1)does all the settings on it and programs still work on the new interface?
2) i found on xda developers a wm6 software but it was for the hermes, i have to att/cingular version, not the tmobile , is it the same software so will the wm6 for the hermes work for this phone?
3)what happens if i install the wm6/that interface wrong on the phone, will a hard reset work to fix it?
Thanks for all your help if anyone ansers this, i want a more "finger friendly" interface without bricking my phone
Search XDA Developers on Google. Go to the forum for the phone, and look through the ROMs there. That's how you can change everything, including the home screen.
Is the handset bulky? Does it fit in jeans? And How is the MP3 playback when you are on the Road? I know that i can get a more music Phone but i want a Smartphone with pretty good Music Captivities
It certainly isn't thin, but it's not terrible. The MP3 playback is awesome, especially if you update the ROM. If you get a MicroSD card (I bought a 2GB one for about $15), you can fit hundreds and hundreds of songs on it. It works just like an iPod (if not much better).
Im currently looking to buy a new phone. And I was looking at the tilt. But I honestly do not see a difference between the 8525 and the Tilt. They both look the same and as far as i can tell have the same stuff. you know. anyways, which one is better?
Probably the Tilt, but if I found a great deal on an 8525, I would definitely consider it. The differences are slight, and for the same price, get the Tilt, but like I said, they are very close, and a good deal on an 8525 is still gonna get you a great phone.
Definitely not. Just get one of those cut-out covers and put it over the screen, you'll be fine. That's what I did, and it hasn't been a problem at all.
Sorry, I don't. =( I think there are a few commercial applications that you can buy, but I've never found anything free that actually worked in any meaningful way.
How does the calender work on this phone? I'm interested in a phone that'll efficiently display appointments and what not and I heard there are some phones that can even set the calender as wallpapers.
I had to do a ROM upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 (which is a free download from AT&T...though I don't think they have it anymore). The rest of it is just a theme, which you can find by going to my website (hexydes dot com), searching for "8525", and then follow the links listed below.
I listed everything seen in the video at my website (hexydes dot com), just search "8525" when you get there, there is a detailed list of everything you see in the video.
You have to press a button to change it, unless you slide the keyboard open (in which case it rotates the screen). I mapped the button to my e-mail button on the outside of the phone, because I don't really use it for anything.
When last I checked (a day or two ago), AT&T had a refurb version of the phone on their site for around $130. You'll have to get a refurb, as the new models have been discontinued and replaced with the Tilt.
im getting this fone next week [refurbished] and i was just wondering on what it was like and it looks awsome i didnt no that it had the keybored cuz im getting it off of the att website so thnx u helpt me alot
It weighs maybe as much as a video iPod, possibly slightly less. If you're a girl and use a purse, it won't bother you at all. If you're a guy...maybe, but I keep it in my front pocket, without any trouble at all.
No, but very similar. The technical specs are pretty close, but the Tilt has the obvious physical difference (being able to tilt the screen), as well as a few other odd bits here and there. They are extremely similar, though.
Not as long as you are making sure that you are using wi-fi, and not EDGE/3G. Just use the NoData application that I have linked to on my website (hexydes dot com, search "8525" on the left).
I don't believe that AT&T can disable your data transfer, though they might if you tell them you are going out of the country. Either way, just the NoData application, and you should be fine.
Yeah, I've only heard people saying that they called and said they were "going out of the country", so AT&T blocked data access. So I guess you could do that, but the NoData program works really well. I've been using it for almost five months now, and I've never incurred a data transfer charge.
Quick question how did you get the interface on there for the phone? I'm really interested in using it. Could me message me a link or something. Thanks in advance.
Check my site, hexydes dot com. Just go to the search on the left and type "8525". I put links to just about everything you see in the video, which should get you on your way. =)
Not much, no. The tilt comes with a different interface by default, which actually makes it run a bit slower (though it is a cool interface). I'm sure there are a few other particulars, but in general, they are pretty close.
Great video and info to all of the questions. I was wondering where you got that sexy cover for the phone? I searched amazon and google but all I could find were belt cases.
I posted a link to the company I purchased the case for, just check my website to get the link. hexydes dot com. Just search for 8525 in the search field on the left. It is a hard-rubber type of case, pretty nice. It just snaps on to the phone.
Very good review. I own the same phone, can you tell me where you got the interface and plug-ins? Where they free or did you have to pay. Please let me know thanks!
i got wm6 and installed madaco nodata to my device(not storage card) but it doesnt seem to work. i turn off the wifi but i was still able to log online. the phone still show 3G at the top too. please help...
Still showing 3G at the top (or "E" for EDGE) is normal. It simply is saying you are in an area that supports that technology. However, you should not be able to get online. It works for me (you have to disable both options in NoData), but if it isn't working for you, check the forums at MoDaCo, because they have a lot of good information!
I'm thinking about buying this phone in the next few weeks. I have a few questions about it, could you answer them for me. 1) when you upgraded to Windows Mobile 6, was the upgrade free? 2)I totally agree with you on the edge connection, $20 dollars is just to much, when you are in a wifi zone like your house, can you browse the web for free?
1. Yes, the upgrade is free. AT&T issued a text alert about how to get it from their site, and you can download it from HTC's website directly as well.
2. EDGE connection is a joke. Just get the NoData application from MoDaCo, and disable both options. Then, enable wi-fi, and when you are in a zone where you have access to the wi-fi, you can use just about anything that needs a data connection (Internet, e-mail, chat, MobiTV, etc) via the wi-fi.
ok i dont know much about phones and everything but when u say when you are in a zone with wi-fi do u really have to be in a hotspot to access the internet cuz that would be pointless when ur on the go...
No you don't have to be in a wifi zone to go on the web. You can sign up for a plan from at&t that allows you to go on anywhere there is service, but in a wifi zone the connection is free and alot faster.
You can access the Internet (or other data services) via two means with the 8525.
1. Wi-fi. This is the fastest way you will access the Internet, up to 802.11g speeds. It is also free. The drawback is that you have to be in a wi-fi zone that you have access to, in order to connect.
2. Cellular data service. This is provided via AT&T's cellular network, and you have to pay monthly for this. The speed will range from pathetic (EDGE) to quite fast (3G, which this phone does support).
I don't think it has so much to do with 3G. You simply pay the price for unlimited data (which is, I believe, $39.95 per month), and if you are in the EDGE zone, you get EDGE, and if you are in the 3G zone, you get 3G. The phone just picks the best one available. Also, if you have wi-fi enabled, I believe it picks that first, since it is the fastest.
It's a lot of work, honestly, and many of the menus stay with their Windows Mobile interface. In my opinion, it really isn't worth it (the interface in the video works much better with Windows Mobile). If you really want it, you can find the steps on Google, but it's a lot of work, and it isn't exactly like an iPhone, for sure.
In the settings menu, there is an option to re-map keys on the phone. I simply set my e-mail key to rotate the screen (just an option in there), rather than "launch e-mail program". Easy as pie. =)
No problem. I know there's a lot of reviews already, so I tried to stick to some stuff that I hadn't seen getting a lot of coverage.
Also, to the person that asked if data transfer is free using wi-fi, yes, it is free. There is a program called "MoDaCo NODATA" also that will disable EDGE and GPRS data connections. If you use that, you can make sure that you don't accidentally get charged for data transfer.

Hexydes 4 years ago
how much is the 3G a month
Riku138 4 years ago
I don't think it has so much to do with 3G. You simply pay the price for unlimited data (which is, I believe, $39.95 per month), and if you are in the EDGE zone, you get EDGE, and if you are in the 3G zone, you get 3G. The phone just picks the best one available. Also, if you have wi-fi enabled, I believe it picks that first, since it is the fastest.
Hexydes 4 years ago
the 3g is free, as long as the phone is compatable.
billthekill25 4 years ago
I'm pretty sure you still have to pay a data fee to use non-wifi data transmission (whether that is 3G or EDGE).
Hexydes 4 years ago
I think $39.99 (but I don't have it, and that's why).
Hexydes 4 years ago
Only if you want to use wi-fi. If you want Internet access outside of wi-fi, then you have to get 3G service ($39.99 a month).
