I grew up as a small child watching this series, and each time I return to watch it I'm struck at just how marvelous a piece of work it is. It has a timeless appeal, and I think I can truly label it as one of the grandest works of art man has created. B5 will always hold a place in my heart, and RIP to Andreas Kutsalas and all the other great actors who are now gone.
In my opnion, Babylon 5 was and it is the greatest Sci-Fi TV serie, I just wanted to more people watched it... When I grow up, I will do a game for Babylon 5 like Star Wars Empire At War and something like the fan-made game The Babylon Project... I will miss Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) and Richard Biggs ( Dr. Steven Franklin), that went beyong the Rim with the Vorlons and Shadows and the Oldest races.
I really wish they'd bring B% back. It was awesome, it was what sci-fi was supposed to be, how we imagined it as kids...spectacular, funny, dark, insightful, and thought provoking for it's political commentary. Those speeches by the late great Andreas will live with me forever. I want to read the book of G'Kar.
Thankyou to everyone involved for giving us 5 seasons of perfect television.
Really niceley done- but at 2:35 it shows Londo shooting while on B5. Which ep is that from, I just can't recall (Yes this is a total geek question, I know)...
I was in the room when this debuted and I remembered the stunned silence as the video ended. I was sitting close enough that I heard either Pat Tallman or Peter Jurasik (can't recall who now) mutter quietly "Wow. I knew the show was good..but seeing it like this really makes me realize HOW good
*Drops Jaw* That was amazing! Thank-you so much for putting this on youtube! Great use of the song and images! I will show this to some of my friends as to get them to watch B-5. You should make more, you did great!
From a long time fan down under well done, gave me goosebumps. I miss the characters like long lost friends. It.s always had me baffled how the trekkies keep managing to revive their series in new and varied ways, and yet B5 seems to be ignored as being far too cerebral. It's just not cricket!
This made me so nostalgic. I've watched the series through 3-4 times, and now I'm absolutely ready to do so again. I try to pimp this show to people all the time, but very few can get past how dated it looks visually. I wish more people would give it a chance, they would thank me! B5 will always be very special to me.
Funnily enough I rather LIKE visuals of B5. The colours, forms, clothing, ships...They have very special "feel". Newer SF leaves me cold compared to how B5 looks. Especially after S1.
Pity people don't give it further chance just because of how it looks. Their loss...
"got a thunderous round of applause from over 3000 fans in the room" and one behind computer MAGNIFICENT one of the best ! i dont actualy like the star wars soundtrack i could imagine this video with beter music and that would really make me cry :D for example the well know requiem fo a dream ;) but still it is one hell of a big peace in the bab5 material
I was there at the third age of SCi Fi , when Babylon 5 blew everything out the water and became the the best TV story arch developed, not even todays show can hold a candle to this masterpiece of American television. America you don't know what you have with JMS and Babylon 5, and I'm a Brit , I know quality when I see it
Indeed,babylon5 certainly did set a new benchmark in the sf genre, especially with it's groundbreaking introduction of serious, intelligent drama and of course a cast that could act to a shakespearian standard. The only other show that has had the courage to follow its lead must be the new series of Battlestar Galactica.
"Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future and it changed us."
I can't tell you in how many levels this quote applies. "Babylon 5" is indeed a milestone in TV history and in my personal idea of entertainment. So many years after its ending, I still call it the absolute best series I have ever watched and watch again and again and again.
Too bad HD quality would be one heck of an expensive project. Especially since they have LOST all the CGI models and animations! In otherwords to get CGI done in HD they would have to design models and animations from scratch looking through original series and any design drawings they might have saved.
With WB unwilling to provide decent budget for NEW material despite there being demand(shown by sales exceeding expectations big time) what's the chance for HD version of OLD material :(
Since you've put it that way : ( Lost the old CGI? Tragic, absolutely. I was really hoping oneday they'd release it on HD, given as you say, the great demand.
As for WB, what kind of business doesn't invest in a proven product?
Yup. They lost them. Which influenced lost tales production as they had to redo them from scratch(one reason why so short battle scene from example. Much of CGI resources went just to recreate station itself!). Plan was to redesign old designs bit by bit through lost tales episodes(so next one would have lots of minbari ships etc for example). This MIGHT have resulted in HD B5 eventually when neccessary designs would have been done(no hints to this, just my speculation) but alas not to be :(
Nope. JMS got pissed off about being forced to deal with substandard budgets he said he won't do anything unless it's feature movie with big budget.
Though after success of channeling movie WB called in and asked just HOW big budget it should be so who knows. First time WB called JMS regarding B5 movie so maybe this time they have finally "got it" but haven't heard any more regarding that.
Thanks for that. I've heard conflicting reports about JMS and features. I've seen him saying he wouldn't do a feature because two of the leading stars were now gone. Sounds like he's either changed his mind or WB have persuaded him to think again. One way or the other I hope so. Do you know the best site to keep a watch on any possible developments?
I usually tell people that B5 won 5 nominations and 2 Awards for "best dramatic presentation". No other show has managed to do that, not even the popular Star Trek TNG.
Thanks John for posting your B-5 vids on You Tube. I linked over from ISN.
Joe (JMS) was proven correct that a "novel" for television could work but it was a tough row to hoe as we all know. Many others have copied his idea of a complex SF story arc but it scares the dren out of the suits because they know most viewers these days can't even read a book let alone follow a decent story on T.V thus the success of shows like "Sleeping with the Stars" or whatever they'll think up next season. ;-)
