I had the privilege of growing up at Luke AFB in the 60's. Used to get goosebumps listening the 104's spool up for take off-the shrieking howl when the throttles were advanced then the double BA-BOOM of the afterburner lighting off. Pretty neat stuff for a teenager to grow up with.
He he, the Witwenmachers. It exactly reminds me of the times back in 1990/91/92 when I was spotting them all the day at Araxos Air Force Base:
A pair of Starfighters passes by in tight formation with that unique howling. Moments later, the whining alters and stops. Dark, black smoke belches out of their engines.... You can't imagine the earth-shaking rumble when they went vertical after that!
Never heard this again.. until now. Thank you, Danielle.
wow freaky! its almost like they are communicating with eachother! like its a baby crying to its mother. i miss them. i love the exhaust. now they are gone i can only experience them on flight sim X :)

I visit 4.Stormo at 20.10.2004 , one Day later they flyout the 104 at Prattica , I see the last Day of regular flying at Grosseto !!
