one side is not chorused. :)

  • Many thanks!

Certainly I have always thought the drums on this track sound absolutely perrrrrrrfect! Chorused? Interesteing - I had not noticed, no. That explains much.

I have always wanted my drums to sound like Phil's kit on this track - especially those toms!

  • @jouxplan Not a chorus-- it's a really fast delay, 30 ms or so... so it sounds like double-tracking, but it's not. Just BIG, like it was recorded in a big bare room. And seeing as Phil's moves were already big, the effect just makes the drumline explosive. Pair his snare/kick up with that Taurus, and birds fall from the sky :)

jouxplan I've already complimented you on this, but hell yeah I'll say it again-- SPOT ON. You've got it nailed! Good work.

  • @leftystrat76 'and birds fall from the sky'!!!! You are dead right!

Thanks for letting us know how it was done my friend. I bet we ALL wish we could get a drum sound like that (and of course, we all wish we could play like Phil too)!!

I am humbled by your compliments :-)

  • My favorite drums song!

  • Hello Jouxplan, I found your squonk video and was fantastic!!!. The sound of your drums is very similar to the original (really, is a little mixed with the original playback, but sounds very well, i like it). I enjoyed the track. Could you tell me whta is the mark of the drums? Thank you for the studio version.

  • Glad you like it!

Pleased you like the drum sound too :-) Yes, there is a little of the original drum sound in the mix, but it is mostly my drums.

The drums are mostly Pearl Export, dating from 1987. Except the two small toms (8" and 10") which are cheap Stagg drums. Lots more info about the drum kit on my jouxplan website (link on my channel).

  • I really enjoyed watching that.

    Very clean drumming!

Hey try WARPIGS from sabbath or some peice from YES or Return To Forever.

    Again, that was really fun.

  • Thank you - glad you enjoyed it!

I don't really know (in detail, that is) any of the stuff you mentioned - it would take a lot of work!!!

    :-)

  • Great stuff, I watched you do Sweet Home Alabama along with a load if others last night and it was absolutely fantastic. Trust me as a novice drummer it wasn't fun following you on stage! Cheers George

  • Hey! Hello again! Glad you found me on here, and glad you enjoyed the gig last night!

I am still blown away by the comment your singer made about me to the audience - you lot are a great bunch of guys. And no ego's - that's the best part. I thought you all rocked, for my part!

I really enjoyed last night, it was good fun (apart from the PA). Hope to play alongside you guys again at some point - perhaps the next Fristock?!!

    Cheers, Alex

  • No ego from us thats for sure Alex. Like I said we've been playing as a 4piece now for about 7 months. I'm certainly playing catch up with the drumming, but the rest of the band are really cool with it. I mentioned to the organisers we wanted to play again next year and they seemed keen which is good. They need to get the PA right. I watched videos of our performance last night and the drums were very quiet. We kept it up beat though and kept the crowd going which was our main aim. Speak soon.

  • I always loved the roll at 1:35 and you did it perfect! Great job!

  • :-!

  • Holy shit!! Fuck you!!! you are baddass!!! i wanna drum! but that shit looks hard. it's what i tried to do when i was a kid and heard this and started Air Drumming!!!

  • Ha! Ha! Ha! Don't mince your words! Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, this song is not as easy as people might think, initially. Mr Collins layed down a beautiful, perfect, sublime drum track when he played this one.

    :-)

  • sick job man. it aint easy to cover phil collins, one of the best drummers in the world. long live genesis

  • Cheers!

Agree about Phil, and agree about Genesis - they have been a huge influence on my drumming.

  • after watching the entire video man you have nailed this song! i never realized how complicated it is, awesome job, and if anybody says otherwise they are full of shit!!!!

  • Again, I thank you! I have to admit I am very proud of this video - it is one of my most accurate covers on YouTube, and yes, it is surprising how much detail there is, in what at first everyone assumes is the 'easiest' Genesis song to drum along too!

    :-)

  • great playing!! your drums sound like the original song!!

  • Ha! Ha! Music to my ears! I have to say that my tom tuning has ALWAYS been influenced by the drum sound on both this and Dance On A Volcano, from this album. I tune my bigger toms extremely low, in fact so low that often the bolts on the tuning head of my floor tom come undone! I can practically do them back up by hand!

    Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Hi...nice job...my favorite part is from ~4:12 - 4:28 - I love how Banks' sounds throughout that section in the ToTT version, but (for me) his part seems less prominent in the SO version.. - and I also love that isolated repeated double flam around 4:22 - I feel it acts as a great bridge between Bank's (louder) parts

  • Thank you.

Yes, that section 412 to 428 is beautiful and I agree that Banks' work is less prominent on SO which is a shame. The two versions are very different, especially on drums!

As for the double flam at 422 - my friend you have great taste - I have always adored that moment, and find that I can't play it with the power and precision that Phil conveys - especially when you consider the fast bass drum required in the midst of it all! It is perfect drumming for that moment of the song

    :-)

  • You're welcome...I had an idea for you to get that 4:22 PC power: since your sticks are somewhat frayed at the tip, then maybe you could tape the frays even closer to the end to further restrict "give"/flexibility of the frays...otherwise, maybe you could do rimshots (but it looks like you would need to raise your snare a little)...I have other ideas using modified regular sticks if these options don't suit you (or if they don't work)...Squonk 4:22 must be given justice!

  • I meant to make the comment that taping your current sticks would obviously be for playing the whole song - unless you can tape them slightly prior to 4:22 and then quickly untape them (if so, then this might add some very impressive hand acrobatics!)

  • Ha! Ha! Ha! It would be impressive hand acrobatics indeed!

At the time of recording this video, I only had the one set of Flix Sticks, and yes, they were pretty frayed. Having become lucky enough to become an official Flix Endorsee (as a result of my YouTube work!) I now have lots of 'em - which helps a lot! They all come with a rubber 'strap' that goes around the nylon bundle, much like 'tape' would. This can be moved up and down to tighten or loosen the 'frays'.

    :-)

  • I have Hot Rods (similar to the Flix Sticks but with thick wooden frays AND without an adjustable band)...congrats on becoming a Flix Endorsee - it sounds like you're not "a-frayed" to use them (bad American humor)...well, we would not want you to upset the CEO at the Flix Sticks company by using regular sticks (forget the point that you have upset all those regular sticks manufacturers - including the one that, ironically, produces Phil Collins signature sticks!)...go for the rimshot for power

  • I agree, nice pedal work, good thump like J.B.then again phil used big toms too.nice work joux.

  • Hey, thank you!

  • definitely the trippiest instrument in the song is the drums. Sounds so much like John Bonham

  • It's great pleasure to watching you ! Keep up good work and checkout my keyboard playing of some Banks' solos :) regards, Ant

  • I thank you!

I shall have a look at your videos :-)

  • Super...Klasse gespielt....

  • This seems to say -

    'Super... class playing' or similar.

    I thank you!

  • The first fill is done with flams: flam flam

  • Jeeeeeez!

It never ceases to amaze me how picky some people can be!

I have to say though, that I am not sure I agree with you - I better go listen to the original again to check. I presume you mean it should go 'bla ba, bla ba', or do you mean 'bla bla, bla bla'? (where 'bla' is a flam!).

I have always heard it as you see me play it, and always felt the sound of that gorgeous opening fill was more about the sublime recording / tuning of his low toms, rather than the use of say flams.

  • at 37

Bass tic Fllm Flam tic downbeat

  • amazing man... ive been trying to pull off this song now for about 2 weeks and i got halfway through so far!!!

  • Two weeks! Jeez - I have been playing this for about 25 years, so I guess I would be very jealous if you pull it off, at your current rate, in only four weeks!!! Keep at it!

    Many thanks!

    :-)

  • at 38

  • May be thinkin of the secopnds out version which s part of my workout

  • Yeah, I suspect you are talking about the Seconds Out version - that makes more sense to me - I have done a video of the live version too, so I guess if you watched the first minute of that you would be able to see if I am doing it right or not!

    :-)

  • And it aint that easy to sing either!

    A deceptively complex song ...

  • Sing - I guess not!

  • Great drumming! Phil Collins is great, too. Keep up the good work.

  • Well Done!! Phil Collins is probably one of the best drummers of our time (my opinion) if anyone who plays drums, or wants to, they should agree! Very technical stuff, not just keeping rythm for the band. And to think, Phil sings at the same time on many cuts! You are indeed talented, Mr. jouxplan!

  • That's very kind of you!

And I agree about Mr Collins!

  • Very impressive...

  • Hi jouxplan, I am from germany and I was looking for some genesis songs, when I found this, and I really have to say it´s GREAT. After watching this I have wachted your other vids to...great all..But this is my favorit of your vids. RESPECT..I´m not a drum player, so I can´t judge how difficult it is to play. But I think it is. All in all I love it and I hope to see much more from your drumming. Are you a member in a band? If not, I think Genesis can ask for you, If Phil has no time.

  • Hello, and thank you very, very much! Glad you enjoyed all the vids!

Yes, Squonk is much harder than people realise at first. It is a great, great track.

I am not allowed to post any more Genesis on YouTube - see my channel and protest video to know why this is.

Go to my band website for more info on this (see my channel), and look out for my new jouxplan website, coming soon!

    I am in a Blues-Rock band!

    Thank you!!

  • That was awesome! You blew me away, dude!

  • Cheers!

  • Hi ,I just wanted to thank you because I learned

how to drum this song by watching your video.I am also learning abacab

  • Hey, thank you for that! I am really chuffed that you found my video helpful.

I have done Abacab live on here, if you want to see that.

    Best of luck!

  • Oh man I really hope Warner doesn't take your shit away. You were awesome and I'll miss you and everyone else whose shit's gonna get wiped if this goes down. This really is NOT infringement. This is all Prince's fault cuz he's the first asslick to go through youtube accounts and mute his songs. Oh did mention he's an asslick for doing so? Cheers to you good sir. And thank you once again...for everything.

    Mike

  • I REALLY REALLY enjoyed that!

  • Thank you very much indeed! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Yeah!! I had to flick my lighter on the after that!! Great job joupxan- Reminds me of my high school band days attempting our best to play this classic. We didn't quite have the talent then. We sure could have used you! You gave me a blast from the past.

    Thank you sir!!

  • Hey, cheers for that!!!!

    Thank you!

  • Your a fool...period! Carpet crawler

  • I may well be a fool but you still cannot play the drums cheffy :O))

  • Nice job on the cover! This is one of those songs that sounds really simple & straightforward, but in typical Collins fashion has a lot more going on than you think. Until you try & cover his style it's easy to dismiss him. He's an underrated drummer in my opinion, and you've done a great job capturing his style here.

  • Thank you very much!

Absolutely agree - much more involved than it seems at first, this one. One of Collin's finest moments on a drum kit, in my humble view. And I love the way he tuned the toms - wonderful.

  • Man you really fucking rock my friend. Congrats. I wish i had a pretty drumset like that, but mine is falling apart.

  • I want to say something but I can't find the words. But i can imagine what it feels to accomplish somthing like this. Great job. I think you should be playing with Genesis

  • That's a wonderful thing to say - thank you!

Each time I post one of these vids, I feel very proud that I have got them as close as my ability permits. When I look back at some of them, I wonder how on earth I managed it. Cinema Show (Overhead version) is one, as is Supper's Ready.

Having said that, these vids are by no means perfect, and there are people out there who take issue with my interpretations. Still, that's what it is all about I guess!

    :-)

  • Great job! *****

  • fantastic , i have watched your other vids also , this is one of my favorites by Genesis next to Duke of course

  • Thank you! You must have a lot of spare time to have watched the other vids too - hope you liked 'em!

Yep, Squonk and Genesis are pretty damn special. I have a hard time choosing my fav songs, but Supper's Ready live is probably it.

    :-)

  • Really really good. T'was a real delight to watch your play.

  • Hi man, nice symph party, you do it well , sqounk is such a happiness hymn for all of us, the symph Genesis faithfuls.

  • HUGE FAN of 70's era Genesis! I TOTALLY enjoy watching you. VERY HOT!

  • Ha! Ha! Cheers!

Anyway, it's always a relief when huge Genesis fans enjoy what I have done! Glad you like it!

  • NICE!

Goddamn, I love this album. Both the '76 albums are great (Wind and Wuthering, Trick of the Tail).

  • Nice job,but as we all know only phil himself

can play this like phil the master collins.

  • :-)

  • Not bad. But playing like that with all that wasted motion (arm movement)is gonna tire you own. A little more wrist bro. Everything else seems pretty good. Phil Collins can be tricky, but it sounds like you pretty much nailed it.

  • Different folks have different methods of playing... this apparently works for him, and if you see some of his other vidz - he doesn't get tired, even when racing on some very complex pieces. Hey - it worked for Ringo - why can't it work for him? :)

  • True. I've been a session drummer for quite a while and it just seemed like he would get tired after a 1 hour set. Lots of wasted motion. The play is all good. No critique on that.

Check out Dennis Chambers, and see what I mean.

  • I promise I don't get tired after a long set! But I agree about the wasted motion issue.

    :-)

  • Cool. It's all good man. The biggest thing is comfort and stick control IMO. If you start to get fatigued, look at arm position in relation to the body. For example, if arms are away from the body for extended periods or sticks are help too tightly, you can experience the fatigue after a while. From elbow up to shoulder should run parallel to the torso and in fairly tight while in a groove. Not fills. It's your call. That helps me play hours in the studio without much fatigue.

  • Hey, thanks for that!

As for getting tired, those of you who have followed my work on here will know that in my other life I am a bit of a serious racing cyclist - I am pretty fit! Have a look at my Police Synchronicity II vid, or the long Genesis 'Old Medley' vid!

  • Hello! Many thanks - it's always a gas when I get comments from pro drummers!

Yeah, I do have a bit of a weird style, I know. Partly it is because I play with these Flix Sticks on these vids - they don't bounce like wooden sticks and so I tend to have to throw myself at the kit more! Nonetheless, I do tend to move my arms a lot anyway. That said, look at my cover of 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Toto's Rosanna or Sting's Consider Me Gone: there is a bit more wrist!!

    :-)

  • great one bro!!!, i would losen you cymbals thow

  • nice single strokes man!

  • Cheers!

  • Impressive!! I first heard this song on 8-track in 1976. We were moving from Los Angeles to Albuquerque, NM and I was riding in my brother's 1953 Ford F-100 pickup. He played the tape repeatedly, and I loved it. I have "A Trick Of The Tail" by Genesis on LP. I recorded the album on cassette at least 20 years ago, now I want to burn the album on CD, I just have to find a good turntable to connect to my computer. Anyway, excellent drumming, keep up the good work. Later

  • Thank you very much!

Would it not be easier to buy a cd of it?! I know my LP version has long since died, and I have even broken two or three cd versions over the years! I guess I have played Trick of the Tail 200 zillion times as well!!!

  • Great job man!

It's refreshing to hear and watch great drumming

on here. Nice pacing too with Collins, which is hard to do at certain points. Keep it up!

  • Cheers for that!

  • excellent dude!symbal work is hard, and i noticed you only hit the crash(the ugly symbal) once, and it sounded good, you know your tools...p.s. i think phil used a deeper wood snare, tuned loose..cheers!

  • Very kind of you! I guess you must mean my mini china cymbal, over on my far right, which I hit only once. The rest of the cymbals get a decent work out!

Yeah, my snare is shallow, and metal, and tuned as tight as a tight thing!

  • Yup, the drumming is excelent, not just technically good, but you have a nice feel, so to speak...! The one thing I would say, from the point of view of someone who has progressed from performing to recording (not enough though!) is that the snare head could do with a little damping. Have you tried taping an old sock to it just to take a little of the ring out of it?

  • Hey, thank you!

Have not tried the 'sock' technique, no! Lots of people have commented on my snare sound, and you are all quite right! Er, drum tuning is not my strong point!

Will try a little damping :-)

  • An absolutley blinding performance! Gonna show our drummer...get him workin' harder! Excellent!!!

  • Ha! Ha! Ha! Thank you!

I had a similar comment once from a Police tribute band on one of my vids - he said something like 'Man! This is brilliant! Am gonna make our drummer watch this repeatedly. At gun point.'

    :-)

  • Hey Dude-- WAY good work! This kicks ass. I bought "Trick" when it first came out and it's one of my "desert island" CDs-- this song in particular. I've been playing this song on my guitar for 20 years now, and always loved the section that starts from 1:47 here-- the bold marching strut locked in with the Taurus pedals. All the live-Chester versions seem to get a bit away from the fierce groove of the studio read... You've got it nailed, man! Hats off to you for this (and all your other vids).

  • Thank you very much!!!

I agree that the live version is not at all like the studio groove. I love both versions, but for differing reasons I guess. The studio is just superbly clinical on the drums, whilst the Chester live version is typical Chester 'lazy groove' (and I mean that as a good thing) that of itself is still horribly difficult to emulate. I had a lot more difficulty with the live cover!

    Once again, cheers!

  • dude, you really do kick this songs ass

  • Awesome Bro!!!Braaaaavvvvo!! Ive air drummed this tune for years. Youre spot on bro! Incredible talent!!! right down to that little symbal! How long you practice that one?? My favorite song for so long!! Thanx dude! Interesting background too! What neck of the woods you from?? Killer!!!

  • I thank you!

I have played along to this for over 20 years, but for this YouTube vid I spent several hours making sure to get it as close as I was capable of.

The background was my old garden. I have now moved (see one of my newer vids) but still have a nice garden behind the kit.

I'm from Midlands in UK - see my channel for more details about me!

    :-)

  • Very Good my friend !!

  • Man, I just can't stop to watch the vid.

Do you think you need to play better than it?

Why? What is supposed to be wrong?

I'm not a specialist, but, I must say one thing:

You are simply one of the bests. Period.

  • Thank you!

  • Dude...Dude...Dude....Are the neighbors getting pissed off by now?? Do you play in band?? Or should I say, "Do you have a job?"

  • Neighbours seem to be fine, so far. I play in a blues / rock band. I do have a day job too.....

  • Good song and good drumming!

  • Awesome... respect... hands up! Class!

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • Wow, I whish I could do that.

  • Very well done!

To those of you who have any criticisms.....you are generally the ones who have difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time, so keep your neagtivity to yourselves.

  • Cheers for that!

  • Well done jouxplan, although I don't think that Chester Thomson used his bass pedal so much like you!, nevertheless superb video, RESPECT!

  • Hello, and thank you!

I am wondering if you have confused this video with the live version? - Chester plays the live version, and not on this studio version! This one is pure Phil Collins.

So I am not sure which bass drum part you are referring too. I think I got this studio version about right, but certainly my live version is nothing like as accurate.

    :-)

  • dude u rock

  • Wow... 5+ ;)

  • Don't speak english fluently,sorry.(French)

Just want to tell you BRAVO!!!

Sure you played it so many times, since so many years,it's obvious, but it's really a great pleasure to see and hear you .

You have the Collins touch and hope he saw the vid.Bravo Jouxplan.

  • Your English is fine!

    Thank you!

Hope you enjoy my other Genesis vids; and yes, it would be interesting (and scary) to know what Phil thinks of my attempts.

    :-)

  • I must commend you Jouxplan, you are one hell of a drummer. I checked out a bunch of your other vids. Amazing! I've been playing drums for a few years and what you've done here is inspiring. I've been trying to figure out "Squonk" since I started playing. I also enjoyed your other videos, like the ones involving The Police. Genesis and The Police are pretty much my two favourite bands, and Collins and Copeland are two of my favourite drummers. By the way, what are those sticks made out of? Cool!

  • Hey, thanks!

For drummers, it really does not get much better than Genesis and The Police, in my view!

The sticks I use in the vid are 'Flix Sticks'. These ones are fluorescent pink, which make for a prettier vid! You get rock ones (black) and jazz ones (orange). Much better than brushes, much quieter than sticks.

  • nice vid joux, bit of a show of though arent you? lol

  • Show-off? Seems a bit harsh!

    Anyway, ta!

    :-)

  • One of my favorites, and seems all the more brilliant after watching you play it. I've always wished they'd done a proper ending on the studio version-- the jam fades out so quickly. The live ending is nice, but I wonder what could have been, or how much more was actually recorded. Same deal with Man of Our Times on Duke, the ending goes into a double-time groove then just fades. (Not to mention practically every track on Calling All Stations, but I can't say any of them left me wanting more.)

  • It's great to watch someone play this song and then you realise how intricate the drums actually are in this song.

  • ok ive totlly given up on covering squonk now ive tried for at least 5 hours to cover this song but still im making so many mistakes, how did you do it joux?

  • Sounds to me like you are trying too hard! Relax, play something else, go back to it later!

Me? I learned to play this like 20 years ago, so that's probably why I can just about pull it off. Don't stress!

  • Great playing of a difficult-to-play song.

Only thing I don't like is your cymbals. they seem out of tune, if you know what I mean...

Also, I love the garden behind you. It gives a pastoral aura to the scene... especially when your daughter is playing around (not in this video)

  • Thank you.

Not entirely sure I know what you mean, though it is true to say that my cymbals are all a lot smaller than is required to get the authentic Genesis sound. This is 'cos I am also influenced by Stewert Copeland; I love little cymbals, and since I am a Flix sticks user, any crash cymbal of diameter >16" will actually sound like a 40" ride!

I love the garden too, especially for backgrounds to my vids! Thanks!

  • ive been trying to copy phil on this one on drums for 3 straight hours still cant get it perfect believe me this isnt a easy cover

  • jouxplan, you rock! That was great.

  • whos a better drummer stewart copeland or phil collins

  • They have very different styles, and play very different music. Once drummers reach the level of these guys, it becomes a matter of taste. Vanilla and strawberry are both great ice creams, but neither is 'better' than the other - some people prefer vanilla, and some prefer strawberry.

I think Stewart had incredible flair, virtuosity, speed and a unique style. Phil had incredible technical skills and an ability to groove in any time signature and always played exactly the right fill.

  • Pretty damn good, first of all - you really have the feel...but...you don't play with any dynamics - it really needs a much lighter touch during the vocal parts and in a few other transitions. Too many crash cymbals during the chorus, as well, but your timing is really good.

  • Man nice job really excellent, cool

  • Hard to play genesis with a "normal" drumset sound. ;) Good drumming. Now i wanna see you drumming ~in the cage~. I'm interested in the second part. ;)

  • Thank you.

I have already posted a cover of In The Cage. Hope you enjoy it.

    :-)

  • Yep, thanks. Sorry, didn't saw it in the overview. I like your "cage". ;)

  • what kind of set should he have, what if he tuned them better would he be able to duplicate the collins sound

  • I'm impressed! I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time, but you have 4 parts of your body moving in different directions and different beats.
