According to my Funk & Wagnells, you're mispronouncing the word. It's not "capreecious," but "capricious." Check it out.

I'm English and I'd also say "capricious" instead of "capreecious". So it's not an American thing then?

It's like prestigious, also pronounced the two ways. I think the confusion comes from the sound of the i in the root words: prestige, caprice.
