my guess is that this was unplanned. she rejected the killer's sexual advances and he killed her. then he realized he had no way to get her out of the building. i think the fire alarm was either a way of getting poeple out of the building so the killer could hide the body OR a way for the killer to get out of the building (with hordes of people) without the video cameras catching him.
